Gazoo Racing from Japan is working on a couple of special cars for the 2014 Tokyo motor show . As you may already know, Gazoo Racing has been an active presence in the motorsport scene, as it has also raced in the Nurburgring endurance races among others.

Apart from the other concepts the team has produced over the years, Gazoo Racing will bring a very special, custom Toyota GT86 to the Tokyo auto salon.

The custom Toyota GT86 by Gazoo Racing will be revealed on January 10, 2014. We tried to snoop around for some more information about the upcoming sports car , but sadly, the company hasn’t provided any more details about it.

The Gazoo Racing concept will feature a large rear wing shown here in the teaser image. It could also get a full body kit and minor aerodynamic tweaks. Lightweight racing wheels with larger rotors for improved braking and handling performance.

We are waiting for Gazoo Racing to formally announce the 2014 Toyota GT86 concept, and until then, we could only speculate as to what upgrades could end up on the new car. We will be updating this story as and when the official information is out.

BMW i8

The partnership between Toyota and BMW has been reported ad nauseam in the past few months but both companies have remained tight lipped on what kind of collaboration its going to be.

But that’s not the case anymore after a high-ranking BMW exec essentially confirmed and described the collaboration between the two brands. Speaking to the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, BMW development chief Dr. Herbert Diess essentially laid out all the cards on the table, detailing what a lot of us have suspected for a while now before throwing out a caveat that gave us a clearer picture of what we can expect with this partnership.

"We have agreed on a joint architecture for a sports car," Diess said, before adding that "there will be two different vehicles that are authentic to the two brands."

So...the Toyota -BMW technological dance will give way to at least two models, one carrying a Toyota badge and one carrying a BMW badge. That’s cool and all, but with that piece of information all but confirmed, the onus now turns on exactly what kind of models these vehicles are going to be under their respective brands.

Could it be that we’re in store for a successor to the Lexus LF-A or the long-awaited return of the Supra ? On the flip side, maybe a new BMW sports car that will be a class above the Z4 , or something along the lines of the new i8 ?

A lot of potential models are in play and its exciting that we’re going into 2014 with all this speculation on what kind of offspring the Toyota and BMW marriage is going to have.

If you look into the history of the Toyota brand, the Land Cruiser has been around for more than half a century. It has long proven how capable it is on whatever terrain you throw at it. Where a Range Rover would fall apart, crying out for for maintenance, the Land Cruiser would continue to do its job. When it comes to reliability, the Japanese sure do have some secret formula.

For the 2013 model year, Toyota gave the Land Cruiser a mild makeover. New styling elements were added upon an already awesome-looking machine. The interior too was overhauled, with more standard features than before, while a rather potent V-8 engine provided the muscle required to take on the worst of rugged terrains. Added safety features and driver aides all made it easy to drive.

For 2014, Toyota has made subtle changes to the Land Cruiser . It still boasts the 5.7-liter, V-8 engine and a handsome-looking exterior, but the automaker has now standardized all optional features into one attractive package. So, the 2014 Land Cruiser will be available in just one trim level.

We haven’t seen or heard a lot from Romeo Ferraris in quite a while, but even though the tuning company has kept quiet since it introduced its program for the Fiat 500 Abarth Cinquone Stradale last year, it’s hard to completely forget about these guys, especially with its reputation as one of Italy ’s finest aftermarket companies.

But now, Romeo Ferraris is back and it marked its return with an impressive program for one of the most popular sports cars in recent history: the Toyota GT 86 .

In some ways, it’s the perfect car for Romeo Ferraris can get its hands on. In its standard guise, the GT 86 looks every bit of a sports car, yet it somehow lacks the powerful performance credentials that its distinct and sporty style deserves.

That noticeable shortage of power is why aftermarket companies like Romeo Ferraris love the GT 86; they can put their imprint on it without comprising the overall characteristics of the Japanese sports car and do so in a way that gives the 86 that much needed boost in engine output.

