The SRT Viper is preparing to prove what it is capable of this weekend at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The GTS-R version underwent intense testing over the past few weeks and we are pretty certain it will do great. It looks that while testing the GTS-R, SRT also put some time in working on a GT3-R version that will be raced in upcoming GT competitions.
The new GT3-R was developed by Chrysler Group’s Street and Racing Technology (SRT) Motorsports team and will borrow most of its technology from the GTS-R version, including the engine, chassis, suspension, electronics and aerodynamics.
The model is powered by a V-10 engine mated to a sequential transmission with a multi-disc race clutch and paddle shifters. The GT3-R will race on a set of lightweight wheels combined. Dragging this racing serpent to a halt are six-piston front brake calipers.
The new SRT Viper GT3-R is priced at $459,000. Customers can now place their orders and first deliveries will be made in late 2013.

The SRT Viper has become quite the popular sports car and true to form, it’s been very popular in the auction block too.
Recently, the design team at SRT unveiled a one-off Viper GTS that will eventually be auctioned off for the Sons of Italy Foundation. Not all surprising considering that the sports car has already gained quite a following in the short time that it’s been around.
The car is called the Viper GTS Sons of Italy Foundation Edition and it’s been specifically built for the occasion. It’s been finished in a tri-coat pearl white body called "Avorio Perla" and complemented by a new set of one-off multi-spoke black vapor chrome wheels serving the perfect contrast to the Viper GTS’ white body.
Inside, the customized one-off Viper GTS comes dressed to the party in full sepia Laguna leather with the unmistakable colors of the Italian flag running down the center of the seats. A red Styker logo can also be found on the steering wheel with red bezel accents while the GTS badge on the glove box also bears the colors of the green, white, and red.
The Sons of Italy Foundation (SIF) is the charitable division of the Order Sons of Italy in America (OSIA), the country’s largest and longest established organization representing men and women of Italian heritage.

Back in January, Chrysler announced that the new-generation SRT Viper would not be offered in Europe. However, this doesn’t mean the European customers won’t be able to drive one! The problem is that they will need to opt for an unofficially imported Viper.
U.S. car specialist, GeigerCars, announced recently it will import the new Viper and will put it on sale at a price of €139,900 (around $180,500).
Yes, you read it right: that’s almost double an American customer has to pay for a standard Viper, which is priced at $97,395. We are not sure how many units GeigerCars will import, but there will certainly be plenty of Viper-hungry Europeans standing in line to pick one up.
After all, who would turn down the opportunity to be one of the few people in your region to own one of the best sports cars launched in the past year?

Earlier this year, the SRT team announced that the new-generation Viper is preparing its return to the famous 24 Hours of Le Mans race after an absence of 13 years. Now it looks like the company has big hopes for the 81st edition set for June 22nd and 23rd at Circuit de la Sarthe in Le Mans, France.
SRT, in cooperation with Riley Technologies, is preparing two identicalSRT Viper GTS-R models for the race. The two cars were rigorously tested during four ALMS races in 2012 and during the full 2013 racing season. Car No. 91 managed to obtain three consecutive top-five finishes, including a position on the podium at Long Beach, where it finished third.
The two Viper GTS-Rs will be driven by Marc Goossens, Dominik Farnbacher, Jonathan Bomarito and Kuno Wittmer, joined by Tommy Kendall and Ryan Dalziel for the endurance events.

We’re pretty sure that if you want to buy an American sports car this year, you may opt for the SRT Viper, and not the new Corvette Stingray. While Chevrolet failed to capture the usual Corvette allure, SRT did an amazing job in developing an awesome sports car - no slight to the Corvette, of course.
The SRT Viper is powered by a new 8.4-liter, all-aluminum V-10 overhead-valve engine that will deliver a total of 640 horsepower and 600 pound-feet of torque. The new engine will be mated to an improved Tremec TR6060 six-speed manual transmission.
According to Hennessey Performance, which was the latest one to dyno test the 2013 Viper, the new Viper develops a total of 558 rear wheel horsepower and 515 pound-feet of torque. So, how do we get from here to the numbers announced by SRT? Well, simply add forced induction; In fact, you will obtain almost double than SRT announced with some pressurized air flowing through the intake.
The auto industry has been bitten by the web series bug. How else do you explain its proliferation these days with numerous automakers taking to that approach to give outsides like us a chance to see the inner workings of the company.
All this leads us to Dodge, who is following in the steps of Chevrolet Racing to give us "Beyond the Checkered Flag", its own web series that will chronicle Dodge and SRT’s racing season in the ALMS series this year. When a maker develops a sports car, one of the first steps it takes is to head to the drag strip to see what it can run the quarter-mile in. While SRT continues to hem-haw around releasing the official performance numbers of the new Viper, the folks over DragTimes were lent a Viper and pushed it to the extreme at Palm Beach International Raceway.
The best result obtained by the SRT Viper was scored when the sports car’s launch control system was on. This run turned in an 11.1-second quarter-mile time at a speed of 127.4 mph. During the same test, the SRT Viper ran from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.1 seconds, from 0 to 100 in 7.1 seconds and from 60 to 130 mph in 8.08 seconds.

For all the attention paid to a car’s looks and its accompanying performance credentials, a good sports car can sometimes go down to its color.
Mess that one up and you’re looking at an eyesore. Hit on it and you’re looking at a potential goldmine.
In the case of SRT, paint finishes play an important role in the overall package of the SRT Viper. Whether it’s the classic colors or more of the attention-grabbing hues, giving a car like the Viper the right color finish is a pretty important deal.
In this video, SRT takes us on an up close look at how it cooks up different colors in its "color kitchen.” It’s a task that sounds easy, but it’s really not. SRT stresses that putting in the right colors often involves meticulous detail that includes transforming computer-generated colors into paint samples and eventually spraying a whole car to see if the end results is right up to par with expectations.
Suffice to say, it’s a science that a lot of us take for granted. Fortunately, this video will show us that it’s far from an easy task.
In the grand scheme of auto sales, the majority of buyers will opt for the base model of any particular car, leaving the top trims for those clients with more money. However, it appears that this rule has been flipped on its ear in regards to the SRT Viper. According to SRT, who was as surprised as we are, almost 90 percent of the orders placed for the new Viper are for the more luxurious GTS trim.
To put this in perspective, the standard SRT Viper is priced at $97,395 and the GTS version is set at $120,395 – a massive $23k hike. For this extra scratch, customers get an increased level of luxury that includes: Sabelt seats wrapped in Nappa premium leather in black, red or caramel, lots of Alcantara, a standard 12-speaker sound system, standard navigation, red brake calipers, and advanced suspension and stability control systems.
Considering that SRT is also going to offer a Viper TA Edition, it is safe to say that the standard version won’t enjoy the success SRT initially hoped for, but these upper-level models should make up for it.
