Rumors of the new Supra from Toyota have been circulating from mounths. With the Lexus GT 450 serving as the company’s halo sports car, Toyota would benefit by having a sports car that’s a bit more affordable. Wtih two performance machines in its stable, Toyota would no longer be viewed as simply a producer of reliable and green transportations appliance. There will be both coupe and convertible version of the car, probably introduced at the same time. The convertible is reported to have a folding hard top and is intented to be more of a boutique car than a serious sport car. The coupe, however, will be just that, eqquiped with a 5 liter V8 engine producing 450 hp and 383 lbs-ft of torque. This engine will not be available in the open-air model because of rigidity issues. It is said that when Toyota started development of the Supra, it was only a convertible hard-top form with 4.3 liter V8. Later in the process, Toyota opted to go with a more powerful engine. But with the additional came extra loads that the convertible couldn’t stand, so the company was forced to create a fixed-roof version of the car. The Supra’s suspension is one befitting that of a true sport car: upper ad lower A-arms up front and a multilink setup at the rear. No doubt the tuning of the shocks and springs will be different in the V8 and V6 models, but expect both version to be relatively firm. It is expected the V8 Supra to be priced about 50000$. The more affordable Toyota Supra (40000$) will come with a 3.5 liter V6, the same powerplant used in the Lexus IS 350 and GS 350, but tuned to produce more power: 350 hp and 275 lbs-ft of torque. Toyota will have a car that’ll eclipse the performance of the Nissan 350Z, Mazda RX-8 and Honda S2000. Look for the Supra to make appearance in October of 2007. 102 comments: Toyota Supra (6682) - Posted on 11.10.2006 As a big Supra fan myself I’am sorry to break this news to everyone but the fact of the matter is that Toyota has no attention of developing a Supra. Basically, these are all rumors and in reality Toyota hasn’t really announced anything. Lately I had the chance to speak with an high level Toyota official and he said "TOYOTA HAS NO ATTENTION OF BUILDING ANOTHER SUPRA SINCE THE LAST MODEL DRAMATICALLY FAILED IN SALES AND IT WAS VOTED OUT." And I asked what about the rumors? He said "Well, rumors are rumors and there are always out there." Sad to say, I believed him since all I have been hearing is just rumors and predictions of what the next Supra will look like and till this day really haven’t heard or seen anything solid from the company itself.
randy (6682) - Posted on 11.6.2006 i’ve heerd the plans for this thing got axed? is it on or off? anyone REALLY know the latest?
(6682) - Posted on 10.31.2006 WHY MAKE IT ALL WHEEL DRIVE SO IT WILL COST WELL OVER 75G SORRY I THINK TOYOTA IS DOING RIGHT BY THE LITTLE GUY. GT-R IS 400HP SUPRA IS 50HP SHY OF THAT AND YOU KNOW TRD WILL MAKE A SUPERCHARGER OR TURBO FOR IT AND EVEN THEN IT WILL STILL BE LESS THEN THE GT-R. DON’T GET ME WRONG I THINK IF I HAD 75G’S TO THROW ALWAY I WOULD BUY A GT-R TOO, BUT I DON’T SO SUPRA COMES OUT ON TOP.
Greg Derian (6682) - Posted on 10.30.2006 When a AWD Twin-Turbo V6 is offered, that can compete with Nissan’s upcoming GTR, then I will be interested. Otherwise what they are offering is a 2 door version of existing models.
(6682) - Posted on 10.29.2006 I’VE ALWAYS WANTED A SUPRA BUT NEVER COULD AFFORD ONE. I’VE BEEN A TOYOTA FAN SINCE MY FIRST TOYOTA A 1983 TERCEL. IF THE V6 IS PRICED AT THE MID 30’S I THINK TOYOTA WOULD HAVE HIT THE NAIL ON THE HEAD. I WILL BE PUTTING MY DEPOIST ON IT IN MARCH AFTER THE AUTO SHOW. TOYOTA WILL ONCE AGAIN RULE THE SPORTS CAR WORLD...SUPRA RETURNS!!!
Jair (6682) - Posted on 10.27.2006 Stick 450 horses into a 3200 lb car and this thing is gonna fly. The V6 is predicted to run 4.5sec to 60 so the V8 is going to be untouchable for the price Its gonna be the same as the Corvette Z06. You will get a lot more car than the money you are spending and the V8 Supra will probably challenge all but the best from Europe at fractions of the cost (6682) - Posted on 10.25.2006 put a picture of that "supra" next to a picture of the new ferrari 599 barchetta... strikingly close looks... almost too close. almost every vent, curve, line, and panel on one of the two cars has a look-alike on the other.. John (6682) - Posted on 10.22.2006 I absolutely love the car, and the performance however, it looks as if Toyota will price themselves right out of the competition and make the same mistake they made with the last one! I heard in Road and Track that the V6 model will be priced under the 350Z in the mid 30K range. That’s where they need to be!
LkcJai (6682) - Posted on 10.22.2006 I like the looks. But just reckon its abit, european’ish. Don’t get me wrong I’m not rasict i mean i love Saabs, but being a Supra, shouldn’t it have its hardcore JDM style behind it? But hey on the good side, I love its wide :P
