2013 Toyota GT-86 TRD UK Special Edition

The Toyota GT-86 TRD Special Edition took a little trip to the Goodwood Festival of Speed earlier this month to say hi to the British folks. Turns out, it’s going to do a whole lot more than that now that Toyota has announced a special UK edition of the Japanese sports coupe.

It’s limited only to the UK, which means that those boys across the pond has another reason to brag to us here in the US. But we’re not complaining - at least not yet - and we’re sincerely happy for those chaps, especially since they’re getting one heck of a car.

The GT-86 TRD UK Special Edition won’t receive any performance modifications - it retains its 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine with 200 horsepower - but what it gets are a variety of aerodynamic upgrades, including a lower front spoiler, aerodynamic ‘fins’, wide see skirts, a larger wing, and a new diffuser. In addition, Toyota installed a new and adjustable suspension system, thicker anti-roll bars on the front and rear, improved disc brakes - 355 mm in the front and 345 mm in the rear - vented rotors, and a new exhaust system that produces better response times.

Completing the extensive add-ons are a new set of 18" forged aluminum wheels wrapped in Michelin tires, a carbon suspension strut brace and a TRD-badged oil filler cap, a red starter button, and a new set of sport bucket seats in the interior.

Needless to say, it’s a car that we’d love to see here on our roads, but can’t because of it’s UK exclusivity. Guess those boys will be getting to fight over it at the start of next year when the cars go on sale.

As for us, we’ll be licking our chops to see if we get the same kind of digs from the Scion FR-S .

UPDATE 02/10/13: The UK version of the TRD-tuned Toyota GT86 ($49,800) has been priced at £31,495 for the manual transmission and £32,995 ($52,000) for the automatic version. Only 250 models will be made available with sales beginning in the 1st of March!
