sports cars

Sports Cars are engineered to go around corners and straight lines as fast as possible. They are usually expensive, dangerous and so much fun that everybody wants one. Owning a sports car is a gratifying experience but it will cost you money and back pain as they are usually expensive to maintain and not very comfortable. But who cares as they look like supermodels at the beach.

While waiting for the BMW M2 , the company decided to update the recently launched 2 Series Coupe with a meaner appearance thanks to pretty impressive list of M Performance parts. They can be applied to all the models in the lineup and offer both an athletic appearance and sporty interior ambiance to the new 2 Series . All the updates will be available starting March 2014.

Thanks to the new BMW M Performance parts the 2 Series Coupe will also deliver a little bit more power. For example the 220d gets an additional 16 horsepower and 29 pound-feet of torque. For the M235i BMW is offering a new silencer system, tailpipes in chrome or carbon and a limited-slip differential.

All the models will also get a new sports suspension that brings the model closer to the ground by about 20 mm (0.78 inches) plus a new brake system brake system with brake calipers painted in a choice of red, yellow or orange. There is also a new set of 19-inch wheels offered in two design versions.

Mercedes-Benz SLC-Class

Now that Mercedes said its "Good Bye" to the current SLS AMG with the Final Edition revealed at the 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show, the company is now focusing on the development of its successor. The next AMG GT, also known as the SLC , but internally known as the C190 was caught testing today by our spy photographers, and, as you can see it started to loose that nasty camouflage.

Offered as a direct competitor to the Porsche 911 , the upcoming AMG GT will be offered with at least three engine options, with the base model delivering somewhere between 400 and 500 horsepower and the Black Series version up to 600 horsepower.

The new Mercedes AMG GT is expected to be unveiled at the 2014 German Grand Prix next July. Mercedes said the model will only be offered in a coupe version, but a roadster version could also be offered if the model will prove itself successful.

In the latest episode of Drive, Chris Harris put face to face two of the latest sports cars: the new Porsche 911 Turbo S and the McLaren MP4 12C . Why this strange choice? Well, because the new Turbo S is a very expensive car, and, according to Harris, it "probably needs to fend-off more exotic machinery like a yellow McLaren."

As a reminder, the 911 Turbo S is powered by a turbocharged 3.8-liter six-cylinder engine with direct fuel injection that delivers a total of 560 horsepower. It goes from 0 to 60 mph in 3.1 seconds and can hit a top speed of 197 mph. On the other hand, the MP4 12C gets a 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 with an output of 616 horsepower. It goes from 0 to 60 mph in 3.1 seconds and up to 207 mph.

Check out the video to see which of the two sports car was the best according to Harris.

In the latest episode of Drive, Matt Farah took the 2014 Mini Cooper Works GP to the Silver State Classic — an open road challenge in the Nevada desert — to see just how good the GP really is.

According to Matt, he was excited about the idea, but in the end the experiment didn’t go too well, because the organizers wanted them to go relatively slowly, and when driving a Mini GP, the only thing you can do is go fast as hell. So, check out the video to see what happened in the end and how fast the GP really is.

As a reminder, the GP is powered by a modified 1.6-liter, four-cylinder, turbocharged engine that delivers a total of 218 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 191 pound-feet of torque from just 1,750 rpm. It goes from 0 to 60 mph in just 6.3 seconds and up to a top speed of 150 mph.

If there’s an automaker that has done a remarkable job in changing its image and uplifting its own brand, it’s Jaguar .

Gone are the days when the British brand was described as bland and unreliable. In recent years, it’s been far from that, displaying an edge and aggressiveness to its design that has endeared itself to a lot of people.

The dramatic change in business approach by Jaguar also gave way for a lot of aftermarket companies to begin looking at the company’s cars for potential programs.

One such tuning firm, 2M-DESIGNS, did just that. With the help of Loder1899 and MB-Individual Cars, 2M-DESIGNS was able to build a rather spunky program for current generation Jaguar XF . Sure, it’s a 2011 model, but it still looks spry and agile, two qualities you can attribute to the cat that shares the company’s name.

A host of aerodynamic changes were done to the XF , highlighted by a new front spoiler borrowed that was actually borrowed from the XFR-S . A minor tint was also applied on both the headlights and taillights while a PWF Diamond White and Black Brushed wrap was used on the body of the sports sedan . From there, Loder1899 was tasked to install a new quad exhaust system, as well as a new set of 21-inch alloy wheels wrapped in Continental tires.

