sports cars

Sports Cars are engineered to go around corners and straight lines as fast as possible. They are usually expensive, dangerous and so much fun that everybody wants one. Owning a sports car is a gratifying experience but it will cost you money and back pain as they are usually expensive to maintain and not very comfortable. But who cares as they look like supermodels at the beach.

A lot of Ford’s SEMA -bound vehicles come with their share of aesthetic and performance upgrades. But you can argue that none come with the kind of visual appeal as the Ford Focus ST that was worked on by Universal Technical Institute.

Thanks to some help from the folks over at Axalta, UTI’s decision to dress up this Focus ST with a vintage Gulf Racing livery speaks to our inner racing enthusiast. There’s something about that recognizable blue and orange livery that just tugs at our strings and its no different then than it is now.

Moving past the Gulf Racing colors, the UTI team also sought the help of Neil Tjin of Tjin Edition to create and design the Focus ST’s exterior look. Once that was taken cared of, the car’s body kit was built by DTM Autobody while the 19-inch deep-concave Forgestar wheels were also added into the car, creating a more track-oriented look that adds more appeal to the sports hatchback’s already impressive looks.

Under the hood of this UTI-tuned Focus ST, an intercooler kit was installed by Vortech Superchargers with Motiv Concepts taking care of the high-flow catalytic converter. Taken together, this Focus ST sees a significant power boost, although the official numbers have yet to be announced.

Either way, this Focus ST is really one for the books. That’s how much love we have for that Gulf Racing livery.

The Nissan GT-R Goliath prepared by Switzer Performance delivers a total of 1,500 horsepower, so the fact that it managed to hit a top speed of 402 km/h (250 mph) is not too surprising. What is very surprising, however, is that it needed only one mile and just 22.6 seconds to hit this incredible speed. This makes the Goliath the world’s fastest GT-R in a one-mile sprint.

Apparently, there are only two other cars in the world that scored similar results: a Ford GT that managed to hit a top speed of 267 mph and a Chevrolet Camaro that hit the same 250 mph.

For those of you who do not know much about the GT-R Goliath, it keeps the same 3.8-liter, V-6 engine as a stock GT-R, but Switzer updated it with new intercoolers, plumbing and a new exhaust hardware. All these changed lead to a final output of in excess of 1,700 horsepower — almost three times the initial output of the GT-R .

At the 2012 Goodwood Festival of Speed , Mazda unveiled the MX-5 GT Concept . Because the GT Concept’s reception was so warm, the folks at Jota decided to produce this concept and add a little more pep to its step.

The new MX-5 GT Jota is based on the MX-5 Roadster Coupe 2.0-litre Sport Tech version, but Jota added a more powerful engine, an updated exterior look and a sportier cabin. What’s even cooler is that the new GT Jota is about 1.5 seconds faster to 60 mph than a base MX-5.

The new MX-5 GT Jota checks in at £29,995 (about $48,500 at the current exchange rates). It will be sold exclusively by Le Mans race specialists Jota, so only the British customers will have the chance to enjoy it. For now, us Americans will simply have to wait until Mazda decides to bring back the Mazdaspeed MX-5 project.

Nissan Esflow

In the U.S., everyone is eagerly awaiting the 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show to open its gates, but Japan has its own big show — the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show — coming up too. It is in its home country that Nissan plans to introduce two sports car concepts that will wow the world: one developed as a "crazy concept" and a second that will closely represent a production vehicle.

According to WhatCar, the second vehicle will gauge the market for a competitor to the Toyota GT 86 , with design elements inspired by an earlier Nissan model.

If you are all anticipating a new 240Z, you can put that to bed, as a Nissan insider confirmed that this is "not a Z car." Other that that, the insider remained mum on the car’s details.

For now, this concept’s goal is to test peoples’ reaction and if everything goes well, we expect Nissan to put it into production in the upcoming years. To put it in line with the GT 86/BRZ/FR-S triplets, Nissan will likely fit this sports car with the same 197-horsepower, 1.6-liter turbocharged engine found in the Nissan Juke Nismo .

