The Maybach brand may no longer exist, but Daimler is not willing to let it die altogether. Although it has yet to be officially confirmed, the moniker is set to make a comeback on an ultra-luxurious version of the brand-new S-Class. Specifically, the S-Class Pullman won’t be the only special-edition limousine , as an extended-wheelbase version of the S600 — the Maybach — is set to sit below the 250-inch-long Pullman beginning in 2015.

The upcoming S600 Maybach is still somewhat of a mystery, but various reports suggest it will sport a wheelbase that’s nearly eight inches longer than that of the long-wheelbase version of the S-Class. Spotted on public streets earlier in 2014, the S600 Maybach just traded the city’s narrow roads for the Nurburgring track. That’s right folks, this luxurious land yacht has sporty ambitions as well and the Germans are looking to sharpen its senses on the "Green Hell."

Granted, it’s rather awkward for a vehicle that’s longer than any other standard, full-size sedan to tackle the ’Ring at full throttle. And let’s face it, wealthy customers are more interested in the car’s sumptuous interior, massage seats and comfortable ride. However, Mercedes-Benz is known to have one of the most dynamic vehicle lineups on the market, and the S600 Maybach needs to fit in. Especially considering the $400,000 sticker that’s rumored to adorn its windshield.

Naturally, tackling the ’Ring’s tight corners at high speeds is somewhat of a struggle for the S600 Maybach, but the limousine fares quite well given its curb weight and elongated body. It’s a bit early to judge, but it seems Mercedes’ rival to the Bentley Mulsanne and Rolls-Royce Phantom is impressively sporty.

With the Huracan having already replaced the Gallardo as Lamborghini’s entry-level supercar , it was only a matter of time before the Italians rolled out a Super Trofeo version of the 610-horsepower machine. Announced in July 2014, the Huracan LP610-4 Super Trofeo is finally here to showcase its racing suit thanks to supercar spotter Jeroen.

He stumbled upon the track-prepped Lambo while the Italians were busy with the official photo shoot. It seems we won’t have to wait for the pictures to be released, as the video above provides us with a comprehensive walkaround, and, more importantly, it gives us a taste of the vehicle’s piercing engine note.

The footage also comes to confirm the numerous aerodynamic updates the Huracan has gained in order to become a full-time race car . Notice the huge front splitter and side skirts, the sexy rear diffuser and the huge fixed wing. Modifications don’t stop here though. A bevy of winglets adorn both the front and rear fascias, while the regular engine and trunk bonnets have been replaced with race-spec units.

The louvered front fenders allow better engine cooling and optimize airflow over and around the car. Rounding off the Super Trofeo package is a simple, yet enticing livery. The grey-painted body features silver and white markings, while the carbon-fiber aerodynamic parts are highlighted by bright-orange accents.

No doubt the Huracan Super Trofeo is one mean-looking machine, but wait until you hear that 5.2-liter V-10 engine roar.

A mysterious Audi S3 was recently spotted doing some test runs at the Nurburgring and from the looks of things, it just might be the rumored Audi S3 Plus. Why do I have this hypothesis? For one, the new Audi S3 is already out on the market and it seems unlikely that Audi’s already developing a new one. It’s also not likely to be the Audi RS3 because the body doesn’t veer too far from, if at all, the look of the new S3.

So with those two cars out of the way, that leaves us with the possibility of a diesel-powered S3, but the sound of that engine isn’t very diesel-like. As an educated guess, I would say this is the S3 Plus, a car that’s been rumored to be in the works for quite some time now.

The S3 Plus has been touted as Audi’s response to the emergence of the Mercedes CLA45 AMG . Word has it that Audi is planning to use a modified version of its 2.0-liter, TFSI engine in the S3 Plus with an output of 375 horsepower and 368 pound-feet of torque.

That should make it easy for Audi to package it between the new S3 and the upcoming RS3, giving customers an option to choose from in the event they want a performance version of the S3 without the cost that comes with paying for an RS3.

This is arguably one of the coolest promo videos we’ve seen in quite some time. It’s for the Infiniti Q50 , or to be more specific, it’s transformation from the Q50 into the beastly Q50 Eau Rouge . Obviously, the full moon effect was used to highlight that fact akin to how werewolves rise whenever there’s a full moon. Oh, and guess what, a wolf even makes a cameo in the video !

