2012 Toyota LMP1 Hybrid Race Car

The last time Toyota competed in the 24 Hours of Le Mans was back in 1999 when their racing car - the GT-One - successfully established a new race lap record, but also suffered a tire puncture in the final hour of the race. Thirteen years later, Toyota is announcing that they will be returning to the famous race in 2012, along with their new LMP1 race car. Their new racer’s chassis was designed, developed, and produced by Toyota Motorsport in Germany, and comes equipped with a hybrid petrol powertrain engineered by Toyota in Japan.

Tadashi Yamashina, Toyota Motor Corporation Senior Managing Officer and Toyota Motorsport Chairman, said: "Toyota has entered Le Mans before, but by using our hybrid technology this time will be a completely new challenge. We want to write a new chapter in the history of the Le Mans 24 Hours, as in the FIA World Endurance Championship, through our use of hybrid technology."

If the design of Toyota’s new LeMans racer looks a bit familiar to you, it’s because it looks eerily similar to their all electric EV Racer that just established a new record for electric cars at Nurburgring. Electric vehicles are not a part of LeMans, but we can’t imagine that the EV Racer wasn’t a point of inspiration for the Toyota LMP1 Race Car.

The Toyota LMP1 Race Car will make its racing debut at the 24 Hours of Le Mans on June 16th and 17th, 2012.

UPDATE 01/19/12: The first photos of Toyota’s hybrid LMP1 race car has finally surfaced on the Web. It’s right in line with what the initial sketch looks like, except that it comes with all the aerodynamic bells and whistles of a true LMP1 racer.

This race car really rocks. The engine performance of the car is powerful as well. I’m impressed of its attractive designs.

The Style was very futuristic in such a way it was very obvious. Yeah the style and its platform was very unique but it can’t be more interesting to used in a race tract.

Obviously, they don’t really have any plan to put it on the market, only on debut. However, I’m still hoping that they would change their mind! smiley Moreover, I love the futuristic design of this concept.

I have a doubt if Toyota could truly put this race car on the market. Well, they didn’t even announce if what will really be the price of this one. Anyway, I have to agree that it is so striking on its uniqueness.

This race car of Toyota is absolutely so unique on its platform and very aggressive on its styling. Well, I wonder, if what will be the interior of this one will look like? Hopefully also, they would really bring this one on the market.

I won’t really be so impressed with this one for the fact that it is a hybrid car, for a sports car like this, I didn’t believe that it will work on this one.

I have to agree with you mariamargaritta. This one seems not real! I just only hope that when they finally decided to put this one on the market, I hope that what we see is what we absolutely get. smiley

Are we talking about a real Race Car? It seems like this LMP1 Race Car is just a dream. See how the output of it became? Fantastic. That is all I can say. I love everything about it. Its like playing Tamia on your own hands while controlling the steering wheel.

Well, it really looks so great and fabulous platform but knowing that it was an electric car, I don’t know if I could still be impressed with it, and I wonder if what’s the interior features of this one.

This race car can surely catch lots of attention, the design that it had, will surely a stunning one among all race cars but so much for the looks, how about its figure performance? Was it goo enough for it?

This is a very cool design for a race car that Toyota has made. From looking at its exterior, I’m sure that it has a powerful engine there on the inside.

Toyota LMP1 was oozing with angst on its design. It looks so unique and aggressive either. Well, the initial looks of it really impressed me a lot. I just only hope that it also had an impressive figure performance.
