sports cars

Sports Cars are engineered to go around corners and straight lines as fast as possible. They are usually expensive, dangerous and so much fun that everybody wants one. Owning a sports car is a gratifying experience but it will cost you money and back pain as they are usually expensive to maintain and not very comfortable. But who cares as they look like supermodels at the beach.

There aren’t very much tuners out there that have put their talents to use on the McLaren MP4-12C , but the gang over at Autodynamica decided to load up the McLaren with all sorts of exterior, interior and, most importantly, performance upgrades.

The tuner started by updating the exterior look of the MP4-12C . For this the coated the lower lip in a sharp gray. Autodynamica then turned its attention to installing a carbon-fiber lower grille bars and side-view mirrors, giving the MP4-12C a more race-inspired look. Under the hood, the customers will get a surprise in the form of a signature from F1 McLaren driver Sergio "Checo" Perez.

Our favorite part of this project, as you can likely guess, is what’s under the hood. Under here, the tuner reprogrammed the ECU and spent an exhausting – no pun intended – 10 hours installing a new Fabspeed X-pipe and high-flow catalytic converters.

After these changes, the super car now turns in an astounding 724 horsepower and 552 pound-feet of torque.

After a tune of this magnitude, you need to add some extra sticky stuff under the car. Autodynamica was happy to oblige with a set of 20- and 21-inch HRE wheels on the front and rear, respectively, wrapped in high-performance rubber.

Jaguar XKR-S GT

Earlier this year at the 2013 New York Auto Show , Jaguar unveiled the 2014 XKR-S GT - a special edition initially intended to be limited to only 30 units, but due to high demand, increased to 50 units. Now, in an interview with Edmunds, Jaguar’s design studio director Wayne Burgess confirmed that the company plans to offer more R-S GT models.

Burgess said that the R-S GT line will become something similar to the Black Series models offered by Mercedes. He said that starting at this point, all the future models will get an "R" version, while the "R-S" version will be offered for more extreme enthusiast-focused variants. He added that the "R-S GT" badge will be used for for limited-run, hand-built special editions.

While Burgess offered no details on the next model to get the GT treatment, we expect to see it applied to either the XFR-S or the new F-Type roadster .

In 2011, a Subaru Impreza STi became the fastest road-legal sedan around the Nürburgring with a lap time of 7 minutes and 55 seconds. Not too fast, relatively speaking, but still, good enough to push it to the top of the model’s list of fastest times. This year a road-legal Subaru Impreza that was prepared by UK tuners, Revolution Motorstore, became the fastest Impreza around the `Ring with a lap time of 7.53.08.

This specially prepared Impreza is powered by a 2.2-liter Cosworth engine that delivers a total of 508 horsepower and 500 pound-feet of torque. However, the record was set on medium boost, meaning the engine delivered only about 400 horsepower.

Other changes to the Revolution Impreza include the removal of the rear doors, wider arches, a carbon-fiber hood, aluminum boot and thinner glass. The car sits on 19-inch OZ Superturismo LM alloy wheels combined and comes to a stop by way of Tarox 10-pot brake calipers.

Chevrolet Code 130R Concept

A few months ago, rumors started floating around about an entry-level, rear-wheel-drive sports car in GM’s lineup that would target models similar to Scion FR-S .

Now, in a recent interview with Automotive News, General Motors North America President Mark Reuss revealed that he would like to see a lightweight, rear-wheel-drive sports car in Chevrolet’s lineup.

Reuss told Automotive News "A really nice, light, rear-drive car that’s inexpensive - we know that rings a bell. That would be a huge win for us if we had that." However, such a model is still not on the drawing board, but GM already played with the idea when it unveiled the Code 130R Concept at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show .

If built, the new sports car will not be developed on GM’s Alpha platform; instead, GM is considering a platform that is "really scaleable and efficient." The model will also not feature the same design language we have seen in the Code 130R because it is "already dated."

We obviously care a great deal about our cars and the way they look. Some of us, though, opt for something a little more along the lines of eye-catching, so steps are taken to further improve the car’s aesthetics relative to its stock features.

R1 Motorsport believes in the same thing. Why settle for a standard BMW M6 when you can turn into one of the meanest cars on the block? To its credit, R1 Motorsport answered that question in resounding fashion, dressing up the German sports car in a satin black finish that’s about as menacing as it gets this side of matte black.

