  Sports Cars are engineered to go around corners and straight lines as fast as possible. They are usually expensive, dangerous and so much fun that everybody wants one. Owning a sports car is a gratifying experience but it will cost you money and back pain as they are usually expensive to maintain and not very comfortable. But who cares as they look like supermodels at the beach.

In the world of supercar -powerful wagons, there are very few names. Machines like the now-ancient Volvo 850R have given way to the Cadillac CTS-V Wagon , Audi RS6 and the Mercedes E63 AMG, but that still only represents three models out of the hundreds of cars available worldwide.

It now seems that there will be four insane wagons vying for your cash now, as Jaguar has just officially announced the XFR-S Sportsbrake.

The behatched version of the XFR-S uses the same supercharged 5.0-liter V8 that is tuned to the sweet sound of 543 horsepower and 502 pound-feet of torque. That means the 60 mph mark blows by in 4.6 seconds and the top speed rings in at 186 mph.

There is a dark cloud to this silver lining though. Just like the Sportbrakes that have come before, this Jag is not for U.S. consumption. Even if I won’t see them on US roads, I still praise Jaguar for putting their biggest engine into a wagon to begin with.

When you’re browsing through the Chevrolet lineup for a high-performance vehicle, the SS is likely to get overlooked in favor of the Corvette , the Camaro , and maybe even the Sonic RS .

While those models deserve to be mentioned (the Sonic RS to a lesser extent), the hidden performance jewel of the Chevy lineup is the car with the shortest name: the SS .

The Smoking Tire took a Chevrolet SS for a test drive and you immediately know that the SS impressed the heck out of them. It’s not so much that the car itself used to be just a trim level instead of an actual model, or that Chevrolet doesn’t go out of its way to promote the same way it does the more popular models.

The true characteristic of the SS is its performance, it being given a massive 6.2-liter V-8 that produces an impressive 415 horsepower and 415 pound-feet of torque, good enough to hit 60 mph in under five seconds to go with a top speed of around 165 mph.

It’s not going to be as eye-catching as the Corvette or as angry and loud as the Camaro, but for all its worth, the Chevrolet SS gives you a sedan that hits all the right spots, even if it means doing so in the shadows.


We’re quite aware that the Geneva Motor Show is going to be a busy time in the industry. With so many debuts that are scheduled during the show, it’s easy to see a lot of models get lost in the shuffle.

That’s the nature of an event like Geneva, but one car we know is going to get its well-deserved shine is the Renault Clio RS Monaco GP.

The special edition model is going to make its debut in Geneva and while we do admire the look of the Clio RS’ standard guise, we’re a little disappointed that the Clio RS Monaco GP didn’t carry a little more modifications to it.

From what this single photo of the Clio RS Monaco GP is showing us, the car is sporting an exclusive White Frost Pearl exterior paint finish with some nice glossy touches on the front grille, mirror casings, window surrounds and the lower section of the front bumper. Those are some pretty slick details and further highlighted by a new set of 18-inch five-spoke alloys.

No interior photos have been released, but word has it that the Clip RS Monaco GP will be sporting a white dashboard and door panels to go with Renault’s RS Monitor that lets drivers record lap times and carry other performance data.

Power comes by way of a 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces 200 horsepower and 177 pound-feet of torque. Taken into consideration the Clip RS Monaco GP can sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 6.7 seconds to go with a top speed of 143 mph.

The Ford Focus RS is one of the most impressive sports hatchback in the European market. And if you were impressed by the current generation, wait until Ford unveils the new generation Focus RS in 2015. According to the British magazine TopGear, the soon-to-be-launched Focus RS is fixing to go down as the most impressive RS ever, delivering a total output of 320 horsepower — a 20-horsepower increase over the current 300-horsepower model.

The current Focus RS is powered by a 2.5-liter five-cylinder, but for the next generation Ford will replace it with a new 2.3-liter four, with turbo, direct injection and balance shafts. Incidentally, this is the same engine that will be used for the Mustang starting in 2014, although for the RS, it will be updated to deliver more power.

The next RS will also be equipped with a RevoKnuckle front suspension and big brakes, but most importantly it will be a five-door model and not a three-door version like the one currently in the market. About the only potential downside is that Ford will not offer a 4WD system because this will add too much weight for an RS.

Updated 02/24/2014: Swedish magazine Auto Motor Sport reports that the new generation Focus RS will be powered by an updated version of the new 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine used in the Mustang, with the output increased to about 330 horsepower - which represents a 30 horsepower increase over the previous generation.

Alfa Romeo 4C

If you are in the need of some good news this Monday, I have a doozy for you. According to the Detroit News, the new mid-engined Alfa Romeo 4C will be on sale here in the United States this June. That means that a new carbon-fiber, Italian sports car will be on sale in just about three months. I fear I may be drooling a bit.

The original plan for mass dealer allotment has been altered, and the first batch of cars will only be making it to a select group of dealers. Official word is that the actual dealerships have not been selected yet.

