2012 Toyota Prius v

The second production version added to the Toyota Prius family is the new "v" version revealed at the Detroit Auto Show. With "v" expressing the vehicle’s versatility, the new Prius v will combine the practicability of a minivan with the hybrid drivetrain of a Prius hatchback model.

The new "v" version is built on the same platform as the first Prius, but promises a 50% space increase inside its cabin. The car also has a low 0.29 coefficient of drag, all while being produced in an evolutionaryPrius design.

The car is identical to its hatchback brother: the same exterior design language, the same hybrid drive train under the hood that delivers a total of 40 mpg, and the same technology for the interior that includes an Entune multimedia system which supports mobile apps such as Bing, OpenTable, and movietickets.com.

Exterior and Interior

Toyota Prius v

The car’s exterior look is defined by sharp-edged headlamps, wind-slipping aero corners for improved aerodynamics, and an enlarged under grille, which all help create a unique design evolving from the current Prius. The rear gets a refined backdoor panel, intricate combination taillights, and a specially designed roof spoiler that improves air flow.

The interior offers high seating position, ample head room, and an impressive 38-inch couple distance, providing generous rear legroom. A first for Toyota Toyota is a resin Panoramic View moonroof with power retractable sun shades that provides an open atmosphere in the cabin with a 40% reduction in weight as compared to conventional glass roofs of the same size.

Among the many technologies offered by the new Prius v is a new Entune multimedia system that offers fully integrated and wireless upgradeable navigation, entertainment and information services.

The Engine

Everything under the hood remains unchanged. Meaning the Prius v will get an 1.8-liter Atkinson cycle petrol engine that delivers 98 HP combined with an electric motor, for a total output of 134 net horsepower. The Prius v will deliver an estimated EPA fuel economy rating of 42 mpg city, 38 mpg highway, and 40 mpg combined.

When Can I Buy One?

The new Prius v will go on sale in late summer 2011. Prices will be announced closer to that date.

The Competition

Toyota Prius v

An obvious competitor for the new Prius v is theHonda Insight launched in 2009 at the Detroit Auto Show. The Insight is powered by an advanced 1.3-liter SOHC aluminum-alloy i-VTEC engine and CVT, along with a new generation of Honda’s IMA hybrid system that incorporates a 13 hp electric motor and a compact Intelligent Power Unit (IPU). The Insight is on sale at a price of $19,800.

LOVE IT
  • Impressive fuel economy
  • Looks good enough considering its a hybrid
  • Entune multimedia system
LEAVE IT
  • Not enough power for a minivan
  • Much more expensive than competitors; considering it will cost more than the hatchback
  • Overall interior look is outdated

I love this hatchback of Toyota. Well, I thought it is an SUV because on its platform. Anyway, I must say that this one really looks impressive inside and out but too bad it is one the unreliable vehicle.

Prius V is really an awesome SUV even though it is only on a simple detailing and styling. However, I don’t like the fact that it is on an electric motor. Well, I hope that it would be also available with a gasoline.

Prius V is so simple on its exterior appearance but when it comes into its interior, I must say that it recovered its simplicity, and I’m really so fond with the fact that it is very cozy and comfortable.

The spacious interior of this one is absolutely very striking on this minivan, and I love the fact that even it is a coupe for 2012, it is still so simple but very appealing and reliable on the road.

Wow! What an impressive hybrid car! Well, I love the fact that it is so ideal as a family van, but I must say that I’m not really into this one because it’s one of the unreliable cars that they were producing.

Toyota Prius V is so impressive despite of having a simple platform and design, and I love the fact that it is ideal as a family van. The interior is the plus factor on this van, seems so spacious and relaxing.

The interior is simply awesome and fabulous on its amenities and interior features, and I also noticed that it is also a cozy and relaxing car.

The handling seems so nice even the dashboard looks so awesome! As for the exterior design, well it’s quite impressive though the platform seems so ordinary.

Oh!I really love the luxurios interior of this Prius V, the dashboard is so awesome! A very entertaining car, that everyone would love to have.

I wonder what is the meaning of the system entune multimedia. I would say that the boost of the car is not that impressive compare to other hybrid cars. The only good thing on this one is the efficiency in terms of fuel.

It is good news that Toyota had their own version of a hybrid car. I must be impressed with the fuel economy on this prius and with the multimedia system that they add on is so cool. I found it cute, for having a simple design.

I think the regular version looks better and performs better than the hybrid version. I think they should upgrade how it looks!

hmm. Looks so boring!Well, its a good thing that its fuel economy but aside from that no more good on this car!

Well, it reminds me of the Innova. BTW, I’m not against hybrid cars but i don’t this concept is reliable especially those electric cars. I had a doubt on this kind of cars.

For practicality alone, I would definitely go for the hatchback version. That extra space on the back will certainly come in handy for carrying a lot of stuff in my line of work.

So much for the “v” which stands for versatility, the interior looks so outdated.
How I wish they bother to make this car good looking. Though it’s fuel efficient it’s still expensive compare to its competitor.

Prius V has more improved tailights, I like the designed proof of this vehicle. It’s very conventional and ideal. This version has its own versatility.

One thing about the Prius that I really like is that it really never gets stale, even after several versions. Add to that the fact that Toyota is continuously improving on the hybrid system.

The Prius v will deliver an estimated EPA fuel economy rating of 42 mpg city, 38 mpg highway, and 40 mpg combined. The great capacity gives a great performance..nice..

The new Prius v will go on sale in late summer 2011. Prices will be announced closer to that date. When can i buy one?
