2010 Suzuki Bonneville Kizashi
 
When people think of racing, they typical don’t think of Suzuki. And if they do, it’s probably not the Kizashi that is on their mind, but a suped up race bike. Well, Suzuki wants to change all of that with their new special edition Kizashi that will compete in the Blown Gas Coupe category at Bonneville on August 14. The special edition Bonneville Kizashi gets a rigid structure, composed platform, suspension tuned on the famed Nurburgring, and available all-wheel drive system. The car is powered by a 2.4-liter, four-cylinder, 16-valve DOHC engine that delivers 500 wheel hp at 7000 rpm and 420 lb.-ft. of torque. It also gets a new intake manifold, a tuned ’long tube’ header, forged rods and pistons, a Turbonetics turbocharger, a new 3.5-inch exhaust, and full synthetic 5W-20 racing oil from Lucas Oil. It’s main target will be to hit a top speed of 200 mph. The Kizashi platform has been upgraded with the use of new coilovers, steel wheels seam welded, and speed-specific 15x7-inch Goodyear Front Runner rubber. An air dam has been added to reduce the air flow under the car and window straps and hood pins keep the hood and glass attached to the car. If the Suzuki Kizashi gets out of hand, there is always the parachute to bring it to an immediate stop. UPDATE 08/19/2010: The Bonneville Special just clocked an average run of 203.720 mph at the Bonneville Salt Flats, breaking the previous record of 202.301 mph in the Blown Gas Coupe category in the process! We’re guessing this isn’t the kind of start Suzuki was expecting with their new Kizashi sedan. Barely a year after the car was launched; it’s already facing its first recall issues. Not good. Not good, at all. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, a total of 5,701 Kizashi sedans – those that were manufactured from October 13, 2009 through May 31, 2010 - are poised to be recalled over issues with the center-lower glove box on the dashboard, which as it turns out, may open in the event of a crash possibly causing a potentially serious injury if it hits any of the front passengers. The Kizashi recall is expected to begin sometime in the middle of July at which time Suzuki will be replacing the part in question at no cost to the car owners. A few weeks ago we took a trip to a local bar to watch our hometown baseball team, the Cleveland Indians. Normally we would just go to the game because the tickets are pretty cheap, but even $5 is a bit much to watch a team that really stinks. Going into the game it was hard to get excited because we have won very few games and are in last place in the division, so needless to say, we weren’t expecting a whole lot. Amazingly though, the team did pretty well and even won the game. It wasn’t easy for them, but it was determination that brought them a well deserved win. The same can be said for Suzuki. It’s been quite some time since they have been anything to write home about, but after years of hard work and staying under the radar, they finally have a winner on their hands. The 2010 Suzuki Kizashi was one of those cars where you never quite knew what to expect. Sure, people have written that it was good and a step in the right direction for the company, but, like buying a generic brand cereal, you never want to believe the hype no matter what they tell you or how good it might be. The Suzuki Kizashi is a fantastic car from a company known for motorcycles rather than automobiles. It proved that the alternative Japanese automaker could produce cars just as good as its rivals; Honda and Toyota. Now, Suzuki wants to take the momentum earned with the Kizashi and create a sports sedan to rival the Honda Civic Si and the TRD division of Toyota. Called the Kizashi Turbo, this new variant, built on the base sedan, has a turbocharged four-cylinder engine, a new catback exhaust system, and an upgraded suspension producing 290 horsepower. It also provides enough room in the back for two and plenty of luggage space for a road trip. All in all, the new Kizashi is a big stepping-stone for Suzuki. After Suzuki unveiled the Sport version at the New York Auto Show, the company announced they will also prepare an even more powerful version. The production version of the Kizashi Turbo debuted on Speed Channel’s Test Drive program on April 30th, 2010. The Suzuki will deliver a total of 290 HP and will be connected to the track pavement via 19-inch Dunlops. The boost in speed is achieved by a 16G turbocharger and Road Race’s high flow intercooler. Road Race continues its quest for cool by adding custom fuel management, Road Race’s Sleeper blow-off valve, a velocity air intake and an extreme spray injector. The car will also feature sport springs working in combination with Kizashi’s ultra-rigid unibody and all-independent suspension. High-speed stability is enhanced with the addition of a rear-mounted spoiler supplied by Delta Tech Engineering. Suzuki unveiled the 2011 Kizashi Sport today at the 2010 New York Auto Show. The new version will go on sale in August and will be available exclusively in the GTS and SLS trim levels. The Kizashi Sport is distinguished by