The SSC Aero first appeared in 2004 under the name 'SSC Aero SC/8T'; the Ultimate Aero is a limited production version of the former, offering even higher performance. From various sources, only 25 Aero will ever be produced, but the sources conflict on actual models. Forbes Magazine rated SSC Ultimate Aero as the fastest American car. The base Aero model is priced from $239,000 US, while the Ultimate Aero would cost $654,500.

The Aero's styling includes the use of scissor doors similar to the ones found in Lamborghini cars. It extensively uses carbon fiber and titanium respectively for the bodywork and mechanical parts, keeping the weight down to 1233 kg for the standard Aero. In Aero Ultimate, weight is further reduced 1179 kg by marketing the navigation system, 10-speaker audio/CD/DVD system, video/DVD screen, and back-up camera as optional equipment; and removing air-condtioning and trunk space altogether.

Engine in base Aero model is a supercharged 6.2-litre V8 engine rated 787 bhp @ 6600 rpm and 736 ft·lbf torque @ 5800 rpm, while Ultimate Aero model has increased engine displacement and increased supercharger boost, resulting 1046 bhp @ 6950 rpm and 821 ft·lbf torque @ 6200 rpm. It should be noted that the Ultimate Aero requires 104 octane gasoline.

Although unverified yet, wind-tunnel testing indicates that the Ultimate Aero could reach between 260 (418 km/h) and 273mph (437 km/h) given appropriate transmission gear ratios. The base Aero, however, should reach 236 mph.

Despite its performance, Aero's fuel consumption is rated at 18 mpg city and 27 mpg highway.