Then there’s the Q50 Eau Rouge’s hesitancy to drive through a lighted tunnel, a fear that proved to be real when it turned back into the Q50 under the glare of all those tunnel lights. Once the sun starts to rise, the Q50 Eau Rogue makes hasty to return to its owner, but not before reverting back to Q50 form just as the owner/driver leaves the house to get into the car.

It’s a great ad that points out a lot of things about the Q50 Eau Rouge. My favorite, and something I just thought of now: the Q50 Eau Rouge is the automotive personification of a car that is actually a wolf hiding in sheep’s clothing.

That’s an appropriate use of an age-old figure of speech, right?

It’s been less than two months since Jaguar introduced the F-Type Project 7 , a 567-horsepower, limited-edition version of the sports car , and the British have resumed Nurburgring testing, hinting that more iterations of the F-Type are underway. Jaguar tested several F-Types on the "Green Hell" between July 22nd and 25th, according to TouriClips, with as many as four vehicles being hooned simultaneously.

While the Brits are still mum on details, something is obviously going on in Germany, with some of the F-Types seen on the iconic track wearing swirly camouflage on their front fascias and side skirts. There are numerous scenarios to consider. Most of them are based on past spy shots and rumors, which indicate that Jaguar is readying at least three new versions of the sports car.

Interestingly enough, all the F-Types seen on the ’Ring in late July 2014 are roadsters. What’s more, none of them carry significant aerodynamic upgrades, being fitted with regular front bumpers and rear spoilers. So what’s Jaguar up to with these apparently plain-looking F-Types? If you aren’t familiar, Chris Harris is one of the better journalists out there. He’s made a name for himself by getting into arguments with Ferrari — and more importantly — destroying tires (or tyres since he’s English). The one thing that’s always great about a Chris Harris video review, is how well he can diagnose a car. He’s been in the game a long time and has driven everything from ancient, decrepit Citroen 2CV’s to hypercars like the McLaren P1 and LaFerrari . This makes him very diverse, and able to enjoy many different types of car, he doesn’t limit himself to old muscle cars with manual gearboxes or modern high-tech sports cars with all the newest of gadgets. He simply enjoys cars for what they are, he’s a proper gearhead (or petrolhead because again...English). So when he put out this video driving the i8, I payed attention.

The i8 is a technological powerhouse, using technologies and techniques not available on anything in its price range. It has a mid-mounted, 1.5-liter, turbocharged, three-cylinder engine, making 228 horsepower and 236 pound-feet of torque, paired with a 129-horsepower electric motor to make a combined power out put of 362 ponies. The benefit of electric power is the instantaneous torque, and when combined with the turbo three-banger, the i8 produces a whopping 420 pound-feet of it. All this is sent through a variation of the six-speed auto in the new Mini Cooper (the engine is also carried over from the Mini), and delivered to all four wheels.

The chassis of the i8 is a monocoque tub made from CFRP (Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic), so it’s incredibly light for a hybrid with big heavy batteries. The i8 weighs only 3,378 pounds. This makes it heavier than both the Corvette Stingray (3,298 pounds) and the Porsche 911 Carrera (3,042 pounds), but since the chassis is made out of CFRP and the batteries are laid out down the spine of the car, it feels much lighter and more nimble than it’s weight would suggest. This is also aided by the fact that it has that 420 pound-feet of torque from almost the second you touch the accelerator. In the video Chris explains how it doesn’t feel as pure and organic as a 911 but it’s close, and with all of the new technologies, it brings new exciting elements to the table.

Then there’s the look of the thing. To these eyes it’s the most interesting looking car on the road today, if not the most beautiful. This gives the Jag F-Type a run for it’s money. It’s not beautiful in the classic sense, but it is stunning in a modern art sort of way. It looks like the future, and it sort of is. Sports cars need to become fuel efficient nowadays and the new i Division cars are paving the way for that green future. I’m not a fan of electric cars but this one has me intrigued and it intrigues Chris as well. Real gearheads can appreciate when something is new and innovative, when it pushes the ball forward, and that’s exactly what you see here in the i8 and exactly what Chris talks about while driving it. Watch the video, it won’t disappoint.

Although it was launched about two years ago, the outrageously powerful Ferrari F12berlinetta has never posted an official Nurburgring lap time. That might come to an end soon, according to TouriClips, which just released a video showing what appears to be an F12berlinetta lapping the ’Ring with some measuring equipment on board.

