2011 Subaru Advanced Tourer Concept

Next to the production BRZ sports car, Subaru will also be unveiling the Advanced Tourer Concept at the upcoming Tokyo Motor Show. This concept is a revolutionary sports tourer that previews a new generation sports wagon and features an innovative exterior design and a new downsized direct fuel injection turbo engine.

The new Advanced Tourer Concept is defined by the company’s latest "Confidence in Motion" design language and gives the impression of a coupe style car. The concept’s entire roof is made of glass, while the inside layout features various elements such as wood and metal. The steering wheel includes a large monitor that allows access to maps, television, and internet services.

Under the hood, Subaru has placed a new downsized direct fuel injection turbo engine that the company says will help improve fuel economy drastically. It is a 1.6 liter engine equipped with a direct fuel injection system that injects the necessary amounts of fuel into the cylinders at appropriate moments, and a turbo system which efficiently supplies large amounts of air into the cylinders. The engine will be coupled with Subaru’s continuously variable transmission and to a Symmetrical AWD technology.