Full details on this new concept will be revealed during its official debut in Tokyo, so stay tuned!

For a lot of cars, sales are the ultimate form of vindication. Others prefer being awarded with five-star safety ratings.

For the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray , it’s a combination of all of those things...and then some.

Recently, the new Corvette was bestowed an honor not a lot of cars can lay claim to and in the process, joins the Toyota Prius in that acclaim. See, the mighty Corvette Stingray, in all of its awesomeness, has been immortalized as a Monopoly token.

The Corvette Stingray token will appear in the new Monopoly Empire game, a shorter edition of the iconic capitalist-driven board game that replaces real estate with actual pop culture brands. In addition to the use of the Corvette Stingray token, other tokens that are available in Monopoly Empire include a McDonalds french fries, an Xbox controller, a Paramount clapboard, a Coke bottle, and what looks like a Ducati motorbike.

Pretty esteemed company for the Corvette Stingray to be a part of, huh?

A roster of popular brands litter the board game, taking the place of all those addresses that we’ve all become accustomed to. Yahoo! is in it, as are Beats Audio, Samsung, eBay, Jet Blue, and a host of other brands a lot of us are familiar with.

And in case anybody wants to play Monopoly Empire with us, we’re calling dibs on the Corvette Stingray token as early as now.

As Ford used us by now, with a few weeks before the 2013 SEMA opens its doors in Las Vegas, the company started to revealed the first details on the models it prepared for the show. One of these vehicles is a pretty cool Fiesta ST tuned by the guys over MRT.

The concept was designed as a stylish street performer updated with aftermarket parts and a pretty aggressive body kit that enhance its sporty reputation. The car is powered by an EcoBoost engine mated to a six-speed transmission and combined with a high-performance exhaust system. However, up to this point we can not tell you for sure the amount of power delivered by this Fiesta ST .

The car sits on 18-inch wheels from Rotiform and features a cool custom paint that combines green, black and some orange stripes.

At the SEMA show Ford also prepared a special Xbox One demo station that will allow visitors to play the Xbox One’s “Forza Motorsport 5,” which goes on November 22nd, but also to virtually test the Fiesta ST.

A while ago it was reported that the new Alfa Romeo 4C lapped the famous Nurbugring track in 8:04 - a time that made it one of the fastest cars with engines under 250 HP and in line with times set by sports cars with much higher prices and more powerful engines, like the Audi R8 V8 and the Porsche Cayman S.

Now Alfa Romeo officially confirmed that time and released a video to prove us all what a great car the 4C is.

The car was driven by journalist and expert on the German track Horst von Saurma and was equipped with special Pirelli P Zero Trofeo tyres, the most sporty version in the Pirelli P Zero line.

This is one of the countless tests that the Alfa Romeo supercar had to face in every part of the world, from the -35° in Sweden to the +40° of Abu Dhabi, from the Arizona (USA) deserts to the slopes of Mt. Etna in Sicily, and from the Balocco (VC), Italy track to the one at the Nürburgring. During all of these tests the 4C did a great job, so all we can say is: please Alfa bring the 4C to the U.S. right now!

Mercedes CLA 45 AMG

The fact that both the new Mercedes A45 and CLA45 AMG models are enjoying a great success should be no surprise to anyone. After all this is the first time AMG is offering reasonable priced cars and also is the first time an AMG model is offered by an inline-four engine.

In a recent interview with Motoring, Mercedes-Benz AMG boss Tobias Moers confirmed that the company itself was a little bit surprised by the huge success the two models are enjoying: "For sure when you enter a new segment there is much interest. I was not surprised at the success of the cars... Well, maybe a little surprised... But the feedback from the distributors around the world for the next year [and beyond] – that was very surprising."

As a result, AMG will have to increase production to meet the expectations around the globe. You also have to keep in mind that next year Mercedes plans to introduce the new GLA 45 AMG model that will boost sales even more.

Moers also confirmed that the two models will not receive a Black Series version, because Black Series will be kept exclusive for the two-door models.
