2011 Spyker C8 Aileron

After a number of delays that really tested the patience of Spyker fans all over the world, we finally have some good news about the brand’s resident supercar, the Spyker C8 Aileron . According to Spyker, the Aileron is finally ready to hit the production line and will do so at the conclusion of the 2011 Geneva Motor Show. Turns out, the production delay stems from the company’s relocation of their production facilities that came as a result of Spyker Spyker ’s take-over of Saab. Now that everything seems to have settled down, production of the C8 Aileron will soon commence - much to the delight of those who have waited a long time for the car to arrive.

The production version of the Spyker C8 Aileron is expected to come with a 6.2-liter LSA V8 engine - the same one under the hood of the Corvette ZR1 and Cadillac CTS-V - that produces over 500 horsepower.

Full details on the Spyker C8 Aileron after the jump.

Exterior

Spyker C8 Aileron

Meticulously hand-crafted and inspired by the company’s rich and storied history in aviation, the C8 Aileron represents the latest in Spyker’s signature architecture. The new C8 Aileron takes off from the design language of its predecessor, albeit with a shift in philosophy: from the propeller design that has come to define the last model, the new C8 Aileron now takes its inspiration to the turbine propulsion.

In doing this, a number of design elements from the last model were scrapped, all in the name of enhancing aerodynamic performance.

Noted by their absence in the new model include the polished air inlets that have been turned into turbine-engine-shaped air scoops; the removal of the shark-like gills to give the car a cleaner and smoother appearance; a larger front grille that provides additional cooling; a redesigned rear diffuser to improve functionality; and an extra spoiler placed under the diffuser to give the car extra downforce.

More to the design of the new C8 Aileron was Spyker’s motivation to give the car more substance over style. As such, the company gave the new car single-pane, full retractable side windows compared to the split-side window design of the old model. Similarly, the outside mirrors on the new car were redesigned and mounted on two turbine fan blades.

As for the lights, the new C8 Aileron has LED lights on the indicators, the sidelights, and the entire rear lights setting. Upon inspection, you’ll also notice that the headlights have been redesigned to follow the body design of the car more closely, which is an indication of the new design philosophy Spyker is instituting with the new model line-up.

For purposes of variety, the C8 Aileron will be available with a choice of 16 color finishes, all of which were developed by Sikkens Autolakken Nederland and AkzoNobel Car Refinishes, two companies that have a glowing reputation for their high quality standards and their flexibility to meet special requirements from customers.

Interior

Spyker C8 Aileron

The interior of the C8 Aileron comes with more breathing room, courtesy of the space created by the car’s longer chassis. To ensure that the level of comfort and ergonomic satisfaction remains top-class, Spyker took careful attention to details, opting for the highest quality leather in the form of the Litano range of the Dutch Royal Tannery Hulshof. This leather option is available in 14 standard colors and if the customer wishes for a more exotic flavor to the leather, it can be ordered as an option.

In the front, the C8 Aileron’s dashboard was completely redesigned to better suit Spyker’s new design direction. The air vents, like the various references on the exterior, have been designed with the same turbine style configuration. In addition, a multifunctional LCD display has been integrated between the speedometer and the odometer with the car’s middle console accommodates the C8 Aileron’s standard Kharma sound system.

Performance

Contrary to previous reports saying that the C8 Aileron will be powered by an Audi-sourced 4.2-liter V8 engine that will produce 400 horsepower, the latest word coming out of Spyker is that the C8 Aileron will instead have a 6.2-liter LSA V8 engine - the same one under the hood of the Corvette ZR1 and Cadillac CTS-V - that produces over 500 horsepower.

Pricing

Spyker C8 Aileron

Despite getting the green light for production - finally! - there’s still no word as to how much the new Spyker C8 Spyker C8 Aileron will cost. Having said that, if you base it on past models and the expected sticker price of the C8 Aileron Spyder, this man-made beast will likely retail at somewhere north of $350,000.

Competition

Spyker C8 Aileron

These days, a 500-horsepower isn’t powerful enough to even crack the Top 10 list of the most powerful supercars on the planet. On the flip side, unlike the rest of those exotics that come with atmospheric price tags, the C8 Aileron will save you some extra dough, provided of course, that paying somewhere around $350,000 isn’t a problem for you.

Say you have that kind of budget and you’re in the market for a supercar, would you choose the more exotic and more expensive Spyker C8 Aileron or the equally exotic yet more powerful and cheaperMcLaren MP4-12C ?

Right off the bat: you can’t go wrong with either car. We’ll say it right now. If we were tasked to make a choice based on aesthetic design and performance capabilities, both cars score high marks on the two departments - the MP4-12C, just so you know, is powered by a 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine that produces 592 horsepower.

The only problem is while the C8 Aileron may be the more enigmatic car of the two - really, how many people outside of auto enthusiasts have heard of the C8 Aileron? - the fact remains that it’s less powerful in comparison to the MP4-12C yet reportedly commands a higher price tag.

I don’t think that 500 horsepower is already beastly for a sports car. And I’m agreeing that it had a lousy dashboard.

Aileron is one of the vehicles today that are very noticeable on its appearance. However, I don’t see the luxury interior that they were saying on it, and I really don’t find it classy instead it looks so crummy.

It looks more like an electric vehicle. Anyway, I’m only impressed with its engine that can deliver a power output of 500 horsepower. However, just like them, I didn’t like also the exterior and interior detailing of it.

Aileron is truly so unique on its platform, but for some reason, I’m not impressed on it, and I don’t really like it, to the point that I wish they would never put it on the market.

It had the looks of a hybrid car, because of its hygienic paint that they use on it. Anyway, I don’t think that 500 horsepower is already beastly for a sports car. And I’m agreeing that it had a lousy dashboard.

Is this a race car? Well, if it is, I think V8 engine with a horsepower of 500 is good for it. It can give a poor performance of a sports car but when it comes to its appearance, it will simply stand out.

Yuck! The dashboard looks so awful! I simply don’t like the style on its interior, but I must say that the exterior is looked so perfect most especially the headlights on it and its impressive figure performance!

Well, I can say that this car is really gorgeous and looks very luxurious. It also has the beast performance having 500+HP! I think the competition will be tough, since there are a lot of options for this car.

I think I will probably have to pass on this one. There are actually a lot of other better cars than this that are at the same price range. It does still have its good points though.

Great car with a great engine! Aileron roadster is the longest and most luxurious kind on the planet! Those long wheel base gives a better comfort!

Definitely love the interior, it is very vintage. And the instrument panel actually reminds me of planes, which is quite befitting since the car is named Aileron.

There are some great examples of innovation in so many cars, but the Spyker is the that will bring the coolest drive.

jaw droppingly so. the angles work really really well and the retention of their trademark transmission linkage with a slush box is very cool too boot.

imo this is one of the most beautiful car i’ve ever seen What gorgeous interior craftsmanship!

cool ride, spyker has a lot of high-end cars, i really love the vertical door of this baby. and it’s glass roof is very teasing.

Exclusivity is a key to Spyker’s appeal. Barely more than 200 Spykers now are on the road, worldwide. As many as 100 Aileron coupes will reach Spyker’s 17 American dealerships starting early in 2010.
