special editions

Special Editions and limited production cars. Those cars usually offer packaged options and interior trims to celebrate special events such as model anniversary, movie release, celebrity signature or co-branding. They usually come up a few month to a year before the car get a more serious facelift

While the rest of the auto world has its eyes set on New York - and Seoul, for that matter - Chrysler took to an event across America to unveil a unique special-edition 300C .

At the eighth annual Spring Festival of LXs, a conceptual model of the 300 SRT was introduced to the public, one that SRT proclaims as having been "conceived and constructed in-house over the course of one month." It also marks the second custom 300 SRT to debut at Spring Fest.

Dressed in a non-metallic "straight shade" paint finish, the 300 SRT Concept appears to look straight out of a modern-day classic magazine. Adding to the appeal of the special-edition model are blacked out details throughout the vehicle, including the window moldings, the mirror caps and taillamps, and most distinct of them all, the new matte-finish Black Vapor Chrome wheel that could potentially be a preview of the next generation of wheel finishes coming out of SRT.

SRT has promised studio photos of the new 300C SRT Concept in the near future. For now, though, these photos from the event will have to make do.

The annual Goodwood Festival of Speed is one of the most eagerly anticipated auto shows in the world. It doesn’t have the usual expo-like feel attached to other auto shows, but it’s appeal is centered on the fact that only the most exclusive of cars are present in the event.

That and the Goodwood Hill Climb.

Ahead of the public opening of the festival this July, the annual preview day was recently held and one exotic, in particular, made quite an impression: the McLaren MP4-12C GT Can-Am Edition.

Courtesy of Shmee150, the MP4-12C CT Can-Am Edition can be seen performing some ridiculous acceleration runs to complement a steady diet of burnouts performed up the event’s famous hill climb road.

One of the most exclusive MP4-12Cs in existence, the 30-strong GT Can-Am Edition is a true spectacle of the British automaker’s renowned engineering.

Seeing it perform runs like this only adds more credence to its power, speed, and overall exclusivity.

The 2014 BMW 6-Series will be heading to dealers soon and BMW has just announced an all-new special edition for folks who happen to think the 2014 650i just won’t be enough car for them. This new model is dubbed the Frozen Brilliant White Edition and you can order it in two trim levels: 650i Convertible or 650i xDrive Convertible.

On the outside, there is plenty to distinguish this new model from the normal 6-Series. The most distinguishing element is its exclusive Frozen Brilliant White Metallic matte paintjob, but the Frozen Black mirror caps, black BMW kidney grilles and 20-inch BMW M Performance light-alloy wheels in a bi-color paint scheme also help set it apart. Contrasting the exterior color perfectly is the black cloth top.

Inside the cabin, this new special edition includes black Nappa leather upholstery trimmed out with Gray Poplar wood. The Frozen Brilliant White Edition also includes the Dynamic Digital Instrument Cluster, which is making its debut in the U.S. Basically, this system changes its look and what it displays to match the Driving Dynamics Control Mode you select.

In addition to these exclusive additions, BMW is also tossing in the M Sport Package, which includes an increase in the top-speed limiter, Shadowline exterior trimming, body-colored front and rear bumpers, and an M Steering wheel. Also added in is the Executive Package, which adds ceramic controls, a heads-up display, ventilated front seats, smartphone integration, soft-close automatic doors and BMW Apps. Lastly, BMW adds the Cold Weather Package standard, which adds in a ski bag and a heated steering wheel. In 2013, these kits combined would cost you a whopping $8,100 and you get them “free.”

Under the hood, there are no changes from the base 650i, so we would expect it to carry the same 4.4-liter V-8 that punches out 445 horsepower and 480 pound-feet of torque. The only difference between this and the base 650i Convertible is that the M Performance package jumps its top speed from 130 mph to 155 mph.

As for pricing, the 650i Frozen Brilliant White Edition will come in at $106,995 and the xDrive model will hit $110,095. Production is set to start in April or May of 2013 and only 100 models will be produced.

Earlier this year, Chrysler and Detroit-born fashion designer John Varvatos collaborated to build a unique, one-off 300S that was eventually auctioned off at the John Varvatos 9th Annual Stuart House Benefit with the proceeds going to benefit The Rape Foundation in support of Stuart House.

We’re saying this because as it turns out, Chrysler and Varvatos’ collaborative endeavors weren’t just limited to a one-off model. That’s because the two have also built a pair of bespoke luxury sedans together based on the 300C . The two models, called the John Varvatos Limited Edition and the John Varvatos Luxury Edition, show what happens when you get two of Detroit’s finest to build a car together.

Given the credibility and respect John Varvatos commands in the fashion industry, these pair of special edition 300C models bearing his name prove that when it comes to perfectly blending his hometown’s blue-collar appeal with the luxury of a car like the 300C, the man has the pulse of the action.

