  Sports Cars are engineered to go around corners and straight lines as fast as possible. They are usually expensive, dangerous and so much fun that everybody wants one. Owning a sports car is a gratifying experience but it will cost you money and back pain as they are usually expensive to maintain and not very comfortable. But who cares as they look like supermodels at the beach.

There’s been a lot of talk about Porsche ’s purported plans to drop an electric motor into the 911 , but the Germans are doing a wonderful job at keeping all the details under wraps. In fact, Stuttgart is quieter than a Tesla Model S when it comes to 911 hybridization .

Fortunately, and because we’re living in an age dominated by state-of-the-art technology, Porsche’s steps are carefully monitored by high-performance photo lenses and recording devices. The Nurburgring track is packed with spies waiting to snap shots of the latest prototypes and test cars, so it’s only natural for us to hope for an alert paparazzo to blow the 911 hybrid’s cover.

And although we didn’t expect for that to happen anytime soon, it appears Porsche might be testing a hybrid 911 at the German track as we speak. Spotted earlier this month on the Nordschleife, the 911 shown in the video above looks like any other Carrera S you can buy nowadays. However, a device found on the back seat, as well as the high-pitched noise coming out during shifting accelerating, suggest this is no regular 911.

Of course, there’s no guarantee that the electrical equipment inside the sports car isn’t just a telemetry device, but the unusual noises are noticeable and they must mean something. One thing’s for sure though, if the 911 lapping the ’Ring with that gizmo attached to it is indeed a hybrid, development has barely commenced and there’s plenty of footage to follow.

As a quick reminder, we expect the 911 hybrid to carry a turbocharged, 560-horsepower flat-six engine and an electric motor sourced from the 918 Hybrid supercar , a combo that creates more than 700 ponies. And that’s an upsetting figure for both Ferrari and Lamborghini .

The Subaru BRZ has been around since the 2013 model year and to this day, there’s still little evidence that Suby is prepared to make a more powerful version of the sports car . It’s latest special edition model, the BRZ Series.Blue, follows in what has become an increasingly frustrating trend for Subaru (Toyota and Scion , too, for that matter) enthusiasts. The aerodynamic upgrades are there, and the interior even looks real nice. But for all the upgrades the BRZ Series.Blue received, it still carries that same medicore 2.0-liter boxer that produces 200 horsepower and 151 pound-feet of torque. Care to bump that up a little, Subaru?

The likely answer we’ll get is "not as long as people keep buying it," but we’re still holding out hope that Subaru has some serious plans for the BRZ down the road. The rumored BRZ STi is one that we’re clearly holding on to, and we’re not letting that go until Subaru takes the idea to pasture, kills it and brings us its lifeless body.

The rumored output for the BRZ STi is 250 horsepower, which isn’t much, but still something to look forward to. The biggest thing is that we’d likely see that 151 pound-feet of torque climb to closer to the 250 pound-feet mark, giving the BRZ the ability to pull hard out of corners and from the line. But for now, we’re going to have to settle for the STi-badged BRZ Series.Blue. Only 1,000 models are being made so it does have "exclusivity" attached to it.

Take that for what it’s worth.

Ever since Alfa Romeo announced it would bring “something new ” to the 4C with every passing year, we’ve been speculating what the Italian automaker might have up its sleeve. Though it’s pure speculation at this point, our rendering artist has put together a possible direction for a future direction, the 4C Quadrifoglio Verde.

The Quadrifoglio Verde name harks back to Alfa’s long history of performance vehicles dating back to 1923, and this car would be no different. Likely getting a slight bump in power, the coupe gets an even more aggressive body treatment with several new scoops, front and rear fascias, and accent lines.

Its front fascia gets a completely redesigned bumper with larger air intakes near the darkened headlights. Around the side, a lowered body skirt helps bring the 4C’s visual mass lower to the ground. Out back, a new lower bumper sports a new exhaust pipe design while the rear quarter panels have another cooling slot near the round taillights. Topping it all off are the iconic green cloverleaf and grey triangle badges. A new set of 10-spoke grey wheels helps complete the more aggressive look.

While it’s still unclear what Alfa has planned for its future 4C special editions, we suspect they will consist mostly of cosmetic changes, with only slight modifications to the suspension and engine.