When the dealerships are finalized, and the keys make it into customer hands, there will be plenty of carbon-fiber Italians blasting to 60 mph in under five seconds everywhere. It will be beautiful.

Alfa Romeos were supposed to be running rampant around American streets by this time, but there have been an uncountable number of delays. It seems that the time is finally arrived, and the Alfas have landed.

Audi RS4 Avant

Europe’s stringent emission laws have forced some shuffling deep within some of the continent’s biggest automakers, a lot of whom have had to make sacrifices on killing off their eight-cylinder engines in favor of settling for the six-cylinder variety. BMW and Mercedes are two such companies that have already taken to downgrading the powertrain for their performance vehicles and now, it appears that Audi is following suit.

Word from Car and Driver seems to indicate that the German company will be using turbocharged V-6 engines on its RS-branded lines, including the RS4 . No longer will the company’s sports line hitting production V-8, instead the focus will now center on those turbo V-6s, smaller in displacement but no less powerful once you add those turbochargers into the mix.

That’s looking like Audi’s plan for the RS4, which really is as much a return to its previous form than it is a downgrade of sorts. After all, as recent as 2001, the RS4 Avant packed a 2.7-liter, twin-turbo V-6 under its hood, so it’s not like Quattro GmbH is venturing into unchartered territory when it comes to marrying the two sides together.

The important thing for the RS4 is to not cheapen its value relative to the new BMW M4 and the redesigned M3 . It wouldn’t look too good for Audi if it cut power from its prized sports wagon, so you can still expect the vehicle to generate more than 400 horsepower.

Anything less would spell trouble for Audi given that its predecessor already had 450 ponies and other manufacturers have seemingly integrated those turbocharged V-6s into producing stout levels of output.

Only time will tell what Audi has in store for the RS4, but if those twin-turbo V-6s carry their weight, nobody’s going to be crying a river over the loss of those V-8s.

The Scion iQ continues to be a part of our lives, even if it still hasn’t changed much since we first saw it.

But give the microcar some credit; it knows its identity and doesn’t shy away from it. It doesn’t promote itself as a road-wrecking beast nor has it ever puffed its chest and proclaimed itself to be a pocket rocket.

The Scion iQ is a microcar that’s ideally used as a fuel efficient ride in the city. Sometimes, you can even take it out on highways if you’re driving by yourself. But anything more strenuous than that and you’re already stretching the iQ’s capabilities.

All that being said and you can’t deny that there’s still that underlying appeal about this compact microcar, something that could be partly attributed to its looks (even if its overdue for a nip and tuck), and its unabashed identity because in the end, what you see is what you get with the iQ.

The 2008 Dodge Viper ACR may be long-in-the-tooth compared to some of the more modern sports cars around, including the SRT Viper, but that doesn’t mean the old-timer has lost any of its magic.

As this video clearly shows, the 2008 Viper ACR still has some bite left in it on the drag strip, chalking an impressive quarter-mile time of just a little over 11 seconds. 11 seconds for a car that’s seen at least six calendar flips? Well done, sir!

A lot of cars on the road today still can’t boast of breaking that number, but even at six years old, the 2008 Viper is far from an old-timer, just a sports car that knows how to get up and blast along a strip like only it can.

It’s a nice video to watch just so we’re all reminded how fast and powerful the Viper ACR was and apparently, continues to be.

BMW 4 Series Coupe

Every year, hundreds of motoring journalists from all over the world descend upon New York City for the New York International Auto Show . Among the new car reveals, fancy parties and exciting concepts, the New York Auto Show also plays host to the World Car of the Year Awards.

This prestigious award is handed out by a collection of experienced automotive journalists from around the world. Some of this year’s jurors include writers from countries like Japan, Russia, South Africa, China, Australia and more. Overall there are nearly 70 jurors in total.

Some of the previous year’s winners include the Mk VII Volkswagen Golf and the Nissan Leaf .

Of all the cars that were eligible for this year’s award, twelve have been selected as finalists. We have brought together all twelve of the final candidates for you here, and we also included a little bit information about each one.

Like Ron Burgundy, high-performance cars are kind of a big deal around here. Anytime something new comes out, it causes quite a stir. So you can imagine the excitement built up over the new offerings from BMW and Lexus . Both companies have been hard at work building track-ready beasts like the M3 /M4 duo and RC F ready to take on the clock, the instrumented testing, and each other as they duke it out for a spot on your dream driveway.

While neither the M4 Coupe nor the RC F has been driven by anyone outside their respective manufactures, the comparisons have already begun. And that’s what we’re doing here. A detailed look into their numbers, estimated performance stats, and brand history to see which car is likely to find itself on top once the real-world comparison tests happen.

Until time narrows towards the cars’ launches this summer, guessing is all we can do. However, we can make educated guesses based on the criteria above. We will also take a close look at each car’s interior and exterior design, usability, and pricing. Follow along as we dive deep into the numbers to dissect which car will emerge as king.
