2010 Vauxhall Astra VXR Arctic Edition

  Review

Today, Vauxhall unveiled the special edition Astra VXR Arctic Edition limited to only 500 units. This special edition is priced at £23, 595 and is distinguished by an Olympic White exterior color with a contrasting black painted roof, mirror covers, front V-grille, and tailgate trim.

It will also get heated leather Recaro front seats, tinted glass, and black 19-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels. The Astra VXR Arctic Edition will deliver a total of 240 HP and will make the sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 6.2 seconds; top speed will go up to 152 mph.

What better way to check out the special edition than by testing it in Vauxhall’s VXR Power Events including the VXR Power Festival at Silverstone in August. Yep, that’s right, drivers and enthusiasts will be able to take this puppy for a spin to see what it can do.

Press release after the jump.

Press release

British Summertime may have begun, but Vauxhall’s latest addition to the VXR range still looks cooler than last week’s snowstorms, yet its performance is as hot as ever.

Priced at £23, 595 on the road – just £720 more than the standard Astra VXR – each of the 500 Arctic Editions are painted in Olympic White with a contrasting black painted roof, mirror covers, front V-grille and tailgate trim, ensuring that this version of the Astra VXR looks like no other.

Each Arctic Edition also gets a generous £1965 worth of options included in its price. Heated leather Recaro front seats, tinted glass and Black 19-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels all now form part of the Astra VXR Arctic Edition’s armoury.

And for the first time on a VXR product, customers can also specify their Arctic Edition with the Panoramic Windscreen, a £920 option that offers a window on the world that extends back over the front seats with heat-absorbing glass. And if the skies are grim, a full-length shading system with pull-out sunblinds is also included.

Of course, none of this diminishes the Astra VXR Arctic Edition’s exceptional performance. With 240PS of power and 320Nm of torque between 2400 and 5000rpm, it’ll hit a top speed of 152mph, with 60mph arriving from standstill in just 6.2 seconds. Lowered and uprated VXR sports suspension, ultra-low profile 235/35 x 19 tyres and 321mm front ventilated brakes discs complete the Arctic Edition’s dynamic package.

And what better way to test a new Astra VXR Arctic Edition than at Vauxhall’s VXR Power Events. Starting this month and culminating in the VXR Power Festival at Silverstone in August, Power Events gives VXR drivers and enthusiasts the chance to test their mettle (and their metal) in a series of driving challenges.

It has a nice interior and great capabilities. The rear view of this car is cool. It’s awesome that its maximum speed was 152mph.

The stainless-steel exhaust system features a mix of 3.0-inch and 2.5-inch tubing, and a special "merge section" joins the two sides of the exhaust together for a short distance. This design boosts low-end torque by increasing the flow and improving scavenging effect.

It looks so crowded on its interior, but I have to agree that its dashboard and center console really looks amazing on it. As for its exterior, I must say that it is very noticeable on its exclusivity.

I noticed that it had a nice interior touch and amenities which is very impressive. Moreover, I love the decent and hygienic look of this Vauxhall Astra, and I think the engine of this is quite impressive.

I just wonder if this car would go up against rs500? It looks pretty cool if they add up a brembo brake package and more horsepower. And I would pray that they should bring that here in US.

In factory form, the VXR8 has issues with its ridiculously tall ride height. Wortec lowers the car by 35mm with shorter, progressive-rate springs.

The concept is quiet cool and brilliant in style, but i hope the performance as well is consistent.
