  Special Editions and limited production cars. Those cars usually offer packaged options and interior trims to celebrate special events such as model anniversary, movie release, celebrity signature or co-branding. They usually come up a few month to a year before the car get a more serious facelift

The 2015 Challenger and 2015 Charger were the main attraction at Dodge ’s New York Auto Show booth, with both vehicles being showcased in brand-new clothes. Unlike the Charger, which received a much more extensive facelift, the updated Challenger arrived with milder body enhancements, but it somehow managed to look more attractive than the former.

I’m tempted to believe this is because the Charger borrowed too many details from the Dart , but I’m also willing to admit that I’m a sucker for the 1971 Challenger, the exact model Dodge looked upon for the 2015 facelift.

Anyway, besides the 1971-inspired fascias and a more modern interior, the revised Challenger also gained a brand-new model, the 392 HEMI Scat Pack Shaker. As the name suggests, the new trim blends features from both the Scat Pack and the Shaker bundles, while making use of the large 6.4-liter HEMI V-8 mill and the Super Track Pak.

In short, it’s a muscle car that will sit at the top of the non-SRT Challenger lineup next year, being aimed at the Mopar gearheads that are in the hunt for classic looks in a 21st century coupe .

It’s come to this for the Jaguar XK . Already scheduled to be discontinued following the 2015 model year, the XK is making one last stand at a major auto show with the debut of the XK Final Fifty Edition at the New York Auto Show . As you can see from its name, this special edition XK is limited to just 50 units, each coming with a variety of upgrades added in to celebrate the departure of Jag’s entry-level model.

Truth be told, the changes are necessarily revolutionary, but they do give this model a little extra something to entice buyers. Included are a smattering of aero components on the exterior, some simple upgrades to the interior and some extra packages that are typically optional on the XKR-S to help boost performance, giving the XK a fitting send off.

What’s more, with the Final Fifty Edition being based on the XKR model, buyers get a 5.0-liter V-8 that nets 510 horsepower and 461 pound-feet of twist. So even if the whole cosmetic and cornering enhancements are underwhelming, the last 50 XKs can still take comfort knowing that its last incarnation has a monster breathing under that XKR-S GT hood.

Maserati is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year and just like pretty much every car brand that celebrates anniversaries these days, the Italian automaker is set to introduce a special-edition GranTurismo MC to commemorate the occasion. The car is called the GranTurismo MC Centennial Edition and as expected, it comes with a bevy of exterior and interior upgrades befitting a model that’s been designated with the important "anniversary model" label.

Give how incredibly sexy the GranTurismo MC already is in its standard guise, it seems like Maserati just found the perfect opportunity to create a limited run of GranTurismo MC models that makes it even more attractive. The GranTurismo MC Centennial Edition is set to become available in the next few months as either a coupe or a convertible model.

If deciding on getting one isn’t hard enough already, you now have to choose between getting a coupe or a drop-top. Then again, there are worse problems to have these days, and being in that situation should be considered a blessing.

Now that Viper production is on temporary halt due to poor sales , it seems that the folks over at Street and Racing Technology (SRT) are spending time developing a new, special edition version of its V-10-powered sports car .

The brand’s newest iteration, which is on display at the New York Auto Show as we speak, brings together two of the meanest SRT Vipers launched throughout the last 12 months. We’re talking about the Viper Anodized Carbon Special Edition and the Corvette ZR1 -killing Viper TA (short for Time Attack).

Suggestively named Anodized Carbon Special Edition TA, the new model takes the coolest features from the aforementioned versions: a unique-looking body and a track-prepped chassis.

As you might already know, the 2014 SRT Viper Anodized Carbon Special Edition features an exclusive grey-like, metallic matte exterior color, satin black exhaust bezels, gloss black badges and a carbon-fiber rear applique. Moving over to the Viper TA, it’s main highlights are a Bilstein Damptronic suspension system tuned for track use, racing stabilizer bars, a carbon-fiber X-brace and high-performance Brembo brakes.

So what happens when you take these machines and build them into one?

As a luxury manufacturer, having an exclusive personalization program is mandatory these days. BMW has the Individual program, Porsche offers new, bold designs via Porsche Exclusive , while Mercedes-Benz will be happy to take your hard-earned to offer you some of its Designo exterior paints and interior leather and trims.

As expected, Audi doesn’t want to fall behind on this front so it stormed the New York Auto Show with a more exclusive take on the 2014 RS7 four-door coupe. Already an aggressive-looking and luxurious vehicle, the said model got a few bells and whistles inside and out and a new name.

Dubbed Dynamic Edition, the fanciest member of the RS7 lineup isn’t just a unique showroom model built to exemplify "some of the personalization options that are possible through Audi’s exclusive program." It will go into production and will hit dealerships this summer, but its price tag might be a turn off for U.S. customers.

Why oh why must Toyota and Scion continuously tease us with fast-looking versions of the GT 86 and FR-S , but never actually release one with any go-fast bits on it? Well, here is yet another example of all show and no go from Toyota, as Scion has unveiled its FR-S Release Series 1.0 in New York, and revealed even more that it couldn’t care less what the masses are asking for.