Under its hood, the XF also received an impressive performance boost from 2M-DESIGNS, one that made use of a number of new components, all of which contributed in giving the XF an improved output of 340 horsepower, a significant increase from the 275-horsepower output of the standard model. The resulting uptick in power also allowed the XF to improve its 0-to-60 mph time to just 5.4 seconds with a top speed of 175 mph.

If you’re interested in this program, 2M DESIGNS is making it available for just €15,017, which is about $20,400 based on current exchange rates.

The British magazine EVO put head to head the recently launched Ferrari 458 Speciale , its base version the 458 Italia and its predecessor, the hardcore 430 Scuderia . All three cars were driven by Jethro Bovingdon, on a racetrack in the UK.

In terms of output figures it’s 605 horsepower (458 Speciale) vs. 570 horsepower (base 458 Italia) vs. 503 horsepower (430 Scuderia), so it appears that the 458 Speciale has a huge advantage on the racetrack, but we all know that it’s not all about horsepower on the racetrack. Check out the video to see what Jethro Bovingdon thinks of the three supercars and which one did best on the track.

As a reminder, the 458 Speciale is powered by the same 4.5-liter, V-8 powerplant from the base 458 Italia, but with the output increased to 605 horsepower and 398 pound-feet. It goes from 0 to 60 mph in just only 3 seconds and up to a top speed of 202 mph.

Nissan 370Z

We’re pretty sure that most of you have heard, or maybe even said, "man, I would give my left nut to get that car." We are also pretty sure that anyone who has uttered those words would likely back off of them when the opportunity presented itself. Well, we found one man that took someone up on the offer... sort of.

Enter in Mark Parisi, the man that essentially sold his testicle to buy his dream car, a Nissan 370Z . He announced on CBS’s show The Doctors that his testicle will go to medical science research and that his reward for the donation was a cool 35k. Just enough to buy the 370Z that he so dearly desired.

We don’t know about you, but selling off one-third of your manhood for a $35,000 Nissan seems a little crazy, but that’s just our opinion. Now, we may have a tougher debate if said manhood removal would net us a Ferrari LaFerrari or a Porsche 918 Spyder . We guess everyone has their price...

Limited-run vehicles always grab the attention of customers and even more so when one of these models are given a comprehensive aftermarket upgrade.

That’s the case with the Volkswagen Polo R WRC Street , a car that VW built to celebrate its return to WRC. But even with that, B&B decided that the car wasn’t special enough. So what does it do?

Well, it made it even more special, that’s what!

This the German pocket rocket already has enough stylish and mechanical digs to make consumers weep, but B&B opted to make it extra special, adding a host of upgrades to improve the car’s handling requirements. As such, the Polo R WRC Street now has a coilover kit, sports springs, stabilizers a high-performance braking system with four- or six-piston calipers and a new set of 18-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 225/35R18 tires.

But the real treat of this program is the comprehensive performance upgrade, highlighted by a Stage 3 kit that includes the installation of a bespoke high-pressure fuel pump and a sports exhaust system to go with a modified air suction system, a new high-performance intercooler and a different oil-cooling system. All told, B&B was able to bump up the output of the Polo R WRC Street from the standard 217 horsepower and 258 pound-feet torque output all the way up to a tidy 362 horsepower and 376 pound-feet of torque.

With those changes, this German spitfire is now capable of hitting 62 mph in just 5.2 seconds, a full 1.2 seconds faster than the ’standard’ model, to go with a top speed of 168 mph, up from 151 mph.

Audi S1

It’s been a while since we last caught the upcoming Audi S1 out and about testing, but today our spy photographers managed to spot it somewhere in on public roads in Germany and inside an Audi facility. Unlike the previous prototypes, this one dropped some of the camouflage and is getting closer to the final product.

The prototype caught testing today by our spy photographers is powered by a gasoline engine, most likely the 2.0-liter TFSI engine with somewhere in the 220- to 250-horsepower area. The power will be sent to all four wheels via Audi’s quattro system.

The new S1 will be offered to those customers interested in a sport hatchback, but whom haven’t had the chance to buy one of the 333 A1 Quattro units. The S1 will offer similar performance figures, but a milder and less extreme body kit.

The new Audi S1 is expected to be unveiled in early 2014 in both three- and five-door configurations.
