  Sports Cars are engineered to go around corners and straight lines as fast as possible. They are usually expensive, dangerous and so much fun that everybody wants one. Owning a sports car is a gratifying experience but it will cost you money and back pain as they are usually expensive to maintain and not very comfortable. But who cares as they look like supermodels at the beach.

There are few cars that are as important to the world stage, and the development of the American sports car than the Chevrolet Corvette . Of the thousands of people who have worked to create this iconic nameplate, arguably none have been more important than Zora Arkus-Duntov. With the news that Chevrolet has just trademarked the name “Zora,” my mind has been running away with what this may mean.

Is there going to be a special-edition Corvette? Is this going to be an entirely new model line? Is Chevrolet just trying to give me an aneurysm by making my mind run wild with anticipation?

Whatever the reason, I have compiled a collection of what I think it could mean. From the likely candidate like name protection, to the outlandish like an entirely new lineup of cars, there is lots for you to see and think about. When you get finished, make sure to hit the comments and let me know what you guys think.

Forget what they say, these are the glory days of muscle. Sure, carburetors and glass packs are out, but direct fuel injection, variable-flow exhaust pipes, and computers have revolutionized the way modern street and track fighters do battle. We’ve pitted three of the most purpose-built machines together to see not only which car would win on the track, but which car would be the easiest to live with on a daily basis.

The competitors all hail from the U.S. of A. and sport snarling engines making huge amounts of power, all sent to the rear wheels though a manual transmission. They’re brash and unapologetic, unforgivably fast, and diabolically cool. Though they’ve all got the performance creds, do they have what it takes to impress the missus enough for a purchase to occur?

Our three contenders are the SRT (now back to Dodge) Viper, the Chevrolet Corvette , and the Chevrolet Camaro Z/28.

In order for this to be a fair fight, we’ve got to price these cars correctly. Starting with the Viper, its base MSRP is comes in at $102,485 — well over that of the Vette and Z/28 — but considering the hard time Dodge has had selling the sultry snake, there are dealer incentives to be had. According to a few price-checking websites, a 2014 base Viper can be had in the mid $90,000 range.

The Camaro Z/28, on the other hand, starts out at $73,300 — but that’s bare-bones stock without air conditioning. Another $1,150 makes the car livable in the summertime. Its total cost comes to $76,150 after destination and the gas-guzzler tax.

The Vette represents the bargain of the bunch, coming in at $70,985 in its top-line, 3LT trim fitted with the Z51 Performance Package, Magnetic Ride, Performance exhaust, and Competition Sport seats. It may be the highest equipped here, but will its least-powerful engine be able to keep up?

Time for some juicy prototype supercar footage and speculation. The cool kids at TouriClips have scored some new film of the new Audi R8 blasting around the Nurburgring . Based on the sound of the engine, this appears to be a V-10-powered car. There are some weird things happening though. At certain points, there appears to be what sounds like the whistle of a turbocharger.

This is crazy for many reasons, not the least of which is the idea of a turbocharged V10 production car. For starters, the Lamborghini Huracan uses a sister engine, and I don’t see the Volkswagen bosses letting the Audi outpace the Lamborghini .

Otherwise, the video is full of what we traditionally expect. Plenty of speed, hard cornering and engine noise. Take a look at the video and keep your ears open. It’s been less than a year since the redesigned C7 Corvette reached its first customers, and the latest iteration of the sports car is already available in a couple of special-edition trims. The extremely cool, 650-horsepower Z06 is already on its way and the new-generation Corvette is shaping up pretty nicely for the 2015 model year.

But expect more to follow, even if Corvette chief engineer Tadge Juechter hinted that a new-generation ZR1 is not very likely. With that out of the way, we might be looking at new special-edition models as early as 2016, maybe even a Grand Sport revival. It’s a long shot right now, but we have reason to believe Chevy is pondering a back-to-the-roots "Zora" Edition to celebrate famed engineer Zora Arkus-Duntov.

What makes us think about a tribute car to the man known as the "Father of the Corvette" is a trademark request for the "Zora" name General Motors filed with the United States Patent Trademark Office. The application is currently filed under the category of "Vehicles and Products for locomotion by land, air of water" and strongly suggests its automotive-related purpose. And since Arkus-Duntov’s career is strongly related to dropping Chevy’s legendary small-block V-8 into the second-generation Corvette , we can’t think of anything else but a special edition C7 Vette with a "Zora" badge on its fenders.

When the third-generation Toyota Supra made its debut, it came with a lot of firsts for the model. The most important was Toyota’s decision to finally develop the Supra as its own stand-alone sports car , free from any tie-ups between the Celica . It was a risk that Toyota took because the Supra had become so successful that it finally needed to stand on its own four wheels and shine. In addition to that, the third generation was also the first time that Supra didn’t come in the full-on fastback look that the first two generations did. While still retaining some of the basic design, the third-gen Supra’s length was cut by 1.6 inches but was wider by an inch, making for a stouter appearance than its elongated predecessors.

An oft-overlooked fact about the third-generation Supra is that Toyota initially slated it for release in the early 1986 model year, but production delays pushed it back to May 1986. This meant that there were actually two wholly different Supras available in the same model year, so the MK III Supra used the 1986.5 model year designation for clarity.

