2011 Toyota FT-86 II Concept

While everyone was expecting to see the production version of the Toyota FT-86 sports car, the company has decided to tease us with yet another concept version of the car. Called the FT-86 II, the new concept made its debut at the Geneva Motor Show and, according to Toyota , it takes us a step closer to the final design of its next sports car.

Sin Sin ce Toyota has decided to aim its next sports car at younger buyers, they’ve stepped up their game with a more attractive exterior design. Although we are a little perturbed that we received a second concept instead of a production model, we have to say that the added work on the FT-86 II does make it look a lot better. Guess some extra hours at the drawing board paid off after all. As did the design inspired by the legendary 2000 GT which was first displayed at the 1965 Tokyo Motor Show.

Toyota may have had to bring out two concepts to get the design just right, but after being postponed more times than we would like, sales for the Toyota FT-86 will begin in Europe in 2012. Prices will start from around $25,000.

UPDATE 09/07/2011: With the Subaru BRZ Concept revving its way into the Frankfurt Motor Show, there was no way Toyota would be missing the opportunity to showcase the BRZ’s competition - the FT-86 II Concept. So, in true competitive fashion, Toyota will also be at the Frankfurt Motor Show with its "faster, lighter, and sportier" FT-86 II Concept. Check out the teaser video by clicking on the image above!

UPDATE 09/16/2011: A few days ago Toyota promised a new version of the FT-86 II Concept for the Frankfurt Motor Show, but the images Toyota has unveiled only show a new exterior color. Don’t worry Toyota, we know you’re in this thing with Subaru and we haven’t forgotten about the FT-86.

The new Toyota FT-86 II Concept features very compact dimensions. It is 4,235mm long, 1,795mm wide, and just 1,270mm high. Its design language is called "Functional Beauty" and its bold, sweeping form has been generated entirely through the constraints of function and aerodynamics developed from F1 technology.

Engine

The concept combines a free-revving boxer petrol engine with a 6-speed manual transmission with compact dimensions. The engine is light weight and has a low center of gravity to attain the best possible power-to-weight ratio. Both powertrain and driving positions have been set as low and as far back as possible to optimize balance for maximum poise, high speed stability, and dynamic agility.

Competition

Toyota FT-86 II Concept

The biggest competitor for the production version FT-86 will obviously be the Subaru FT-86 , a car that will share the same technology and engines, but will feature a different design. The advantage of the Subaru version will be the STI version powered by a 2.5-liter turbocharged flat-4 engine with an output of about 300 HP.

The list of competitors will also include models like the Nissan 370Z and the base version Ford Mustang . The Nissan 370Z gets a 3.7 liter V6 engine with an output of 332 HP at 7,000 rpm and 270 lb-ft of torque at 5,200 rpm. It is on sale with a starting price of $30K. The Mustang gets a 3.7 Liter six cylinder engine that puts out a total of 305 HP and 280 lb-ft of torque combined with a fuel efficient six speed automatic transmission. The muscle car is on sale at a price of $22,145.

Good thing that they have finally released this one. A lot of volks are actually looking forward to finally getting their hands on the FT-86, with the way that Toyota has hyped it up.

Certainly, this car will make it hard to sell for this type of image concept. Its quite heavy color black features that’s not necessary for the expectations of the demands of worthy costumers.

Toyota FT-86 concepts are well coordinating to its texture appearance and cool exterior looks, But I don’t have any idea if the total engine performance works so well.

FT-86 II concept that seems to be very fussy in style, Its exterior design that has a lot advantage to get you in the high edge of the road,In fact the fuel efficiency that put 332 HP at 7,000 rpm and 270 lb-ft of torque at 5,200 rpm..

Actually, this car will tempt you to its Functional Beauty" and its bold extensive form. Additional to its concise body measurement off 4,235mm long, 1,795mm wide, and just 1,270mm high.

This new production of Toyota FT-86 is kinda pretty cool and exterior design, that was truly amazing of its black color design.

The new Toyota version is like an incredible well made automobile,A capacity to explore and gives a very firm and smooth speed accuracy. Aside from this, the attractive exterior design makes it a unique from other oldest models of Toyota.

Yeah, i do agree that this concept is the most awaited in the Toyota line. I bet when this car is released the competition will not be that tough. Its competitor is less powerful compare to the FT-86 II.

Yeah you are right, they will likely focus more on the development of the full fledged petrol version of the car before moving to the hybrid. But that one would be a good move since it will help them further improve the car’s features.

I don’t think that the hybrid version of this one would actually come out soon. For one, Toyota would have yet to see if the FT-86 would actually sell.

Yeah, they should really work on the hybrid FT-86. That would definitely be a good alternative for those thinking that this car is too much of a gas guzzler.

If you look at it, with all those features that they have said would be included in the production model, it is rather inexpensive. This will be another big draw for the car.

I really hope that they would push through with the hybrid version for this one. I have been waiting for announcements on that one since I think it would be a great idea.

This one is definitely looking good for the FT-86. After its successful launch last year, more and more people are starting to get interested in the car.

Wow, A complete new look to the company’s regular. A better line-up for the Toyota fans. Enjoy the power of the new hybrid engine and the wonderful exteriors plus the tons of new features. Even the price is not that huge.

Wow! I think FT-86 has make a new face for the Toyota brand! This one look different from their usual production. I love its exterior and the color. I hope they made an immediate production for this one!

Well, as expected, the FT-86 is really looking as stunning as the first time it was unveiled. But is it true that they have implemented a hybrid engine into this one?

Yeah, it is likely that the hybrid version would be a bit less powerful than the regular. But I think Toyota would try to amp the engine output as much as possible.

Well, I don’t really mind that this one would be less powerful than other cars. But all the other features are certainly something that I am excited about.

Ah, the FT-86 II, this one is definitely a winner even if it has yet to see production. It has tons of useful features that will certainly be to the liking of fans. Good thing that they have already set the production date.
