Press release

While addressing the needs of tomorrow’s motorists today through its drive towards sustainable mobility and the goal of the ultimate Eco Car, Toyota also continues to focus on customer groups who require vehicles with highly specific capabilities.

Having attracted over 5 million customers in 176 different countries since its launch, the Land Cruiser is one such vehicle. It has become an icon in the 4WD market, its name synonymous with Toyota’s worldwide brand values of outstanding quality, durability and reliability.

All-new Land Cruiser

Backed by almost 60 years of off-road heritage, Land Cruiser drivers accept no compromise. They expect their vehicles to perform perfectly in even the harshest conditions, offering superior driving performance and refinement both while serving as everyday transport and whilst operating in the very toughest and most demanding working environments around the world.

Building on this peerless pedigree, and key to the all-new Land Cruiser’s enhanced off-road capability, is the unique level of guidance and technical support it offers drivers. Several new, userfriendly functions not only make tricky sections passable in terrain where even the most skilful drivers might otherwise struggle, but also assist beginners with their driving technique.

Helping even unskilled drivers maximise the vehicle’s off-road performance, the unprecedented sophistication of these control and guidance refinements makes the all-new Land Cruiser one of the most technically advanced, yet safe, pleasurable and easy to use off-road vehicles in the world.

Toyota also acknowledges that style, comfort and on-road performance are equally important to many 4WD customers. Hence, the all-new Land Cruiser combines a full off-road capability with superior on-road driving pleasure and even higher standards of quality and comfort. No other 4WD can offer this unique combination of off-road performance and on-road dynamics.

Both three and five door versions of the all-new Toyota Land Cruiser are available with a choice of two engines: a 205 kW/249 DIN hp 4.0 litre Dual VVT-i V6 petrol engine or a 127 kW/173 DIN hp 3.0 litre four-cylinder turbodiesel. The CO2 emissions of both engines have been reduced by 12 %, and the turbodiesel returns a best in class fuel consumption of 8.1 l/100 km, and CO2 emissions of 214 g/km in the combined
cycle.

The rigidity of the all-new Land Cruiser’s highly durable body-onframe construction has been increased by 11%, and insulating frame-to-body mounts both absorb engine, drivetrain and road noise, while enhancing road comfort.

The front independent double wishbone and rear 4-link lateral rod suspension has been extensively revised to improve both ride comfort and steering feel. It is equipped with a new, electronically modulated Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System (KDSS), which optimises the effect of the front and rear stabilisers for enhanced performance both on and off road.

An Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS) system incorporating Roll Posture Control allows the driver to fine tune the all-new Land Cruiser’s ride characteristics with a choice of three damper settings. In conjunction with AVS, an electronically modulated rear air suspension system maintains optimum control of the rear suspension. Including an Auto Levelling function and a switchable Height Control function, the system also excels at absorbing high frequency vibrations to reduce road-generated NVH.

The four modes of Multi-terrain Select offers optimal driving support by automatically controlling power output and braking input depending on driving terrain. At the same time, a fourcamera Multi-terrain Monitor and a Steering Angle Display increase the driver’s awareness of his/her immediate surroundings and intended path.

Crawl Control with five different speed settings allows the driver to negotiate even the most extreme obstacles with maximum precision and control, without hitting the throttle or brake pedals. The system will also help drivers free the vehicle when stuck in deep sand or mud.

On board, both three- and five-door versions of the all-new Land Cruiser feature more refined and spacious cabin. Seven seat versions now feature second row seats with a 135 mm sliding range, a more flexible, 40:20:40 split/folding/reclining seat back, and a walk-in, slide and tilt function for third row access. The optional third row features two proper seats with integral headrests, which fold completely flat into the loadspace floor. The footwell floor has been lowered by over 38 mm for a more comfortable seating position, and the sliding second row seat function offers more than double the third row legroom of the current model.

Left and right hand seats may be raised and lowered independently, and an optional power function allows this to be done at the touch of a button. Controls are mounted both inside the tailgate and behind the second row seats on the passenger side.

The total flexibility of this three-tier seating is complimented by numerous practical storage spaces including a USB port compartment for the connection and simultaneous charging of iPods, and a large centre console box which may be equipped with a compact refrigeration unit.

The Land Cruiser’s all-new premium interior further benefits from a range of high-technology, intuitive, user-friendly systems designed to simplify and enhance life on board. A Smart Entry and Push Start System operate in conjunction with illumination for easier nighttime entry and exit. A top-hinged glass tailgate hatch gives access to the vehicle’s loadspace even in tight spaces. And a separate rear air conditioning unit equips the new Land Cruiser with triple-zone automatic air conditioning.

The steering wheel mounted multi-information switch consolidates a wealth of features into one switch, including extensive vehicle system customisation. And the cameras employed by the Multiterrain Monitor are also linked to Wide-view Front, Side and Back Guide Monitors for easy manoeuvring in the tightest spaces.

A top-of-the-range JBL Synthesis Premium Surround Sound system allows owners to enjoy perfect 7.1 channel surround sound on selected CDs and DVDs. It features an 11 channel, 605 Watt Digital Signal Processing amplifier and 17-speakers. Benefiting from the navigation system’s Hard Disc Drive (HDD), the JBL audio system also features a ‘Sound Library’ facility, using Compact Disc Data Base technology to transfer and store up to 2000 tracks recorded from CDs.

With standards of quality, reliability and durability taken to new heights, the all-new Land Cruiser not only meets, but exceeds its customers most demanding expectations. The result of nearly 60 years of technological evolution, the all-new Land Cruiser provides its customers with unrivalled refinement and even greater piece of mind, whatever the working environment, from Scandinavia’s Arctic Circle to the deserts of Morocco, and beyond.
