  A Station Wagon is a car body style similar to a sedan car but with an extended rear cargo area.

Our spy photographers confirmed last month’s rumor about Mercedes-Benz working on a brand-new C-Class to fill the gap between the C400 and the more powerful C63 AMG . This confirmation comes by way of a wagon version of the C450 AMG Sport stretching its legs in Germany.

Caught completely undisguised, the second-brawniest current-generation C-Class Wagon sports a more aggressive front bumper that doesn’t stray too far from the piece seen on the regular model and an AMG-style grille that carries just one horizontal bar.

Around back, the differences are less noticeable, with only a dual-exhaust system catching our eyes. The wagon also benefits from a different set of wheels that are similar to some we’ve seen recently from AMG. The "4MATIC" badge on the rear hatch suggests the C450 AMG Sport will arrive with all-wheel-drive.

Scheduled to hit the market sometime in 2015, both the sedan and wagon versions of the C450 will carry a twin-turbo, 3.0-liter V-6. This engine puts out 329 horsepower in the C400 model, so it wouldn’t shocked us to see the hotter C450 AMG Sport carry more than 370 ponies.

Polestar may be the most renown company in the Volvo modifying business, but these Swedish cars have gone through many workshops for visual and performance upgrades in recent years. One of them belongs to Heico Sportiv , a German venture that has left its fingerprint on anything from the compact Volvo C30 to the full-size XC90 SUV .

More recently, though, the crew located near the city of Darmstadt has been busy turning the V40 hatchback into a more nimble machines. Using various tricks, the Germans came up with the T5 HPC and V40 "Pirelli" , both outstanding in terms of performance and looks.

For 2014, Heico Sportiv decided it’s time to take the V40 Cross Country to another level and turn it into a crossover capable to take on rougher paths without losing its much appreciated driving dynamics. To achieve that goal, Heico started by raising the vehicle’s suspension by about 30 mm (1.2 inches) and designing specific shock absorbers and springs.

Volkswagen hasn’t confirmed if it will sell a Golf R wagon in the future, but it appears its engineers and test drivers are busy developing a hot grocery getter. Now just in prototype form, the Golf R Variant showed up at the Nuburgring track to practice its skills and give us a taste of what we may be getting in showrooms. Not surprising, the wagon borrowed many body details from the hatchback , including the more aggressive front bumper, the 19-inch wheels wrapped in low-profile tires and a quad-exit exhaust fitted below the rear bumper. Some of these features set it apart from the mule we’ve seen earlier this year .

There are no badges proving the wagon we’re looking at is the Golf R, but our spy photographers have confirmed that Volkswagen is indeed testing it on the Nordschleife before giving it the green light.

If the Germans decide to go ahead with the project, the Golf R Variant will most likely be powered by a turbocharged, 2.0-liter four-pot rated at 290 horsepower and 280 pound feet of torque. The wagon should take fewer than six seconds to sprint from 0 to 60 mph on its way to a top speed limited at 155 mph. The 4MOTION all-wheel-drive and the six-speed manual gearbox will come standard, while VW will offer the six-speed DGS as an alternative.

After numerous batches of spy shots received from our paparazzi located in Germany starting last fall, the Mercedes-Benz C-Class Wagon has been finally unveiled, showing us its brand-new rear end and additional cargo space.

Longer and wider than its predecessor, the new estates boasts a best-in-class cargo space when the rear seats are folded and comes with additional rear legroom and improved head room and shoulder room throughout the entire cabin.

Some of the details are still under wraps, but we do know that the wagon will receive most of the engines found in the C-Class Sedan . At least all the four-pots and a six-cylinder for the time being, with other options to be added later on.

Scheduled to spend its first weeks at the 2014 Leipzig Motor Show, the midsize estate will start hitting European showrooms in September. And unless you’re planning to move to the Old Continent over the next few years, there’s a big chance you won’t get to drive one because Mercedes isn’t too keen on bringing it to the United States.

There’s been a lot of action at the Nurburgring track this week, with both the 2016 BMW M2 and the Jaguar XE being spotted lapping the German course. The two have been joined by the upcoming Audi A6 Allroad , a vehicle previously caught testing in snowy conditions earlier this year, as well.

Although it hasn’t lost any of its camouflage since then, it’s more than obvious that the wagon has received a pair of new headlamps, while the front bumper and the large grille have been reshaped for a crisper appearance. The details are well hidden around back, but expect for the A6 Allroad to show up with redesigned taillights and a slightly updated bumper.

The only details that are out in the open are the large alloy wheels and the low profile tires; just a few more hints that the A6 Allroad means business in the performance department.

Speaking of performance, the existing gasoline engine will carry over unchanged, while the diesel mills will receive slight output increases, with the 3.0-liter TDI diesel to reach into 270-horsepower territory. Naturally, all units will burn less fuel and spew less CO2.

