Toyota is expanding its Corolla lineup with the addition of two new special editions based on the LE and S trim levels. The new Toyota Corolla LE and S Special Edition will be limited to 7,500 units (2,250 LE models and 5,250 S models) and will be priced at $20,550. The model will be available starting April.

The LE Special Edition will be offered with a unique Black Currant Metallic exterior color and will sit on 16-inch alloy wheels. For the interior, the model will add heated, Beige-leather-trimmed seats, and Display Audio with Navigation and Entune. "Special Edition" floor mats and exterior badges will remind you are driving a Corolla that’s just about as special as they come from the factory.

For the S version, Toyota will include a unique Hot Lava paint and 17-inch alloy wheels. The model will also come standard with sport fabric seats and Display Audio with Navigation and Entune™. Just like with the LE version, the new S Special Edition gets "Special Edition" floor mats and exterior badges.

Marangoni Tyre used the 2013 Geneva Motor Show to reveal its latest creation: the Toyota GT86-R Eco Explorer. The tuner finds theGT-86 sports car just perfect from factory, but it wanted to offer it that unmistakable Italian style that transformed the car into something unforgettable.

The new Eco Explorer has been defined as the "quintessence of elegance, fashion and sport, but also environmental-friendliness." The tuner uses an innovative ammonia fuel technology by Bigas International that delivers "zero emissions.”

Per the tuner, one liter of ammonia costs just 20 cents, and with a full tank, the GT86-R can travel up to 180 kilometers (111 miles). At engine speeds up to 2,800 rpm, the car travels on ammonia only, and at greater speeds, the car switches to direct-injected gasoline.

The car will be offered with a special set of flame-red 19-inch tires called "M-Power EvoRed". These special tires were developed using the third-generation functionalized polymers that offer a better interaction between silica and polymer. This way the car delivers a class-B rating for rolling resistance and class-A rating for wet braking.


One of two concepts based on the new-generation RAV4 brought to the 2013 Geneva Motor Show is the RAV4 Premium. This second concept was developed to prove that the crossover can deliver added sophistication.

The new RAV4 Premium features a cool Deep Bronze finish on both the exterior and the bumpers. The car’s bronze is combined with chrome insertions on the redesigned bumper and brushed aluminum skid plates. For the exterior, Toyota is also offering horizontal lines for the front and central grille display, large air intakes, a stylish chrome-finished spoiler with LED lights and 20-inch alloy wheels.

The concept’s interior has been designed by Toyota’s Kansei design department. It includes luxurious leather upholstery in the cabin, sports seats with new black piping and two-tone double stitching in several areas of the interior. The instruments and door panels are wrapped in a combination of grey and black leather.


Most of the auto makers that did not prepare any major updates for the 2013 Geneva Motor Show, decided to come at the show with either special editions of their current lineup or some cool concept cars. One of these makers is Toyota which unveiled three different concept cars that will "amplify different aspects of the cars’ styling and capabilities" in Geneva.

The first is the RAV4 Adventure - a concept car specially developed to reinforce the RAV4’s off-road capabilities. The concept features a striking dark-red exterior paint combined with matte paint on the redesigned front and rear bumpers. The front bumper features an integrated under-run, while the rear one is redesigned to fully integrate the twin exhaust pipes and a reworked skid place.

The concept is also equipped with extended wheel arches that suit the 20-inch alloy wheels perfectly. The concept’s aggressive look is further accentuated by machined roof rails and dark-tinted privacy glass.

Toyota FT 86 Open Top Concept

Yesterday, at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show, Toyota unveiled the open-top version of its new GT86 sports car . Of course, everyone expects to see this version put into production very soon. What now looks like a certain thing was once pretty uncertain; maybe this is why Toyota opted to initially offer a concept version first.

According to Toyota chief engineer, Tetsuya Tada, the company would only think about other variants after the GT86 proved itself a successful model. Now that it has shown its worth and an open-top concept is upon us, it looks like more versions are inevitable.

It looks like along with the convertible version, the future will also bring a more powerful version. He suggested that such a model could use a hybrid system similar to the "IMA" system used on the Honda CRZ. This is a potential suitor because an electric motor assist could provide substantial low-rpm torque boost for the boxer engine without affecting throttle response, fuel economy or emissions.

