Toyota will unveil a facelift version of the European Auris at the Geneva Motor Show this March. Sales throughout Europe will begin from early spring.
The Auris 2010 features marked improvements in exterior style, perceived interior quality and ergonomics, but also a wide choice of clean engine technologies and a more refined driving experience.
The engine range will include three petrol and three diesel units offering the performance- and economy-enhancing benefits of Toyota Optimal Drive. Complemented by the Auris HSD’s full hybrid technology, this unique line-up will offer customers the most comprehensive range of powertrains in the C segment.
Toyota will unveil at the Frankfurt Motor Show the Auris HSD Full Hybrid, in its concept version, while the production version will follow next year. The car will be built in the UK at the company’s Burnaston factory. By 2020, Toyota hopes to have a hybrid version of each of their models on the market.
The Auris HSD Full Hybrid Concept is powered by a 1.8-liter engine combined to a Type Permanent magnet synchronous motor. The car can be driven either on petrol alone, or just electric, but also on a combination of the two. The petrol engine delivers 97 hp, while the electric motor powers alone for up to 1.25 miles (2km) at speeds up to 31mph, with zero fuel consumption and zero CO2 and particulates (PM) emissions.
The design of the Toyota Auris HSD Full Hybrid Concept reflects the installation of a full hybrid powertrain: the front end is designed to optimize airflow and so help maximise fuel efficiency. The front and rear bumper corners have flat surfaces, a feature that not only accentuates the car’s wide and solid stance, but also smooths the flow of air over the vehicle’s flanks, minimizing turbulence and drag.

In light of the British car industry’s continued struggle in keeping with the times, it is getting help from an unlikely source. It was recently announced that Toyota, the Japanese auto giant, is set to produce its new Auris hybrid in two UK factories, providing a much-needed boost to an industry that has continued a rapid nosedive since the global economic crisis began.
The two Toyota factories which will be tasked to produce Toyota’s new line of hybrid cars includes the one in Deeside, Wales and the other in Desrbyshire, North England. The former will be tasked to produce the engines for the cars and bring it to the latter location where it will be assembled.
It’s a welcome boost for the guys over at the UK, which has seen its auto industry get crippled by the downtrodden times. Toyota’s announcement that it will be producing the Auris in the country not only helps with the employment line, but also provides proof that the British auto industry is indeed moving forward in shifting its priorities to specializing in green technologies and producing vehicles that fit that bill.
