Toyota will unveil at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November a compressed natural gas (CNG) Camry Hybrid concept vehicle. According to the company the CNG is the prime energy-source for the future.

The benefits of CNG are currently being amplified by rapidly changing market conditions and an increase in consumer environmental awareness. At the same time its drawbacks include that advanced technologies will require investment in appropriate infrastructure. The U.S. CNG pipeline system is an approximately 1.8 million mile network and expanding.

Subaru of Indiana Automotive (SIA) and Toyota held a ceremony today to commemorate production of the plant’s first Toyota Camry. In March 2006, SIA parent Fuji Heavy Industries (FHI) and Toyota announced a collaborative agreement that would include Camry production at SIA. A $230 million investment gives SIA the capacity to produce 100,000 Camrys per year. Camry production will add 1,000 associates for a total of more than 3,200 at SIA. Toyota will launch a voluntary Safety Recall involving 160 2007 Camry Solara coupes. The curtain side airbag (CSA) front tether strap located in each of the front pillars may have been incorrectly routed. If the tether strap is not correctly routed, the front side of the CSA may not deploy as designed. There have been no accidents, deaths or injuries reported related to this condition. The Honda Honda Fit, Saturn Saturn Aura and Toyota Toyota Camry are the finalists for the 2007 North American Car of the Year award. Finalists for the 2007 North American Truck of the Year award are the Chevrolet Chevrolet Silverado, Ford Edge and Mazda Mazda CX-7. Toyota Camry Hybrid was named 2007 Green Car of the Year and Toyota Toyota dedicated the award to Dave Hermance, the company’s lead engineer on hybrid projects who died in a private airplane crash less than a week ago. The Camry Hybrid beat out four other finalists that included the Honda Civic GX, Lexus Lexus LS450H, Mercedes Mercedes -Benz E320 Bluetec and Saturn Saturn Vue Green Line.
