  Sports Cars are engineered to go around corners and straight lines as fast as possible. They are usually expensive, dangerous and so much fun that everybody wants one. Owning a sports car is a gratifying experience but it will cost you money and back pain as they are usually expensive to maintain and not very comfortable. But who cares as they look like supermodels at the beach.

Rumors of a possible BMW two-seat roadster , dubbed the Z2 , have been swirling for some time now. But with BMW launching one new model after another, talks about the Z2 have been relegated to low whispers. But don’t misinterpret inaction for dead action because BMW still has plans for the Z2, as it has released new details that ought to give us a fresh idea on what to expect from the entry-level roadster .

According to Car and Driver, the Z2 will carry a slew of features unique to the Z4 , including the use of a fabric roof that should help reduce the weight of the sports car . That’s an important characteristic to have in light of another new detail that’s pretty disappointing; the Z2 will come standard in front-wheel drive, which won’t generate the kind of performance and agility as an AWD system.

But its not like the Z2 loses its charm with that shortcoming. After all, BMW is preparing the car to serve a specific purpose and trying to do too much could impede its true identity as an entry-level sports car . The car will share its platform with the new Mini lineup, which adds more credence to the belief that the Z2 will be built with weight savings in mind. This will allow BMW to offer a versatile package to complement the expected choice of four-cylinder engines.

The company has given no indication on the powertrain it plans to use in the Z2, but we’d be surprised if it doesn’t stick to its plans to use a four banger engine that produces between 160 and 230 horses. We could also see as many as 300 horses and all-wheel drive in the top-of-the-line M-Series model. BMW has some choices to make with regards to the engine lineup, but we’re confident it can cook something up from its modular engine architecture. A lot of options seem in play at this point.

According to the source, we can expect to see the Z2 in late 2016 or late 2017, with prices ranging from $30k in its base format to $50k for the AWD Z2 M.

If this news does not make you believe in a higher being, you should probably not be spending that much time at a website called TopSpeed. Jaguar is bringing an honest-to-god, proper three-pedal manual to the F-Type.

The news was first dropped in an Auto Guide interview at the 2013 Chicago Auto Show , and recently Motor Trend is stating it is confirmed. On top of the news of the transmission choice changes, there is also going to be an AWD version of the F-Type as well.

Considering the tail-happy nature of the F-Type, an AWD variant makes sense for Jaguar to bring in buyers who may be intimidated by its handling characteristics. We have no word yet on which will come first, nor how long it will be until those models will be available.

If I was a betting man, I would say the manual F-Type arrives shortly, in time for next summer, while the AWD version will take some time to properly sort out the performance and handling dynamics Jaguar demands from its smallest car.

Either way, we are getting more models of the the F-Type and that is only a good thing.

The Volkswagen Golf R 400 Concept made its debut at the 2014 Beijing Auto Show and immediately, the hot hatch became one of the most exciting models on display. The positive reception was heard all the way in Germany and in response, VW has confirmed that the Golf R 400 Concept won’t be a concept for very long. Equally important, Volkswagen’s R&D boss Heinz-Jakob Neusser also revealed that the production model will produce more horsepower than the "400" in its name will alludes to.

All this should ring music to the ears of those pining to see a production version of the Golf R 400 Concept. Once its built, the Golf R 400 will end up being the crown jewel of the entire Golf lineup, which already includes luminaries like the Golf GTI and the Golf R .

All that though and we still can’t get over the treat of seeing a 2.0-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder engine inside the sports hatch packing 400 horsepower. On top of that, it will also carry a dual-clutch automatic transmission and a 4Motion all-wheel-drive system.

Though specific performance details haven’t been announced, it’s reasonable to expect a 0-yo-60-mph time of under four seconds to go with a top speed of 174 mph. In the end, those numbers may even be conservative, if the production model has more than 400 ponies on tap.

It all started in 1956 when wealthy American businessman Tony Parravano hired the Italian manufacturer, Maserati to develop a new V-8 for use in the chassis of the Kurtis Indy. Maserati saw the opportunity to revive the project codenamed Tipo 54 and develop its own engine for use its sport-specific chassis. The original car carrying a V-6 engine with chassis number 3501 became the test bed for the car ordered by the American.

The 450S made its first appearance at the Swedish Grand Prix’s practice session in August 1956, stunning everyone with its tremendous acceleration and top speed. The car clocked the third best timing in the practice, but the underdeveloped car could not handle the vibrations resonating from the wrong firing order of the engine’s spark plugs. Afterwards, the 450S received a new chassis at Mondena factory.

The development continued and in 1957, the new production 450S was rolled out to have its maiden race at the 1000 km of Buenos Aires where it led the Ferrari twin-cam sports car by 10 seconds. The car suffered from a failed transmission and retired from the race. However, the car went on to claim its first ever podium finish in the 1957 Swedish GP. Sadly, FIA changed the rules next year, making 450S ineligible for the Grand Prix.

The car was quickly prepared for the 1956 Mille Miglia 1,000-mile race. Legendary driver Stirling Moss, along with Denis Jenkinson as navigator, experienced a brake failure and the car came to rest against a tree. Driver and co-driver walked away without a scratch, but the car had to return to the factory for repairs and further development.

Fantuazzi then came into picture when he designed a new body with a contoured design. The car also got a longer wheelbase to accommodate the new V-8 engine. The updated vehicle was tested in the Swedish Grand Prix in August 1956 where the car’s builders continued to tweak is new chassis and make improvements.

BMW ’s Individual customization arm already has a large portfolio through which customers can enhance both the exterior and interior of their vehicles, but that didn’t stop the German automaker from expanding their offerings for the 2015 model year.