The only good thing to come from this new version is that it will be limited to just 1,500 units and feature a few useful gadgets among the useless, rice-boy add-on equipment. We’ll start with the good stuff, which includes push-button start, black seats with a "T" pattern, HID headlights and automatic dual climate control. Those are all nice additions, but Toyota Toyota went ahead and riced this bad-boy out with its TRD Quad Tip Exhaust System, lowering springs, aero kit with a rear spoiler and fender garnishes.

Don’t get me wrong, I am all not calling the FR-S Release Series 1.0 ugly by any means, but I take issue with slapping all of that extra weight onto the FR-S and making it look the part of a racer without bumping the actual performance. Sure, the lowering springs may make it more agile — doubtful — but the engine remains the same 200-horsepower, 151-pound-feet unit it’s always had. The only hope that we have is that the TRD exhaust system actually frees up a few ponies, but there is no mention of that.

According to Scion, the FR-S Release Series 1.0 will cost "under $30,000" plus handling and destination charges.

Guess we’ll continue to wait for a performance version of the GT 86/FR-S/BRZ triplets...

Rumors about a 50th anniversary 2015 Ford Mustang coming to the New York Auto Show have been flying around for quite some time now, but the Blue Oval manufacturer remaining hush on the matter. Now the 50th anniversary edition Mustang became reality, as Ford took the wraps off the 2015 Mustang 50 Year Limited Edition ahead of the aforementioned event.

Based on the brand-new 2015 Mustang GT that was unveiled last December around the world, the special edition 50 Years model will see only 1,964 examples — obviously a reference to the Mustang’s first year on the market — and fitted with numerous unique features inside and out.

Production of the 50 Year Limited Edition car will begin in mid-August, and although Ford has yet to announce when customers will be able to order one, we suggest you have them checks ready next month.

But before you start making any plans, let’s have a closer look at the anniversary Mustang and see what it has to offer compared to the regular pony.

Things are getting pretty racy over at Ferrari , as the company has just confirmed plans to build a racetrack-only version of the LaFerrrari hypercar titled the LaFerrari XX and will see big changes with the suspension and aerodynamics setups in the production car.

The breaking news comes way of Antonello Coletta, Ferrari’s head of Sporting Activity Department, at the ongoing Ferrari Racing Days in Sydney, Australia. “Now we are working on the new hypercar for the circuit, the LaFerrari XX,” Coletta admitted to Drive.com. "I hope that the new car will arrive on the circuit in January or February of next year.”

Coletta says Ferrari realizes improving the car’s power will be a difficult challenge as the car already makes an impressive 963 horsepower and 664 pound-feet of torque with its 6.3-liter V-12 engine and two electric motors. Though the power will increase, the biggest changes are said to be within the suspension tuning, tire choice, and aerodynamics.

“It will be completely different the handling, because it’s normal that the handling is different for the circuit and the road, says Coletta. The difference will be the slick tires, the aerodynamics, the electronics, the suspension, the shock absorbers.”

Though the rumors still fly about Ferrari reentering Le Mans , Coletta and the Italian automaker still deny any definite plans. “Now, we stay in F1 … For now Ferrari will not be in Le Mans but we will see, but it is absolutely not sure,” Drive reports Coletta saying. Catching an odd, Le Mans-style, LaFerrari racer testing is only adding fuel to these rumors.

The track-only LaFerrari XX follows in the footsteps already laid by the Enzo -based FXX and 599 XX. The car is expected to launch in 2015 for a price even larger than the production LaFerrari’s $1.8 million asking price.

Right before the 2014 Geneva Motor Show kicked off in March we introduced you to the new Aston Martin V8 Vantage N430 , a special edition model that made the V8 Vantage more appealing with slightly more horsepower and a few extras here and there.

We were a bit disappointed that the British company was mum on details in regard to an U.S. version, but that’s no longer available, as Aston Martin has just announced plans to introduce the said model to its potential North American customers at the New York Auto Show .

The vehicle will be sold under the V8 Vantage GT moniker and, just like the Euro-spec N430, it will be offered in both coupe and roadster body styles. Making things even better, Aston Martin is offering the new special-edition model at a considerably lower price compared to the standard V8 Vantage.

With the 2014 New York Auto Show just around the corner, Subaru is teasing us with a new high-performance model that’s scheduled to debut at the Jacob Javits Convention Center later this week.

The automaker refrained from sharing any kind of details on the new vehicle, but the included photo depicts what appears to be a 2015 WRX STI model fitted with a large rear wing.

Finished in a light shade of blue (looks like French Blue if you ask me), the wing includes a few bare carbon-fiber components and sits atop a trunk that’s also made out of carbon fiber. Other than that, we can notice that the WRX ’s body is painted in gray, which suggests Subaru might reveal some sort of prototype.

Judging by the large wing, this vehicle must be related to motorsports , but it’s specific purpose is not quite clear. My best guess is that the Japanese are developing a new contender for the Global RallyCross Championship.