Since such a system will add a considerable weight, Toyota engineers will have to look for solutions to reduce the final weight so it does not affect the weight distribution. Fortunately, TRD has had no issue removing 100 kg (220 pounds) from the GT86, so dropping the necessary poundage shouldn’t be too tough.

Whether the Toyota GT 86 has the long-lasting popularity that the Mazda MX-5 currently enjoys is still debatable at this point. After all, the former’s only been alive for a little over a year, while the latter has been around almost 25 years now.

But the early returns on the GT 86 have been very promising, a testament to the kind of popularity Toyota’s sports coupe has enjoyed in its short lifespan. It’s become such a hit that the clamoring for a convertible version has been deafening for a while now.

Well, Toyota listened, fellas. The 2013 Geneva Motor Show will see the debut of the concept version of a convertible GT 86, which Toyota is internally calling the FT-86 Open Top Concept. It’s called the FT 86 Open Top Concept and Toyota has gone on record suggesting that the model "previews a possible future development of the award-winning FT 86 sports coupe" with the intention of gauging the public’s reaction on how an open-top GT 86 will be received.

Incidentally, Toyota also said that a prototype for the convertible FT 86 is already being tested so we’re not entirely sure what Toyota meant about "gauging the public’s reaction." With tests in progress, that appears to be a rhetorical statement.

Toyota’s participation at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show involves the debut of two new concepts, one of which, the GT 86 Open Top Concept , is understandably getting all the attention.

But don’t sleep on the other concept because chances are, at least in the future, you might find more of these bad boys out on the road.

It’s called the i-Road Concept, Toyota’s zero-emission concept study of a future city car. Not a whole lot of details were divulged, but the automaker did say that the concept will be come with a 1+1 tandem-seating layout.

It’s a compact, fun, and emission-free personal mobility concept that doesn’t look all that impressive - it reminds us of a fly, unfortunately, but it does come with future tech that will probably be of good use as the world shifts toward a more eco-friendly approach to living.

In any case, we’ll have more info surrounding the i-Road concept when it makes its debut at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show.

The 2013 motorsports racing season is drawing closer and as such, we’ve seen numerous race teams from different series unveiling their respective race cars.

Toyota Racing is jumping on that trend with the unveiling of the modified TS030 Hybrid car, the same racer that Toyota will be fielding in the Le Mans 24 Hours and the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) this season.

The 2013 TS030 Hybrid race car carries a number of modifications from the 2012 model, particularly the revised version of the hybrid system first used in last year’s race car. With new regulations set to be enforced in 2014, Toyota Racing went to work early in fine-tuning the overall racing characteristics of the RS030, particularly the engine, which for the 2013 model will feature a 3.4-liter, normally aspirated V-8 engine that produces 530 horsepower and the matching super capacitor-based system that delivers 300 horsepower of boost to the car.

Needless to say, a lot is riding on Toyota Racing to deliver results this year. They’ve got the car that can get it done and it’s only a matter of time before the team can justify the preparations they’ve done in the off-season with actual race wins.


In the beginning of February, Toyota announced it would unveil a GT 86 Open Top Concept at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show. Nothing too shocking, considering everyone figured the sporty Toyota was going to eventually get an open-top variant .

The craziness start here, as one very lucky guy managed to catch this GT 86 Convertible somewhere in Cape Town, South Africa and as you can see, this car is completely uncovered. The car was closely guarded, but the temptation was too big we guess, so this he managed to shot three images of the car.

Now we are wondering why Toyota decided to come with a concept variant when the production version is also ready. We’re just hoping it won’t do the same as it did with the coupe version and will show us a bunch of concepts before actually revealing the real deal.

We guess we will find more about it next month in Geneva.

When it comes to the possible Toyota Supra successor, we have heard all kinds of rumors, including the possibility that it may be all-electric. Now, MotorTrend magazine has some different rumors for us: they suggest that the new Supra will be in fact a hybrid sports coupe.

The new Supra may be the result of the new cooperation between Toyota and BMW , and will be built on the Toyota GT86 platform which could also be used for the BMW Z4 successor. While the GT86 uses a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, the new Supra could use a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder hybrid engine with an output of about 400 horsepower, while a 3.5-liter V-6 hybrid powertrain is still a possibility.

On the exterior, the new Toyota Supra will be inspired by the FT-HS hybrid concept car unveiled at the 2007 Detroit auto show.

The new Supra is expected to be unveiled late in 2017, and a first concept version may be announced this year at the Tokyo Motor Show.