That’s where Romeo Ferraris comes into the picture. Using a new supercharger, an intercooler and a subsequent ECU remapping, the Italian automaker was able to churn up 258 horsepower and 191 pound-feet of torque worth of output form the car’s 2.0-liter inline-four engine, a significant uptick in power from the stock 200 horsepower and 151 pound-feet of torque.

Romeo Ferraris didn’t release the performance numbers, but with these upgrades, it’s not far out of the imagination to think that this GT 86 is now capable of hitting 60 mph in 6.5 seconds to go with a top speed of about 140 mph.

When the going gets tough, it’s time to summon the Toyota Land Cruiser . When it comes to go-anywhere ability, the only vehicle that has managed to stand its ground against the Land Rover is the Toyota Land Cruiser, which in itself has earned a legendary status. For the year 2013, Toyota updated the Land Cruiser with added standard features and a styling overhaul.

Now, for the year 2014, Toyota has brought an evolutionary design change to the Land Cruiser. It may look different, but underneath it still is more or less the same burly, all-wheel-drive SUV with loads of features and creature comforts.

Like most heavy-duty off-roaders, the 2014 Land Cruiser is based on a body-on-frame platform that gives it added strength to take on the roughest of terrains the world can throw at it.

Over the past 60 years, the Land Cruiser has evolved from a manual select, all-wheel-drive utility vehicle into a luxurious SUV packed with the latest electronic aides, cameras and safety features. Has the addition of computer programs and guidance systems made exploring the farthest reaches of this planet child’s play? Lets find out.

The tremendous amount of publicity being showered on the Vision Gran Turismo concepts are well deserved. After all, it’s not everyday that you see automakers from all over the world sign up for such an unprecedented project of designing video game exclusive concept vehicles.

Excluding what has already been unveiled — the BMW and Mercedes concepts — some of the other brands participating in the project have provided teasers of their own through Sony, preparing us for what will eventually be an onslaught of concept awesomeness.

Yesterday, Toyota added its name to that hat, releasing a shadowy teaser of its Vision Gran Turismo Concept , featuring a pretty sick silhouette that comes with a huge rear spoiler, a sweeping hood, a long-flung roof, and what we imagine to be a car riding pretty close to the ground.

Toyota has given no indication on when it plans to reveal its Vision Gran Turismo Concept. But since we like speculating on these things, we’re hoping to see Toyota follow Mercedes’ route when it revealed its own concept at the LA Auto Show .

And wouldn’t you know it, the North American International Auto Show is a little over a month away from opening its doors. What better way to steal the show than the to bring this concept and the reborn Supra , right?

Hold on to your seats, fellas. That Toyota -BMW partnership may give birth to its first (concept ) model pretty soon.

It’s been widely believed that the tie-up between the two companies would spawn a variety of performance models, including one that would mark the return of the beloved Supra .

Well, according to Autoblog, it appears that our wishes are about to be answered at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show when the Toyota Supra Concept officially makes its debut. Christmas is still two weeks away, but this is about as cool as an early holiday present to have if you’re a fan of the Supra.

Neither Toyota nor BMW have confirmed this rumor, but for what it’s worth, this is the closest we’ve come to an official date to see the return of one of Toyota’s most beloved models.

Everything really points towards the return of the Supra, too, because a number of Toyota bigwigs have made it known that they want to see the model, or at least a worthy successor to it, return as soon as possible.

Should the NAIAS be the setting for this highly anticipated comeback, expect the Supra Concept to be one of the most talked about models at the event, possibly even for the entire year.

The sudden death of actor Paul Walker came as a massive shock to all of us. Popularly known as Brian O’Connor, his contribution to the Fast & Furious series will always be cherished in the hearts of his friends, family and fans alike.