The Nissan DeltaWing hit the racing circuit in 2012 as a collaboration between Nissan and DeltaWing Technologies. Since then, the two companies have had a falling out of sorts, leaving the latter to continue developing the car on its own. For 2014, DeltaWing Technologies Inc. has answered questions on what the DeltaWing race car would look like if the company chose to turn into a street-legal, four-passenger car.

Don’t be fooled by how the rendering looks because while it doesn’t fit into conventional styling, the design has a lot of purpose behind it.

According to the company, the street-legal DeltaWing still possesses that unique and innovative shape because of the continued focus on a design that’s light and more fuel efficient. DeltaWing made use of lightweight steel, aluminum, and advanced composite materials to drive home this point. This style that allows the car to be as economical as possible without compromising its performance levels.

The most unique design feature of the DeltaWing is its front end, specifically the narrow track and thinner tires. It’s not what you’d expect for a car these days, but the rationale behind it also played a big part in the decision to put the engine in the back, creating a rear-focused weight imbalance that not only increases the car’s efficiency, but also reduces rolling resistance. The end result is a prototype that should handle remarkably well, with particular importance being placed on its agility and functionality.

DeltaWing Technologies has a simple objective in creating this rendering. It wants to showcase that horsepower isn’t the be-all-end-all of performance. Design, technology, and efficient use of lightweight materials are all equally important elements in formulating a high-performance equation.

But don’t go thinking that the DeltaWing would be slow, as the manufacturer is shooting for a six-second 0-to-60-mph time and a top speed of 130 mph, all while delivering up to 70 mpg. Sure, those aren’t supercar number, but they are enough to compete with today’s smaller sports cars, like the MX-5 Miata and FR-S .

The company also has big plans for the prototype, the most important of which is to find a suitable mass-market automaker that can take what DeltaWing Technologies has created and bring it to the next level as a true street-legal sports car of the future intended for a global audience.

We know Ken Block has sick drifting skills, but we didn’t know he was still as adept at smoking tires even with the lights turned off. The man famous for his Gymkhana videos definitely proved as much in this new commercial from Castrol Edge.

Block was joined by BMW factory driver Augusto Farfus, GP2 driver Adrian Zaugg, and DTM driver Mike Rockenfeller in this commercial. Together, all four drivers were given a unique challenge: drive their respective vehicles in complete darkness with only their headlights to put the company’s newest and strongest oil to the test.

The challenge looks simple enough until you realize how easy it is to get discombobulated by all the lighting effects, particularly the Laser Box that Block found himself in.

But true to their racing pedigrees, the drivers successfully pulled off all the stunts, capped off by Block doing his own drift tricks inside the Box. It’s definitely worth three minutes of your time, if only to see how Mr. Gymkhana himself manages to balance drifting his car while also enjoying that laser lights show.

I’d honestly not given the S5 much thought before this week. Why, when Audi offers up much flashier models like the R8, RS7, and upcoming TT? It wasn’t until I drove the 2014 S5 Coupe that I discovered this hidden gem in Audi’s lineup. It might not be the most powerful version of the coupe, but with 333 supercharged horses under its mile-long hood and a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission sending power to all four wheels, I found myself finding excuses to go for a drive.

It hit me midway through the week that my black-on-black tester with satin chrome accents looks like something Bruce Wayne would drive when not fighting crime in the Batmobile. Its two-door architecture, sleek profile, and menacing color scheme lends itself for the perfect, if not stereotypical, wealthy bachelor’s car. The techno-filled cockpit further solidifies my thoughts as I found myself impressed with the level of refinement in Audi’s MMI infotainment system.

While the S5 might be better suited to a Bruce Wayne kind of lifestyle, it still performed decently enough when the time came to chauffeur the kids around. Yes, a full-sized child seat fits in the back seat. Ingress and egress was made easier by a quick-release lever on the front seatbacks that allowed the chairs to move forward without losing its last position. It afforded just enough room for crawling back to buckle the kiddo.

But a minivan this thing is not. The S5 is more at home on twisty, backcountry roads and making time on the interstate. Its demeanor changes with the driver’s mood – even without changing the Audi Drive Select system. The S5 makes a great grand touring car capable of long-distance travel and short distance track runs.

With Mercedes developing a Coupe version of the new-generation S-Class , we knew that an AMG version was soon to arrive. In the 2015 model year, this becomes a reality, as Mercedes debuts the S63 AMG Coupe ahead of its launch at the New York Auto Show . right around the corner. Today these expectations became a reality, as our spy photographers caught it testing for the first time, wearing the AMG goodies that transform it into a real eye-catcher.

