Europe’s best-selling pick-up with a segment share of 25%, the Toyota Hilux is now available with an improved 2.5 litre D-4D diesel engine for 4WD versions. Introduced to match the segment evolution, the 144 DIN hp diesel engine will allow Hilux to remain segment leader.

Toyota Hilux

Already renowned amongst professionals for its durability and reliability, and of ever-increasing appeal to leisure drivers, the Toyota Hilux is available with a choice of three body types –the Single Cab workhorse, the Extra Cab and the SUV-style Double Cab.

The improved 2.5 litre D-4D engine is available on 4WD versions of all three body types. Its power output has been increased by 24 hp to 144 DIN hp, and maximum torque has increased by 18 Nm to 343 Nm.

This power increase has been achieved through the adoption of a DC motor-actuated, variable nozzle vane-type turbocharger and the use of new injectors featuring Generation 3 Solenoid (G3S) technology. The new injectors offer more precise fuel injection, improving throttle response and performance.

Hilux is quite impressive for a pick up car, although it don’t have any so called awesome features, I still simply love the simplicity that it had.

They function very well for what they are and just because you love Toyota doesn’t make them magically better. Show me a truck that can compete with what an American truck offers, the Hilux is a different kind of truck. (It’d be cool to have em here, that’s for sure.). I have no doubt that a full size US "style" truck could do that trek without issue, I would love for Ford, GM or Dodge to try. Would the foreign Ford Ranger compete any better in your eyes?

This model is powered by the 2.5 D-4D engine and equipped with five speed manual gearbox and comes in 3 body styles.

@ adriansmith - IMO tundra is more powerful and agile than the 2009 Hilux, but still it can’t beat the Nissan Navara’s performance and reliability.

I’d say that next to Ford f150, hilux will be one of my favorites. Comparing the two of course Hilux has no edge in both design, performance and value but it is the next best thing not because its cheap but it performs well.

The improvement of this car seems quite good even on the gear changing speed.

hilux is versatile and very reliable pick up truck, it really amaze me that I has 24hp more and it can accelerate 0-60 in just 2.5 sec.? Is that true? This model is way far better than Hilux 2009 and better than Tundra and Sequoia series.

Why don’t we get this here in the states? It’s a nice step between the Tacoma and the Tundra.