As of this summer, buyers will be able to choose from even more unique features like paint jobs and luxurious cabin trims for an array of vehicles sold in North America. The offer addresses not only the new M3 and M4 in both coupe and convertible body styles, but the 4 Series Gran Coupe as well.

For example, the Gran Coupe will get no less than four new exterior finishes, while the M3 and M4 will benefit from the same number of body wraps, but in different hues. Frozen Grey, Frozen Bronze, Pyrite Brown, and Tansanite Blue – all in metallic finishes – are the main attractions of BMW’s update.

These updates come just in time for hot summer fun in BMW’s latest offerings. These new options only make specing out new Bimmer more appealing, but be sure you have a fat bank account before checking any of the expensive options.

The current-generation Audi R8 is getting ready to enter its last year on the market as the automaker is already testing a redesigned version. However, the Germans haven’t given up on the current R8 just yet.

Starting this summer, customers will be able to acquire an even more powerful version of the V-10 variant which will carry the LMX name and sit atop the V-10 Plus . Besides a significant power bump, the LMX also benefits from extensive Audi Exclusive treatment with numerous bespoke parts added inside and out.

A unique blue paint job, new wheels, carbon-fiber reinforced plastic components, and a leather-wrapped cockpit are only a few of the features found on the new edition. But more importantly, the new sports car is fitted with Audi’s laser light technology, previously seen on the R18 e-tron quattro race car .

Although only 99 units are set to be built, the Audi R8 LMX will become the first production road-going vehicle to carry laser headlamps, snatching the achievement from German rival BMW who will launch a similar technology in the i8 sports car later this year. A sneaky move from Audi, who is probably introducing the LMX only to poke at the Bavarian company.

If you want to know it means to be a true car enthusiast, you need to hear this story about Doug Demuro. Doug used to work for Porsche PR, but now he is a writer like all of us here at TopSpeed. Well, just like us except he also owns a Ferrari . This is where the story gets interesting.

You see, Doug hates people that own these amazing cars that only hoard them. You know the guys – if you look at their car wrong, they make sure you understand that it is their car and you are to come nowhere near it.

The problem with that is it’s cars like this that bring people into our automotive world. Kids don’t excited about seeing a Camry , but when they see a Ferrari, they suddenly know why cars are cool . Doug decided that the best way to share his automotive fortune would be to, well, share it. He found 20 different friends and let each one drive his shiny red Ferrari 360 Modena .

Best of all, he had the foresight to film the whole adventure. The car comes away 100 percent unhurt, so if you wanted to see scraped paint, look elsewhere. What actually happened is 20 people experienced a life-changing drive in a Ferrari, and it is beautiful.

Well we know it is coming, but we finally have the first solid, rolling evidence of the new four-cylinder Porsche Boxster .

Our spy photographers have captured a new mule doing the rounds at the Nürburgring. While there are no visual cues that this taped up convertible is only running on four-cylinders, our spies report that the exhaust note was anything but the traditional flat-six wail the usually exits the rear of the Porsche .

While there have been some rumors that the upcoming four-banger Porsche may be using a more traditional in-line design engine than a flat-four setup, our spies were only able to catch it for two laps, so there was not enough listening time accurately gauge the engine note.

Beyond the engine note, this appears to be a fairly standard Porsche Boxster with some tape and sensors collecting loads of fancy data for the German engineers to salivate over.

If you ever really doubted all of Porsche’s plans to bring a four-cylinder car to market, this should finally put all those doubts to rest. We may even get shots of the new four-banger Cayman soon as well.

Expect to see a full announcement before the end of the year, with an on-sale date early in 2015.

Once BMW confirmed that the coupe and convertible versions of the 1 Series would be marketed as the 2 Series , it was clear as daylight that a high performance M2 version is underway.

We’ve already rendered the successor to the cool 1M and strolled through plenty of details about the upcoming coupe, but the time has come to have a look at the real deal, as our skilled paparazzi have caught a prototype version of the M2 stretching its wheels somewhere in Germany .

Far from being a production-ready vehicle, this mule wears front and rear fascias similar to those seen on the M235i Coupe , but it appears to be fitted with wider fenders. Other details that highlight the vehicle’s ankle-biting nature are the M-style wheels wrapped in Michelin tires and the cross-drilled rotors paired with blue brake calipers.

As development continues, we’re expecting to see a more aggressive front bumper, a more pronounced rear diffuser, and quad exhaust pipes.

Naturally, the M2 will be the most powerful model in the 2-Series range, with its twin-turbocharged, 3.0-liter inline-six to deliver around 400 horsepower. That’s about 80 horses more than the M235i, just enough to turn the M2 into a heck of a coupe.

With Toyota still mum on details, the much rumored Scion FR-S Sedan is still a mystery, but with plenty of speculation floating around it. The only thing we’re sure of is that the FR-S platform has been designed to support a sedan body style , as Toyota chief engineer Tetsuya Tada revealed last year.

Up until now it was believed that the four-door would be powered by the same 2.0-liter boxer engine - good for 200 horsepower and 151 pound-feet of torque, found in the coupe. Today, however, a report from Motor Trend quoted inside sources claiming the sedan will actually be sold with two different powertrains.

One of them will be a Subaru -sourced turbocharged, 2.0-liter unit found in the current-generation Legacy that’s tuned to deliver at least 300 horsepower and mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. The second model will reportedly gain a hybrid drivetrain, but actual details are unknown except for the fact that Toyota is working on a system "that’s compatible to Subaru’s boxer engine."

The conventional FR-S Sedan is expected to hit showrooms by mid-2016 with the hybrid variant featuring all-wheel-drive to arrive several months later. Compared to the FR-S coupe, the sedan will be 20 inches longer and 4 inches taller for improved interior room.
