While the new Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport has just entered the Guinness Book of Records with an average top speed of 267 mph, a new 2,000 horsepower supercar is about to become the fastest supercar in the world.
If you’re not yet familiar with the name TransStar Racing, then you might to start to get acquainted with these guys.
TransStar Racing’s new pride and joy is called the Dagger GT, a car that’s capable of hitting a top speed of 300 mph. It’s based on the Corvette Cheetah, a mid-engine concept car that was penned by no less than industrial designer extraordinaire, Ivan Luccion.
To give prospective customers plenty of options to choose from, the Dagger GT will be offered in three versions: the first will be a hard-core racing model, the second being a street-legal comfortable-riding sport model, and the third model to be offered will be a soft-riding, luxurious GT-X model that looks and feels like a million-dollar car, but runs like a bat-out-of-hell.
But what exactly makes this supercar capable of giving the vaunted Veyron Super Sport nightmares? For starters, it features an over-the-top big block, 2,000-horsepower aluminum, twin turbo 572 multifuel racing engine, routinely built by Nelson Racing Engines. And if that isn’t enough to strike fear into the heart of the Veyron SS, consider the performance numbers that come with that monster engine: a 0-60 mph time of 1.5 seconds and a quarter-mile time of just 6.7 seconds.
Yes, Bugatti. We’d be scared too.
UPDATE: 12/06/10: The company has yet to reveal live action shots of the Dagger GT, but they have released this rendering video of the soon-to-be American hyperbeast. When the time comes that the company releases the car – according to them, they’re rolling out one of the two Dagger GT prototypes in the early part of 2011 – we’re gearing up for an ultimate speed-shaker of a ride, a car that could potentially shatter just about every land-speed record ever set for production cars.

Top horsepower/torque: 2000 hp/2000 ft lbs (given)
Top Speed: 300 mph, plus
Quarter mile: 200 mph and < 6.7 seconds
0 to 60 mph: < 1.5 seconds
Lap records at: Nurburgring and Virginia International Raceway.
Each Dagger GT will be carefully hand-made by exceptional, enthusiastic craftsmen. Each car will be custom-made to the owner’s preferences and desires. You can order: one of three (3) hard-core racing models; a street-legal comfortable-riding sport model, or a soft-riding, luxurious GT-X model that looks and feels like a million-dollar car, but runs like a bat-out-of-hell. We plan to deliver 5 production Daggers in 2011. Each Dagger will be 49-state street-legal if desired by the buyer.
The base MSRP of the Dagger GT-S or "Sport" model is $450,000 plus custom work, if requested. Deliveries are scheduled beginning in the first half of 2011. Production is very limited to maintain exceptional, over-the-top quality and fine craftsmanship. We have 2 more sales to go before we close out our 2011 production allotment of five (5) units. After the first five units are under contract, we will begin negotiating purchase orders for 10 units to be delivered in 2012.
The Dagger GT is based on an exceptional mid-engine concept car, the Corvette Cheetah, created by the brilliant industrial designer, Ivan Luccion. Our consulting lead designer is Phil Frank, designer of the world record-setting Saleen S7 Supercar which recently won the 24 hours of LeMans. Each Dagger GT is custom-made from 100% proven, guaranteed, off-the-shelf racing components and hand-built to the highest standards by experienced, exceptional supercar craftsmen. The car features an over-the-top big block, 2000 hp aluminum, twin turbo 572 multifuel racing engine, routinely built by Nelson Racing Engines. The engine is also "streetable." A custom TranStar/Mendeola 6-speed transaxle geared to 308 mph is also featured. The transaxle is designed to withstand the 2000 foot-pounds of torque delivered by the engine. The Dagger GT also features a high-strength 4130 Chromoly Steel chassis. A space-age carbon fiber body will be fabricated by the aerospace industry.
No one will pass out driving the Veyron. You can handle 3 times the g-forces without passing out.
But that 1.5s time is a complete joke. As much as I like cars that push the boundaries, come on guys, use your brains. You are limited to about 2.8s on street tires. Power to weight doesn’t magically overcome the available grip from tires.
If it could be done then go for it but it isn’t physically possible.
What is also bull is that top speed rating. You can’t claim production top speed records running on race gas. Must be pump gas.
0-60 in 1.5 seconds or quicker is impossible. Formula one cars are only able to reach 0-60 in 1.7 seconds due to the lack of grip, and they weigh nothing and have a crazy power to weight ratio, plus have super sticky tires. These people are kidding themselves. And over 300 mph? I think i heard somewhere the bugatti veyron needed 200 hp for every 10mph over 230mph. And from the pictures, its going to be a convertible? (or have a removeable roof.) To reinforce that structure for 300mph + will require a lot of stuff, adding weight. This is just someones fantasy and sadly will never materialize.
On no track will any owner ever push any vehicle all the way to 300 mph, or even 200 for that matter. So long as your car can go 155 mph, you’re good for racetrack duty. And 0-60 in 1.5? Is that a joke? Many people will pass out when pushing the Veyron to the limit, so how can you expect the rich, elderly people who make up the majority of those who can afford this car to hold up while accelerating a whole second faster? This vehicle is going to result in a ton of lawsuits.
