Bentley Mulsanne Vision Concept

With Maybach out of the picture , it’s not surprising to hear that Bentley plans to expand its lineup and enter new segments. The first model to roll out looks like it will be a convertible version of the current Mulsanne . According to a report coming from Automotive News, if the model gets approved, it will hit the market sometime in 2015. In fact, we have already seen sketches of the Mulsanne Convertible in August 2012.

Next, there will be a new premium crossover priced at about $250,000. The new crossover will be built as a production version of the EXP 9 SUV Concept, and it will arrive on the market in 2016. Just like with all of Bentley’s future models, the new crossover will share its platform with other models from the crowded Volkswagen Group. In the case of the crossover, it will share a platform with Lamborghini, Audi and Porsche.

The last model to arrive will be a new-generation Bentley Continental . It will be built on the same platform as the Audi A8 and Porsche Panamera, and will be offered in the usual GT coupe, GTC convertible and Flying Spur sedan.

The Range Rover Evoque has quickly become the hottest-selling model in Land Rover ’s lineup and isn’t showing any signs of slowing down for 2014, thanks to a new release from the automaker. While all of the specifics of the 2014 Evoque are still unknown, Land Rover UK has outlined some of the technological advancements the model will carry into 2014 — we assume these will be a part of the 2014 U.S.-spec Evoque too.

The U.S. market receives the same 2.0-liter engine as last year’s model, which puts out a respectable 240 horsepower. These engines all link up to an all-new nine-speed ZF-sourced transmission, which has unperceivable shifts and wide spread of gear ratios to make for smooth acceleration and excellent fuel economy.

Also new for 2014 is the Active Driveline, which according to Land Rover is an "on-demand" four-wheel drive system that enhances agility and improves fuel economy, thanks to it deactivating the rear wheels at speeds over 22 mph. However, should the Evoque need that extra grip over 22 mph, the system takes less than 300 milliseconds to activate the rear wheels. Additionally, an E-Diff on the rear delivers Torque Biasing between the rear wheels for optimal traction and control.

Safety features also take center stage in 2014, as the Evoque will feature Park Exit to help you pull out of parallel parking spots; Closing Vehicle Sensing and Reverse Traffic Detection to warn the driver of traffic behind the vehicle; Lane Departure Warning; Traffic Sign Recognition; and Wade Sensing. Also included will be Land Rover InControl Remote to contact emergency services in the event of an accident or Land Rover Assist in the event of technical issues, and Land Rover InControl Secure to track the vehicle in the event of a theft.

And finally, there are a few aesthetic changes that include minor detail changes on the exterior, new colors for the interior, four new alloy wheels and revised :and Rover badges.

More details will come as we get closer to the model’s release in Europe in the third quarter of 2013.

Updated 9/12/2013: Land Rover has released all of the pricing details on the 2014 Range Rover Evoque. It starts at $41,995. See the full pricing details after the jump.

To be clear: you’ve seen this program before from Mansory at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show back in March.

But the Swiss tuner wasn’t content with building just one show-piece model of the Gronos program for the Mercedes G63 and G65 AMG models. So it built another one, and quite frankly, the model that’s being shown at the Frankfurt Auto Show is even more over-the-top than the one we saw in Geneva.

If you remember, the Gronos program back in Geneva sported a Magic Yellow paint finish, outlandish but not really too out-of-this-world. This one appears to come in naked carbon, with Mansory opting to show the newly designed bodywork in all of its ultra-light carbon glory. Notice also similar treatments done on the front spoiler, particularly the way the tuner positioned the LED daytime running lights and the front fairing that lays over it. Even the roof, the mirror housings and the decorative trims on the sides of the utility SUV exude the pure-carbon design without any coloring.

Moving inside, the modifications are a little more subdued, although still distinct enough to warrant attention. The dashboard, as well as the entire area of the center console, is completely redesigned, while various parts of the cabin are treated to a combination of pristine leather, fine wood and carbon-fiber details. With all these materials in play and subject to a customer’s whims and tastes, you can pretty much dress up your own G63 AMG anyway you want using only the finest materials available.

Like the first Gronos program that was showcased in Geneva, this one received a completely reworked 5.5-liter V-8 engine that’s been kitted with real racing components, a lot of which have been changed to go with a newly designed exhaust system. In the end, the G63 AMG Gronos now pushes out 840 horsepower and an electronically limited 738 pound-feet of torque. The 0-to-60 mph sprint is now estimated at just under four seconds, and top speed is now 175 mph.

For the entire program, vehicle included, Mansory is asking quite a pretty penny for the Gronos program to the tune of €1.1 million, which is about $1.4 million based on current exchange rates.

The production version i8 wasn’t the only unveiling the Bimmer had coming at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show , as BMW also threw together an X5 Security Plus — a concept specially designed to offer all-round protection against violent assault, kidnapping and organized crime.