Walker played the character of an undercover cop turned road racer in the movie and starred alongside Vin Diesel (Dominic Toretto). The first installment of the movie featured some of the greatest tuner cars of the 1990s and one such car that caught everyone’s attention was the MK IV Toyota Supra.

One of the most famous scenes in the movie was the drag race between the Supra (driven by Paul Walker) and Vin Diesel in his 1970 Dodge Charger R/T , which nearly ended in a dead heat, but not before some intense high-speed action involving a freight train at a railroad crossing and some serious air time.

We take a look at the orange Toyota Supra that rose to fame thanks to its role in the The Fast and the Furious.

Anytime you have a car, even if its a concept, that promises a maximum range of 310 miles, you immediately have to give it the attention it deserves.

At the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show , Toyota has a concept that promises as such, although how much of it will translate to the production model is still a matter of discussion.

The concept is called the FCV Concept, a conceptual successor to the FCV-R Concept we saw two years ago in Tokyo. The new FCV Concept is a lot closer to production than its predecessor with Toyota expected to release the vehicle in the next few years.

As far as the concept goes, the styling is a dramatic improvement from the FCV-R Concept. It still doesn’t look good as we’d like, but the large vent on the front, the stylish headlights configuration, and the unique grille setup makes for a front end that actually looks pretty interesting.

In terms of its dimensions, the FCV Concept is surprisingly robust, measuring 191.7 inches long, 71.25 inches wide, and 60.4 inches high with a wheelbase of 109.44 inches. All that allows enough space for the interior to comfortably sit four adults, which is a good thing for a car that promotes itself as a long-distance people mover.

Ok, so here’s where the FCV Concept gets interesting. It’s far from powerful, as it’s powertrain features a pair of 70 MPa high-pressure fuel stacks, which have a power output density of 3 kW/L and a minimum output of just 100 kW, which is about 134 horsepower based on conversions. All that does, though, is give the concept a whole lot real estate to cover, thanks to its maximum range of 310 miles.

Ultimately, the fate of the FCV Concept will be determined by how much it lives up to its range claims. It if it can come remotely close to approaching it, then Toyota has a winner on its hands. If it doesn’t, then it’s back to the drawing board.

The Tokyo Motor Show has been full of excitement and interesting new designs, but one bit of bad news has surfaced: Subaru’s brand chief Yasuyuki Yoshinaga dismissed the idea of a convertible Subaru BRZ.

[Automotive News] has reported that Yoshinaga wasn’t too fond of Toyota ’s drop-top concept displayed at Tokyo, saying his engineers believe the chassis would require a complete redesign in order to safely create a convertible BRZ.

Unfortunately, the lack of Yoshinaga’s blessing spells doom for Toyota’s attempts at building the car even without Subaru. Yoshinaga is also president of Fuji Heavy Industries, the parent company that owns Subaru and manufacturer of both the BRZ and FR-S . “We make the car, so if we don’t make it, it can’t happen,” says Yoshinaga.

With that sort of nail in the coffin, it seems unlikely a convertible FR-S or BRZ will ever appear – at least in the car’s current generation. Perhaps when the car’s second generation rolls out, Fuji Heavy Industries will have accounted for the heavy interest in the roadster. Yoshinaga himself knows the market is ripe for the car, "I understand well that Toyota Toyota is receiving strong requests from the American market for the car," he said. "But the biggest challenge is meeting our internal safety standards. There are big technical difficulties."

Perhaps a bigger issue of concern is the apparent inter-company quarreling happening over the convertible idea. Toyota, the company responsible for the overall design of the BRZ/FR-S cars, seems adamant about the idea and has toted several convertible FR-S concepts around to other car show around the world, while the President of the manufacturing company and brand chief of Subaru, responsible for the powertrain and underpinnings of the cars, is dead set against it. Such an open and publicly played out situation cannot be good for future product development.

Lets just keep our fingers crossed that Toyota’s desire for a chopped-top FR-S doesn’t put the entire FT-86 project on the chopping block.
