Spy Shots and Renderings

When Audi pulled the covers off its new TT at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show a few weeks ago, we were all instantly in love with its newly shaped body, combination of angles and curves, and its impressive array of powertrain options. It was a relief after waiting on it for what seemed like years., but now we’ve got one more TT to be anxious for: the TT Roadster.

Our rendering artist sent us this masterful sketch of what the new drop-top TT might look like, though it doesn’t take much to imagine what Audi is likely to design. The TT has traditionally used a fabric soft top and we don’t imagine that will change. The two hoops behind the seats will likely return as well. The flat rear deck and strong belt line are two classic TT traits likely to return as well.

The TT Roadster’s powertrain won’t differ from the TT Coupe that debuted at Geneva. The TT currently has three engines in its lineup: a 2.0-liter TDI diesel making 184 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque; a 2.0-liter TFSI gasoline turbo making 230 horsepower and 272 pound-feet of torque; and a more powerful 2.0-liter TFSI gasoline turbo kicking out 310 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque.

It’s unlikely the U.S. will see the diesel engine, but the other two will make their way over. We do expect a more powerful TT RS to make its debut sometime soon as well.

Just the other day, we caught the 2015 Cayenne having a Marilynn Monroe moment, as a gust of wind blew the cover off of its front end. That was the first really good look that we got at the front end of the Cayenne , but now we get a nice sneak peek at the Turbo model’s front end, as our spy shooters caught it out and about.

With the exception of the whistle from the engine, the only other ways to tell this is a Turbo model and not the standard Cayenne are the rims, the extensions on the bumpers and the fog lights up front.

just like the standard Cayenne that we caught recently, the Turbo model’s front end is in full view, but the back end still has its lights hidden by covers. These covers, which are the shape of the taillights on the current Cayenne, hide slimmer taillights that are similar to those we’ve seen on the Macan , Panamera and 911 .

Under its hood, we expect the Cayenne Turbo to feature the same 520 horsepower, 4.8-liter V-8 as the Panamera Turbo.

The wintery winds of change are blowing the covers off the newly restyled 2015 Porsche Cayenne as our spy photographers captured this unmasked example of Porsche’s latest redesign. From the looks of things, the changes are minor with the majority of updates relegated to the front turn signals, fog lights, and center grille.

For starters, the center grille is more rectangular than last year’s gaping mouth, and the side air inlets decrease in size to match the grille. The turn signals within those air inlets have been pushed upward into the bodywork, removing their free-floating appearance from 2013. The cruise control radar is also repositioned to the grille’s center, down from the 12 o’clock position in last year’s grille. Perched just above the radar looks to be a front view camera. The fog lights now stick out further with less bodywork around them.

Interestingly, the headlights almost look like stickers off a NASCAR Sprint Cup car. Perhaps the HIDs weren’t ready for real-world testing yet. Speaking of lights, turn signal repeaters now reside on the side mirrors, doubling the ones on the front fender. Besides the reshaped mirror, the side profile of the SUV — the doors and rear quarter panels — appears unchanged. Though not in these photos, we expect the taillights to get a similar 3D-like appearance resembling the Macan .

At this point, not much is know about potential powertrains for the 2015 Cayenne. Rumors swirl about Porsche offering a plug-in hybrid version, but nothing solid has been nailed down. Expect the diesel and gas variants to return with some possible tweaks to increase fuel efficiency and power outputs.

After three years of service, the Audi A1 is about to get a major facelift. This couldn’t come at a better moment, as a lot of its competitors, specifically the Mini Cooper , has just come out with a new look.

This heavily camouflaged mule of the A1 gives us an indication of what to expect when all the wraps are taken out. Looking at the photos our spy photographer sent us, the facelifted A1 looks to carry a number of similar styling characteristics with the performance-oriented S1 . The front and rear lights in particular, appear to be similar in treatment to the S1 while, the front bumper, even if its not completely distinguishable, looks to be a new design with an updated grille and new fog lights.

Overall, minimal changes were given, compared to all these next-gen models that are popping up. It may only be three years since the A1 arrived, but is it at all possible that Audi begins thinking about working on a next-gen A1?

We’re hoping that’s the direction it takes, but for now, the 2015 Audi A1 will retain most of its old digs.

Audi has been working on facelifted versions of the A6 range, including the RS6 Avant , and this new set of spy shots seem to indicate that development of the revised RS6 is further along than we imagined.

Not surprisingly, there doesn’t appear to be a whole lot of changes made to the RS6. The heavy camouflage doesn’t leave a whole lot to look at, although it seems fair to assume that much of the clean styling the RS6 has had will remain intact, including the larger Singleframe grille.

Minor mods to the front, lower bumper and the rear bumper could be added to the RS6, and you can rest assured that those two giant spotlights on the roof will be a part of the RS6 once the car hits dealerships soon.

Everything looks clean and in the right place, which is as good a sign as any that Audi is keeping the look of the RS6 similar to its past models.

Jaguar XE

Well what do we have here? Just a few days after Jaguar officially announced its upcoming 3 Series competitor, the Jaguar XE, we have photos of its blasting around in the snow. With an aluminum-intensive construction, we expect the XE to be very quick and agile.

There are very few confirmed details, but we do know that the car will debut as a sedan with a wagon version coming later. There are also rumors of coupe and convertible versions in the works. If Jaguar hopes to truly compete with BMW , Audi and Mercedes , it makes sense it would expand the XE’s body styles.