You can’t deny that the M6 looks a lot nastier than what it did in standard guise. Add that to the M6’s 4.4-liter V-8 engine that produces 560 horsepower and 500 pound-feet of torque with a 0-to-60 mph time of 4.2 seconds and a top speed of 155 mph, and you have a true sports coupe - a big and mean one - that can make other sports cars in its path squirm with fear.

Volkswagen Scirocco was unleashed in 1974 and remained in production until 1992; then, in 2008 the model was brought back to life and enjoyed a great success – unfortunately, the U.S. didn’t receive the model this time around. Now, Volkswagen is celebrating the development of its one-millionth Scirocco — 795,650 units for the first two generations and 204,350 units for the third one – with a special Scirocco Million.

This commemorative model comes painted in a special "Deep Black Metallic" combined with sporty accent stripes on the middle of the body and "Galvanic Grey" mirror caps. The car is offered with standard 18-inch alloy wheels, while 19-inch alloy wheels are offered as an option. The model also receives R-Line bumpers, R-Line side sills, smoked taillights and "Million" stickers on the wings.

For the interior, Volkswagen is offering standard leather seating with contrasting seams in "Snap Orange," a black roof liner, stainless-steel pedals and, of course, entry plates with "Million" lettering.

Buyers can order the new Scirocco Million with three different engine options with power ranging from 122 to 210 horsepower.

The new Scirocco Million Edition will only be offered on the German and Chinese markets. In Germany, it is priced at €27,325 (about $35k).

Aston Martin Vantage

The V12 Vantage was previewed in 2007 by the concept V12 Vantage RS and a production version arrived two years later. Initially, Aston Martin planned to produce a total of 1,000 units and it had no intention of bringing the model to the U.S. market.

Things have changed though and theV12 Vantage was eventually homologated for the U.S. market and the production was increased to about 1,320 units. This number includes both the roadster version and the V12 Zagato.

Now, in an official later sent to its dealers, Aston Martin announced that no orders are being accepted for the V12 Vantage. It looks like the letter was sent on Friday April 19, 2013 and it basically confirms that the V12 Vantage is dead.

This news comes as a big surprise, considering it is rumored that Aston Martin will also offer a small run of V12 Vantage "Centenary Editions." If this is still the plan, then our assumption is that these Centenary models are completely sold out.

Volkswagen Concept BlueSport

After Volkswagen unveiled the BlueSport Concept at the 2009 Detroit Auto Show , the possibility of getting a production version has been up and down more than a roller coaster.

In fact, last year at the Paris Auto Show Volkswagen confirmed for the last time that the BlueSport will not happen.

Just today, a Volkswagen official – design chief Walter de Silva to be more exact – in an interview with German magazine Auto Motor Und Sport has stated that "this is a vehicle that we particularly like, and we always had in mind."

de Silva also said in the interview that he is not the only one in the company that thinks a small roadster wouldn’t be a bad decision for VW and that several employees are pushing to put it into production.

While we are not very sure this is an official confirmation of a production version, we are pretty sure a new round of speculations is about to begin.

At the beginning of 2013, Mazda and Alfa Romeo signed an agreement that will bring a new roadster to each company: a new MX-5 for the Japanese company and a new Spider for the Italian one . Both models will be built at Mazda’s Hiroshima plant starting 2015, but each model will offer its own engines.

Until now, it has been rumored that the MX-5 would use a 1.3-liter turbocharged engine that features SkyActiv technology. However, new details suggest that the tiny roadster could also get a diesel engine. you read that right; we said diesel…

However, because a diesel roadster could be a tough sell to traditionalists, Mazda will still offer a gasoline alternative. Rumors suggest that this diesel engine will be a naturally aspirated 1.6-liter SkyActiv engine that produces approximately 130 horsepower. This would give the Miata its lowest horsepower output since it bumped the standard 1.8-liter four-cylinder to 133 horsepower in 1996.

As for the Spider version, it could be offered with a turbocharged 1.4-liter ‘TB’ engine with power ranging from 120 horsepower in the base model to 296 horsepower for the top versions. Both models will be offered with a six-speed manual gearbox.

Mazda will focus on offering modern materials and design techniques that could help keep the total weight down to about 1,760 pounds.