It was with the third-generation model that the world finally started to recognize the Supra was one of Toyota’s best works. The version lasted for a little over five years, quickly becoming one of the most sought-after Japanese sports cars in the market at that time.

You might not know this, but life is hard for Ferrari owners. Not only is there the constant fear that a fire is going to break out behind your head at any given time, but since any millionaire may as well be able to buy one, there’s always the fear that you could show up to the next yacht party and have to park your 458 Italia next to someone else’s 458 Italia that looks exactly the same. Can you imagine how awful that would be? It could possibly be even more embarrassing than being seen wearing the same Hermes tie as another guy in the boardroom.

Luckily, for people with just that particular set of problems, there are companies out there that dare to do what few would ever dream of attempting and offer products to personalize or "refine" your supercar more extensively than you could from the factory. DMC Luxury is one such company, and their latest is the 2014 Ferrari 458 Italia "MCC Edition." If you have a Ferrari in need of a more visually unique look but don’t want to go all out, this may be the package for you.

The Ferrari California T solved a lot of "image issues" its predecessor, the California , had. The original California was wrongfully labelled as a "chick Ferrari ." But the California T doesn’t have any problems of that sort to deal with. In its own way, the new entry-level Ferrari has crafted an identity of its own, thanks in large part to becoming the first turbocharged Ferrari to hit the scene since the iconic Ferrari F40 .

A shift towards building more fuel-efficient cars led Ferrari to this turbocharged road. Not that any of us are complaining because the California T embodies everything a Ferrari should stand for.

It looks incredible. It’s got incredible power to the tune of 560 horsepower and 556 pound-feet of torque, to go with a 0-to-60-mph sprint time of just 3.6 seconds and a top speed of 196 mph. Those are true supercar figures right there.

But most of all, as Autocar’s Matt Prior tells us, it has the same fuel efficiency numbers as a Vauxhall Insignia VXR .

At any other time, comparing a Ferrari to a Vauxhall is tantamount to high treason. But that’s not the case when you’re talking about fuel efficiency because the higher fuel returns the California T is compared to, the more incredible it becomes.

The fact that the upcoming Audi RS3 , due in 2015, is getting in shape at the Nurburgring track is not surprising. However, the video you’re about to watch suggests Audi isn’t ready to give up on its 2.5-liter TFSI engine just yet.

You see, last time the RS3 Sportback was caught stretching its legs in Germany our spy photographers noted the car no longer sounded like one that’s powered by a five-cylinder mill. The scoop only added to the many rumors claiming Audi is downsizing to a turbocharged, 2.0-liter four-banger, but this new video suggests otherwise.

Judging by the notes coming out of that dual-exhaust system, the fact that this mule carries a five-cylinder engine under the hood is undeniable, but what are we up against here? Is this mule using an older powertrain to run some chassis and suspension tests or is the new RS3 coming with an updated 2.5-liter TFSI?

Well, there are a few scenarios that make sense for the five-pot to remain on offer. Maybe the Germans managed to squeeze a bit more power out of it while making it more fuel efficient, or we could be looking at less horsepower aided by a lighter RS3. Either way, with the mill bundled with a six-speed S Tronic gearbox and Audi’s brilliant quattro all-wheel drive, the RS3 is bound to make an impression no matter how many cylinders pump under the hood.

In 2012, ATS introduced the Sport 1000 , and for 2014 ATS is back with a revised version of the model. The company dropped the "1000" from the name, but for the most part, the new ATS Sport is still what it was always meant to be.

ATS did make a handful of changes, highlighted by claims that the new model comes with 100 new upgrades that were added to improve the car’s aerodynamic and performance capabilities. That’s nice to hear for a model that exists specifically as an entry-level race car .

At the end of the day, the ATS Sport checks off a lot of the requirements needed in a race car. It’s not the most powerful race car that’s ever built but that’s not the ATS’ objective here.

The company built the ATS Sport for a specific purpose, and that is for racing. Give the ATS Sport a chance and you might be pleasantly surprised with it.

There was a time when Mopars hit the drag strips with HEMI engines under the hood and Chevy Bel Airs did burnouts using stroked 4.6-liter V-8s. Back in the day, no one was crazy enough to swap a HEMI with a Chevy small block or do the other way around.

Well, not anymore. The good ol’ days of racing are long gone and it seems that running a Detroit muscle car fitted with an engine taken from a rival company is no longer a big no-no. And to prove it, we bring you a Pro Mod dragster based on a 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air that has a blown HEMI mounted behind its front wheels.

Although it comes with a big hefty amount of weird attached to it, the dragster makes a case for its strange configuration once it charges toward the finish line. With the rear wheels motivated by that huge, 8.5-liter HEMI, the Bel Air completes the quarter mile in just 6.04 seconds at 237.5 mph. When you’re that fast, you don’t have to explain why your Chevy-badged car hosts a Chrysler-built mill.

There’s no word as to how many ponies are coming out of than blown engine, but judging by the six-second pass we’re probably looking at way over 1,000 horsepower. The vehicle is still in its test phase, so we’re guessing it can run five-second quarter miles too.