Engine choices will start with four-cylinder mills, but it should expand to include high-performance models later. The supercharged V-6 from the F-Type is a likely choice for a performance model that will have about 380 horsepower. That is not quite enough power to really compete with the M3 or C63 AMG , so it’s not a stretch to imagine Jaguar would try to stuff its 5.0-liter V-8 under the hood as well.

Styling is also a bit of a mystery, but considering Ian Callum’s past, we expect the XE to be the prettiest car in the segment. Don’t worry about the odd hunchback shape in these photos, its a disguise. If you look carefully at the head-on shot, you can see a small shelf on the roof. This would be where the huge rear buttress pieces are mounted to the car. This is used to hide the true shape of the rear end. Expect a low, swooping rear window that is closer to the larger XF’s design.

The teaser that Land Rover showed at the Geneva Motor Show was billed as "a sign of things to come" for the new Discovery . And while no announcements have been made on what kind of look the new Discovery will sport, this new batch of spy shots of the Baby Discovery could be what all that teasing was alluding to.

The recent demise of the Freelander name opened the door for the Discovery to have a more prominent role in the Land Rover lineup, and it appears that these new spy photos indicate what could be that long-rumored Baby Discovery, albeit one that’s sportier-looking than those Baby Discovery spy shots we showed back in January.

Before we jump to any conclusions, it’s important to note that the heavy camo makes it rather difficult to make out some elements of the SUV. But there is some noticeable styling, particularly the massive air intakes on the front, the Evoque-like headlights and that massive front grille, which could also point to a more performance-oriented version of the Baby Discovery that carries the R-S badge.

Something tells us there’s still more than what meets the eye with this Baby Discovery, and judging by how much Land Rover is slow-playing this, it wouldn’t shock us to see more spy photos of this vehicle ahead of its debut at the 2014 Paris Motor Show later this year.

Update 3/12/2014 @ 5:25 p.m.: Our spy photographer just informed us that this may also be a mule for the upcoming Jaguar SUV . According to his source, the license plate matched up to a Jaguar plate, but he could not officially confirm it.

Porsche 991 Carrera GTS

Spy shots of the facelifted Porsche 911 were sent to us by our trusty spy photographer, although this time something about the prototype caught our attention that could point to a different, and potentially more powerful 911. Take a closer look at these photos and you might notice that instead of the quad exhausts of the 2015 911, this particular model is sporting a pair of center-mounted exhaust pipes, similar to the setup used on the 2014 911 GT3 .

So what could this interesting little nugget mean? Our best guess is a revival of the GTS , something we haven’t seen from the 911 since the 2011 Carrera GTS arrived in the scene back in 2010.

Another potential model is the 911 Speedster , and the bulging rear end — a little more so than the standard 911 Convertible at least — could be a clue that points in that direction. The canvas roof and the windshield looks unchanged though, and if this is the Speedster, it’s probably an early prototype that will undergo some changes before a production model rolls out.

Either way, what we’re looking at here is a new trim of the 911 that we haven’t seen in quite a while. Our hunch is that this is the 911 GTS, and if it is, it’s definitely a welcome addition to the already growing 911 family.

We’ve already caught the 2015 C63 AMG sedan testing, but we haven’t yet seen the C63 AMG Estate — what we know as a station wagon here in the U.S. Well here it is for your enjoyment, folks, the 2014 C63 AMG Estate. Just a few days ago, we got a good look at the front end of the C63 AMG sedan, as well as its backside, but these shots are a lot less revealing.

Sure, you can still make out the basic placement of the air inlets on the front bumper, but the shape is not there yet. Around back, we can clearly see the revised quad-exit exhaust system, but the wagon still lacks the defined rear diffuser that we clearly made out on the sedan.

Under the hood, however, we already know that despite the model retaining the C63 designation — typically reserved for the outgoing 6.2-liter V-8 — the C63 AMG Estate will share the upcoming tarmac-killing 4.0-liter, V-8 engine that the AMG GT/SLC will feature.

We expect to see the C63 AMG Sedan at the Paris Auto Show in October, and we suspect the wagon will follow it by a few months.

The big question is will we finally get this hot wagon here in the U.S.?

If you thought we were a little smitten with Maserati ’s latest concept, the 2014 Alfier i, you’d be right. We’ve got every finger and toe crossed hopping the automaker pushes the Alfieri into production. But what could be better than a V-8-powered Italian supermodel with looks that kill? A roadster version, of course.

TopSpeed’s rendering genius sketched up this beautiful drop-top Alfieri concept to show what the possibilities might hold. Based on a shortened version of the GranTurismo and using its same 4.7-liter V-8 making 460 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque, the Alfieri Roadster makes a perfect competitor to the Jaguar F-Type Roadster .

The Alfieri’s long hood, high rear haunches, and sloping rear deck look perfectly suited for roadster duty. The rear seats of the coupe’s 2+2 design remain and an integrated third brakelight peaks out from just behind them. The rear fascia looks much the same with its huge vents, thin taillights, and dual exhaust pipes. Not much has changed up front with that distinctive Maserati grille and Trident leading the way.

Since we’re already speculating, it’s safe to guess on the top’s construction. It really depends on how Maserati decides to market the Alfieri Roadster (if ever). Will it be more luxury oriented or performance minded? Like the Jaguar F-Type , it could employ a soft top and thereby saving weight and complexity or the Alfieri may use a convertible hard top like the BMW Z4 , cutting down on road noise and adding security. Either way, we’ve got a second Maserati to be wishing for.