UPDATE 3/25/2013: We are eagerly anticipating the release of the John Varvatos Edition of the 2013 300C and Chrysler has just released an ad teasing its release. The press release also unveiled a rough release date. Find out the release time frame after the jump and you can see the video above.

The annual Moab Easter Safari is upon us and as always, Jeep will be presenting a total of six concepts to show off when the event kicks off this coming March 23-31 in Moab, Utah.

One of the models that Jeep released is the Wrangler "Slim" Edition, a rather adventurous-looking utility vehicle that’s been dressed up in what Jeep describes as the Rock Lobster color exterior — a fancy name for a fancy color.

We don’t know where the "Slim" name plays into the picture, but apparently, Jeep is using a plethora of lightweight components on this Wrangler, highlighted by a special 10th Anniversary Rubicon front bumper to with an extremely lightweight rear bumper. The special-edition Wrangler also comes with lightweight rock rails, a fancy black grille, black hood decals, LED headlights, a Mopar cold-air intake, a locking gas cap, and a set of 17-inch Jeep Performance Parts forged bead-lock wheels wrapped in Rubicon tires.

Meanwhile, the interior of the Wrangler Slim only gets a few choice upgrades, particularly leather seat covers, a hard-top headliner, all-weather slush mats and a CB radio.

Powering the Wrangler Slim is a 3.6-liter V-6 engine that produces a stout 260 horsepower and 237 pound-feet of torque while mated to a five-speed automatic transmission.

UPDATE 04/02/13: Interested to see more of the Jeep Wrangler Slim? Well, Jeep has released more photos of the special edition off-road vehicle in the photo gallery below!

Until Toyota finally decides to offer a more powerful version of its GT86 sports car , the company is teasing us with all kinds of special editions. It’s latest carrot-dangling act, the GT 86 Cup Edition, made its debut today and is touted as a model built to celebrate Toyota’s participation at the VLN Endurance Championship on March 23rd.

The model adds numerous exterior and interior features, which seems par for the course when it comes to these special-edition GT86s. But on top of all the aesthetic goodies, each customer will also get a ticket for a VIP customer event for two at the Nürburgring. Pretty enticing deal, if you ask us.

On the exterior, the new GT86 Cup Edition will offer three special colors: "Dynamic White Pearl", "Furious Black Mica" and "Racing Red", all three of which have been combined with racing stripes and a boot-lid spoiler. Meanwhile, the interior gets a plush Alcantara trim on the steering wheel rim, upper sections of the door, seats and the dashboard, driving up the sports coupe’s luxury appeal. Each unit will also get a brushed aluminum badge showing the car’s serial number. Last but not least, the model will carry a set of 18-inch OZ Ultraleggera racing alloy wheels wrapped in Pirelli P Zero Nero GT tires.

The new GT86 Cup Edition will be limited to only 86 units and will add another €2,860 over the car’s standard price (about $3,700 at the current exchange rates).

The Fiat 500 isn’t exactly what you’d call a sexy car; far from it, actually. Cute, yes, but not sexy…

But even with its rather simplistic design, the 500 is still an attractive car. In fact, it’s attractive enough for Italian design house, Castaga Milano, to build a unique, beach-ready design called the Tender2.

First introduced back in 2008, the 500 Tender2 is now headed to the U.S. and it has a number of new updates to go with the unique set of features it already had.

As the first car Castagna Milano is shipping to the US in almost 60 years, the one-off designed 500 Tender2 is quite a doozy of a compact hatchback. It’s been chopped up and rebuilt to look like a beach comber, complete with a yacht-like wood veneer, champagne cooler, narrow wood decks in place of doors, a pair of touchscreen units and, apparently, a shower.

It also features an electrically operated ladder in the rear and a bespoke luggage set, ensuring that this one-off creation remains as such: a dynamic one-of-a-kind.

A big congratulations to the man, Bert Dewik, who decided to have this 500 built. He reportedly paid quite a pretty penny for it to the tune of $104,000. But for the chance of owning a car nobody will ever have, we’d say that’s a pretty good deal.

Top Gear host and racer extraordinaire, Tanner Foust, is fixing to get a pretty sweet special-edition Ford Focus ST , thanks to its new partnership with Cobb Tuning.

The decision to build a custom-tuned version of the Focus ST Tanner Foust Edition was born from the success of the concept model that Foust first unveiled at the 2012 SEMA Auto Show. Apparently, a lot of people liked it enough that it’s gotten to the point where Cobb Tuning will be sprucing up the already appealing sports hatch.

Cobb says that it’s planning to give the special edition Focus plenty of new carbon-fiber add ons to go with a new custom grille, fancy race graphics, and a wheel and tire program. There will also be plenty of tuning and it will feature a new intercooler, intake, exhaust and suspension components, and most importantly, an ECU calibration that should drive up the Focus ST’s output to somewhere in the vicinity of 300 horsepower.

Expect the custom tuned Focus ST Foust Edition to hit Ford dealerships later this year with pricing and complete specs to be announced a little earlier.