As expected, the S63 AMG Coupe features a design language identical to the 2014 S63 AMG , but taken to a sportier level and with two fewer doors. It gets an AMG front bumper with bigger air intakes to help cool the engine. Around back, a sports exhaust system with quad end pipes hangs out, while a special set of AMG wheels and massive brakes help further qualify this as an AMG-tuned model.

Under the hood, Mercedes uses the same engine as in the sedan version: a 5.5-liter, V-8 biturbo engine that delivers a total of 577 horsepower and 664 pound-feet of torque. Additionally, this model drops about 140 pounds, thanks to the AMG Lightweight Performance strategy.

The McLaren P13 is arriving sooner than we thought. While we already know that McLaren plans to put the P13 up for sale in September 2015, recent details have emerged surrounding the sports car’s official unveiling and price tag. The P13 will debut at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show with a $210,000 price tag.

A report from Edmunds confirmed these new details surrounding the British automaker’s new entry-level sports car . Speaking with McLaren Managing Director Mike Flewitt, the auto site managed to confirm the company’s plans for the P13.

For one, the P13 ’code’ won’t be used as the official production name of the sports car. Also, it will carry a similar size to the McLaren 650S and will have the same mid-engine, two-seat setup within a carbon-fiber body.

But according to Flewitt, the two McLarens will still be completely unique from each other, despite the shared components. "It’s difficult to style mid-engine cars to look different, not least for cooling reasons; side-mounted radiators dictate a lot of style," he explained.

As far as the engine is concerned, the P13 will use the same 3.8-liter, twin-turbo, V-8 engine as the 650S. The only difference is that McLaren will detune the former’s V-8 powertrain to somewhere between 400 to 500 horsepower, creating a 0-to-60-mph sprint time of about four seconds — a second slower than the 650S. Likewise, top speed is about 185 mph for the P13, compared to the 207-mph top speed of the 650S.

The McLaren P13 is expected to compete with the likes of the Ferrari California T , the Audi R8 V10 , and the Porsche 911 Turbo S .

In addition to the news about the P13, Flewitt also talked about another future McLaren: the P15.

Contrary to previous rumors, the P15 will not be the replacement for the P1 . Instead, the supercar, which will cost $500,000 to $600,000, will sit just above the 650S and launch in 2017.

That should still create a wide space between all of McLaren’s models and its flagship supercar — the P1 — which features the very best of McLaren technology to go with an output of 903 horsepower and 1,100 pound-feet of torque and a price of $1.15 million.

Although enthusiasts regard the E-Type as the most iconic and beautiful Jaguars ever built, I think there’s at least one other Jag that can match its distinction. I’m talking about the XKSS, a limited-edition, two-seat roadster based on the D-Type race car.

My reasoning is pretty much simple here. The XKSS has the gorgeous looks of the 1950s Jaguars, the racing heritage of the Le Mans-winning D-Type , and a track-prepped structure coming straight from the company’s motorsport division. Add the fact that Jag built only 16 of these sports cars , and you’ll understand why the XKSS is a coveted and expensive collectible.

The XKSS also benefits from an association with famed American actor Steve McQueen , who owned a British Racing Green-pained example and drove it around Los Angeles for years. Now resting its wheels in the Peterson Automotive Museum, McQueen’s Jag just took a trip to Jay Leno’s garage, the place where the world’s greatest vehicles are taken to be reviewed and showcased.

But unlike other cars that have passed through his garage, the XKSS seems to have mesmerized Leno, as the TV host can’t stop praising the roadster enough throughout the 20-minute episode. Just hit the play button and you’ll find out what we mean.

A high-performance driving school is more than a fun thing to do. It could also save your life. A great example of this is BMW’s Ice Power Training Driving Experience. For European BMW owners, you can spend a day or two flogging slightly modified M3 s around a frozen lake to learn about how to handle a car on less-than-ideal surfaces.

BMW does offer classes for lots of other things like teen drivers, high-performance track driving, and they have an M performance school too. While all those sound amazing, the video that BMW released of its ice school trips all my triggers, and pushes just about every button I have. I highly recommend that any owner of a high-performance vehicle like an M5 or a Porsche 911 take some sort of driving class.