The new Audi A6 Allroad is expected to break cover at the Paris Motor Show in October, but make sure you stick around for further details.

The Volvo V60 Plug-In Hybrid sure made a name for itself in Europe last year, earning the distinction of being one of the best-selling hybrid-electrified vehicles on that side of the world. With the car’s success, it would’ve been a foregone conclusion to think that Volvo was going to take advantage of it. Well, how else do you describe the Swedish automaker’s decision to release the Volvo V60 Plug-in Hybrid R-Design?

Essentially, the Volvo V60 Plug-in Hybrid R-Design is a combination of two worlds for Volvo, one involving the car’s rather popular hybrid setup and another involving its, well, "sportier" R-Design side.

The latter doesn’t really move the needle for us, but the former sure does, enough for us to wonder whether this hybrid has a future in US soil. It’s unlikely at this point given how successful the model has been in Europe, but we’re still holding out hope.

After all, if Volvo has a mode this popular in Europe , wouldn’t it be a smart idea to send it across the Atlantic to see whether it has the make-up to equal its success in Europe?

Here’s to hoping Volvo shares our sentiments on that one.

Although the 2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Wagon — also referred to as the T-Model or Estate — was expected to make its official debut at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show , the grocery-getter didn’t show up in Switzerland, which points toward a Paris Motor Show reveal later this year. Despite the delay — the French event is more than five months away — the C-Class Wagon is pretty much ready to go on display, as suggested by the camo-free version that was spotted roaming the streets last fall.

Adding to the hypothesis are these new spy shots we’ve just received, depicting three wagons loaded onto a trailer along with sedan versions of the brand-new C-Class . The estates are still wearing a bit of camouflage, with their taillights, emblems and rear three quarter windows still hidden, but that’s not necessarily an indication that Mercedes is still working on the details.

There’s no info as to where the vehicles were being hauled, but it’s obvious that company has already started producing the wagon while preparing its official launch.

Volkswagen appears to be listening to the tiny, but obnoxiously loud, voices of the forum goers and automotive journalists. At this year’s New York Auto Show , they displayed this shiny new Golf SportWagen Concept with a new 2.0-liter TDI engine, three pedals and 4Motion AWD.

Hello, Beautiful.

This latest machine may have “concept” in its name, but there is very little about this car that won’t make it to production. Volkswagen has already stated it will be coming to U.S. shores as a replacement for the near ancient Jetta SportWagen. The new Golf SportWagen will provide a modern model for U.S. buyers that is underpinned by the new MQB architecture (the current Jetta SportWagen is actually still a fifth-gen car underneath).

VW has also confirmed the powertrain options will include the new 1.8-liter turbo gasoline engine and the updated 2.0-liter TDI diesel. Shifting will be accomplished by either a traditional manual transmission or a choice of automatics. What is not confirmed, and what makes this car a “concept” is that sweet 4Motion all-wheel drive system like you get in the Golf R . VW is stating that it may come, but no firm plans have been made yet.

The Vauxhall VXR8 doesn’t get nearly the same amount of love as the Audi RS6 Avant , or any of the equally powerful German estate models. But completely dismissing the VXR8 isn’t fair to the Vauxhall , something EVO found out first-hand during a recent comparison run between the two.

It goes without saying that high-performance estate models don’t get any better than the RS6 Avant. Audi is one of the pioneers of the segment and the latest RS6 Avant holds true to all of Ingolstadt’s capabilities in building a car that still runs incredibly despite carrying all that weight.

Ultimately, EVO found the RS6 Avant impressive given the standards Audi has set for it. But it didn’t possess the kind of "fun" EVO wanted out of its, which is saying something. The 1:26.5 lap time of the RS6 was impressive in a lot of ways, and certainly much faster than the 1:29.9 seconds the VXR8 pulled out of its hat.

But as far as entertainment value was concerned, Evo gave the nod to the Vauxhall not so much because its more fun to drive, but because you get a whole lot of raised heartbeats doing so. Audi has always been about efficiency, and it’s no different with the RS6 Avant.

If you listened to the Episode 004 of the TopSpeed Podcast , you’ll know that we all love the idea of Volkswagen creating a Golf R Wagon. While there are plenty of questions we don’t have answers to - will it be sold in the US, will it get more power to make up for the extra weight, will it even be affordable, etc. – one thing is certain, Volkswagen is making sure it will be blast to drive.

Just after we got our first spy shots of the Golf R Wagon sitting still, we now have photos of Volkswagen blasting this thing around the Nurburgring. Yes, that Nurburgring . Talk about having confidence in your cars.

If you missed the first post, the new Golf R Wagon will essentially just be a stretched version of the new Golf R . That means it gets motivation from a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine that is good for about 300 horsepower, and power is sent to all four wheels through Volkswagen’s trick Haldex-based AWD system.