The concept features high-performance steel moldings and panels that ensure the best protection, even against an AK-47. The 2013 Frankfurt Auto Show will play host to quite a treat from Jeep . Known for its plethora of special edition models, the American automaker is headed to the show with yet another limited-run offering.

Exclusive to Europe, the Jeep Wrangler Polar Limited Edition comes packed with new aesthetic features, both on the exterior and interior.

It’s not really that surprising, especially with Jeep because of its rather strong penchant of rolling out limited-edition models like nobody’s business. But there’s something really appealing about the Wrangler Polar Limited Edition. For one, it’s got some nice exterior changes that while subtle, still brings out an improved look and stance for the off-roader.

And then there’s the interior, which, is really something to see.

All these modifications, plus the choice of two powertrain options, gives the Wrangler Polar Limited Edition the kind of cache that could lead the vehicle to be a popular model once it hits dealerships.

Too bad it’s only going to be offered in Europe .

Porsche Macan

Porsche is busy testing the upcoming Macan , and it looks like with every test the crossover starts losing more and more camouflage. The latest test took place on the Nurburgring race track, and,as you can easily see, the prototype caught here is almost completely uncovered.

The only camouflage we can see is on the headlights — they are hidden under stickers in an attempt to make them bigger — on the small side windows and on the thinner taillights. Everything else is revealed in all its glory and it is now obvious that the Macan will look like its big brother, the Cayenne .

When it comes to the engine lineup though, the Macan will be a little bit different than the Cayenne. The base version will get a four-cylinder engine with 220 horsepower, while the Turbo version will get a twin-turbo 3.0-liter V-6 rated at 370 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque.

Expect to see the Porsche Macan at the 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show .

It’s hard to confuse the Land Rover defender for a modern-day all-road utility vehicle.

The aesthetics pretty much give it away off the bat. But even with the utilitarian façade, the Defender is still capable of getting a luxury treatment. German tuner, Startech, proved that with its latest program for the Defender , which is headed to the 2013 Frankfurt Auto Show .

The official details have yet to be revealed, but judging by the photos we’re seeing, the Defender definitely looks like its ready to dance at Frankfurt, packed with aesthetic and aero modifications, including a redesigned grille, a new set of LED headlamps and plenty of aluminum accents.

The interior is where the Defender looks to have leveled-up to become a true wonder of luxury. The wooden floors on the rear are a nice touch, as are the premium trims that seem to have been appropriately placed inside the Defender’s cabin.

Plenty of leather and Alcantara were also used inside the Defender, highlighting the contrast in personality the exterior and the interior of this utility vehicle.

More details are set to arrive once the Frankfurt Auto Show opens its doors. But we gotta say, this Startech program really captures our imaginations.

The fourth-generation Land Rover Discovery — known as the LR4 in the U.S. — was launched in 2009 and since then, it’s remained relatively unchanged. That’s all about to change, as for the 2014 model year the SUV receives a revised exterior look and more importantly, the old gas-burning V-8 engine gets the old heave-ho in favor of the new, 3.0-liter V-6 engine that is more fuel-efficient and delivers nearly the same performance figures.

For the 2014 model year, the Discovery receives a new front fascia that includes new, headlights, "Discovery" badges and bumper. Land Rover continues to offer the Black Design Pack, which updates the exterior look even further and adds new 20-inch alloy wheels.

The new Land Rover Discovery will be unveiled at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show and will roll into dealerships in mid-November.

The Grand Cherokee SRT is Jeep ’s real hero car, and the only one to compete effectively with the super-SUV benchmark from Porsche . The Jeep ’s drastic SRT makeover is arguably the most effective across the Chrysler range by blending the huge Hemi V-8’s torque with the sure-footed and quite advanced Grand Cherokee platform.

A change across the board from “SRT8” to “SRT” for all the performance trims prepares the range for its next generation of super and turbocharged SRT models - with forced induction making the SRT6, SRT4 etc cylinder counts much less meaningful.

The SRT conversion makes the Grand Cherokee one of the most entertaining models out of Auburn Hills, with all the track attitude and road muscle of the Viper but far fewer tradeoffs in daily driving.

As almost a totally distinct model from the Grand Cherokee range, the SRT version is new for 2014 with the latest interior tech upgrades, a new eight-speed auto transmission, and the tasteful headlight LED accents that were new this year on the base models.

Combined with the menacing nose graphic of the Grand Cherokee SRT, the additional LED lights update the nose appearance nicely. A black lower bumper shroud makes the SRT seem mean even with the lights off, with its 20-inch wheels and giant tires looking very prominent from all angles.

The real news with this latest Jeep is new launch control programming for the cutting-edge autobox that should offer an even quicker sprint than the last model’s 5.1-second rush to 60 mph. Smoothness, economy, and tow ratings are also all up across the board, making this Grand Cherokee SRT quite an appealing prospect for hot-rod SUV shoppers.

Will the loss of the "8" on the badge hurt its street cred versus the Range Rover Sport? Is the price premium and five-seat layout a problem versus the Ford Explorer Sport ?