a more muscular front fascia (with chrome accents) and lower grille, body side sill extensions, lower body side molding with chrome accents, a trunk mounted spoiler, custom light weight 18-inch alloy wheels, a 10mm lower ride height for a combination of better aerodynamics, and a lower center of gravity for enhanced grip and sharper handling. The interior gets a distinctively designed sport steering wheel with perforated leather grip and contrasting stitching on the leather seats, shifter boot, and emergency brake boot. So why do we remember Suzuki? Aside from dirt bikes and recreational water vehicles, what else is out there? The Sidekick and the Esteem are the only models that come to memory, but what about the mid-size sedan category? Up until now Suzuki did not have a strong presence when it came to offering a product for this class, but times have changed and fortunately so has Suzuki’s prospect toward the mid-size sedan class. Enter the 2010 Suzuki Kizashi SLS, a very competitive mid-size sedan with the proper styling outside and comfort inside. This, much to our delight, is accompanied by a large array of features. At first glance the Kizashi appears more like a European sedan and is a bit smaller than most of the current competition, however, once you get past that you will note that the Kizashi is not only a suitable alternative for most European styled mid-sized sedans, but a great value as well. In an attempt to convince you that snowmen are not entirely what you thought they’d be, Suzuki is pitting them against their new Kizashi sedan in a not-so friendly machine versus nature tussle. The car advertisement, which is actually a follow-up of a prior billboard campaign, features the Kizashi sedan driving along a snowy road when it gets unceremoniously attacked by carrot-nosed, hat-wearing, evil snow men. In an attempt to rid himself of these snowball-throwing misfits, the driver does his best James Bond impersonation by swerving the car and making the two armies of snowmen collide into each other. Of course, Suzuki isn’t exactly showing-off the driver’s deft driving skills, but rather the Kizashi’s “best in class standard horsepower” and its” all-wheel drive traction”, which when you put together results in a highly-regarded premium class sedan that can give even the wickedest of weathers a run for their money. 2010 Suzuki Kizashi prices announced
Suzuki announced prices for the 2010 Kizashi sedan which will go on sale in December 2009. Prices will start from $18,999 for a well-equipped entry-level Kizashi S and from $21,749 for AWD version. The Kizashi SE FWD will range from $21,499 to $22,749 and the GTS version from $22,499. The prices for the SLS will range from $24,399 for FWD M/T to $26,749 for AWD CVT. The top of the line, the CTS AWD CVT will be priced at $24,849. Standard options will include: leather seats, power passenger seat, heated front seats, auto dimming rear view mirror with Homelink®3 Universal garage door opener, heated outside mirrors, automatic rain sensing wipers, automatic headlamps and rear proximity sensors. The Japanese automaker Suzuki has recently come out with the Kizashi compact sedan, and what better way to show off what the all new four door can be then to bring four highly modified examples to the world’s greatest aftermarket car show SEMA. The new Kizashi should feel right at home amongst a sea of modified Camaros and Challengers, not to mention a few Mustangs among others. Due to the new Suzuki’s affordable entry price, appeal towards the youth market and visually appealing design make the Kizashi the next great candidate to take over tuner duties from the Honda Civic.  The first modified Kiashi will come from engine tuners Road Race Motorsport and will feature a set of Carbontrix custom bumpers as well as an integrated rear diffuser. The body features a blacked out roof while hidden underneath the skin is a full racing suspension and a set of equally as capable high performance brake setup to complete the road racing theme. The second Kizashi scheduled to appear at the Las Vegas Convention Center comes from Delta Tech Engineering, who added a few bolt ons in order to extract a few more horse power. Their creation comes complete with an RK Sport body kit on the outside with a mix of LED and HID lighting while the interior is made up of Katzkin covered seats and a custom Kenwood stereo system. Westside Auto Group is coming out with a Suzuki Hayabusa inspired model, complete with numerous distinct touches to emphasize the Kizashi’s sporting lineage. The car is covered in a custom two tone paint scheme consisting of Napa Merlot and Bronzed Amber laid on top of the new body kit as well as shaved and smoothed sheet metal. The speed theme continues with a GT Super Car wing and a Yoshimura exhaust while the Westside Kizashi rolls around on a set of R-Worx 7-spoke wheels. Last but not least, Import Tuner will also be at the show with a hot rod Kizashi with a few high performance enhancements under the hood as well as a few cosmetic upgrades to complete Import Tuner’s own editorial visualization of the new four door sport compact.