The source claims the Italians showed up for testing at the German course and had the "Green Hell" to themselves for about half an hour, just enough to post a quick lap. TouriClips claims to have timed the F12berlinetta at 7:48 minutes, which, due to his positioning on the track, includes about 40 seconds of cool down time the Ferrari took between the T13 and Hatzenbach sections of the Nordschleife.

Simple mathematics suggest the F12berlinetta completed a full lap of the ’Ring in only 7:08 minutes, which would put it on par with the Nissan GT-R Nismo . As impressive as it may sound, TouriClips’ timing leaves room for a lot of error and we suggest you take the said benchmark with a grain of salt. Should Ferrari post on an official lap for the F12berlinetta, we’ll be right back to report it.

Meanwhile, the Enzo remains the fastest Ferrari-badged production car to lap the "Green Hell". The supercar achieved its benchmark in 2008, when Marc Basseng completed a lap in 7:25.7. As far as non-road-legal Ferraris are concerned, the 599XX needed only 6:58.16 minutes to lap the ’Ring in 2010.

Although the F12berlinetta’s presence on the Nordschleife is still a mystery, the video is definitely worth a watch. Be sure to pump up the volume, there’s a 6.3-liter V-12 waiting to pierce your eardrums.

Mysterious marketing can be fun. It’s a way to pique peoples’ interests and keep them coming back for more. Leave people hanging and they will diligently follow you for answers. However, it can also lead to disappointment due to high expectations and low delivery. Which is exactly what happened in this case.

BMW released a teaser video showing a car, in first person, tearing through the streets with a nice engine note to go along with it. What it had shown led me, and probably others, to believe a new, hot-blooded sports car was on the way. Being that the only part of the car BMW had shown was the front wheel, I had assumed something front-wheel drive; maybe a 2 Series Active Tourer hot hatch or maybe something based on the new Mini . But what it turned out to be, if you haven’t watched the video, was an i3 being driven by a woman with her son in the back seat playing some sort of racing game on a PS Vita.

While this is kind of a clever commercial, and the i3 is a great car, the video was somewhat disappointing. BMW is primarily a sports car company, a damn good one at that, and the idea of a new sports car from its factory is an exciting one, so to find out it’s just a clever i3 commercial is a real bummer. Unfortunately Bimmer got our hopes up, but at least for a little while I got to dream up some wild car fantasies, and isn’t that what being a car enthusiast is all about?

Both Hennessey Performance and the Ford GT need no introduction. The former is already famous for uprating almost anything Cadillac and Chevrolet have to offer, among various vehicles from other brands, while the latter is the last supercar to come out of Dearborn. So is there anything Hennessey and the Ford GT have in common? Actually, yes! The Texas-based shop is now offering a mind-boggling engine upgrade that turns the GT into a 1,000-horsepower beast.

Uprating an engine that already generates 550 horsepower and 500 pound-feet of torque with help from a supercharger isn’t easy, but Hennessey Hennessey found the perfect answer. Turbocharging! Yes, the supercharged 5.4-liter V-8 gets even more forced induction, this time around from two ball-bearing turbines, along with the necessary updates for an insane output that sits at exactly 1,000 ponies. These include stainless-steel turbo exhaust and pipes, a billet throttle, twin wastegates, a fuel system upgrade, and a new mass airflow sensor.

Add Hennessey’s very own engine management calibration and the stage is set. This beefed-up GT will take you from 0 to 60 mph in a neck-snapping 2.8 seconds and up to a top speed of 245 mph. If you’re a petrolhead who likes to burn some rubber at the drag strip, then this GT will also enable you to smoke the quarter-mile in 10.6 seconds at 142 mph. Rounding out this exquisite package are a few HPE1000 exterior badges, serial-numbered dashboard and engine plates, and a one year or 12,000-mile warranty.

If you need one more reason why the Ford GT becomes increasingly awesome with the HPE1000 package, then all you have to do is click the play button above. The twin-turbo and supercharged GT just hit the dyno to show off its muscles, enticing exhaust note and intoxicating whistle from the turbos. It’s a soundtrack you can’t miss!

Two simple facts: Hennessey is known for making crazy horsepower numbers by tuning already-powerful cars and many enthusiasts complain the new Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 is underpowered. The solution: let Hennessey tune your 505-horsepower Camaro with some go-fast goodies to get an amazing 636 horsepower from the its 7.0-liter V-8.

This particular kit is called the Hennessey HPE600 and includes porting the heads, swapping in a more aggressive camshaft, upgrading the valvetrain components, bolting on stainless steel longtube headers, welding on high-flow catalytic converters, and flashing the Z/28’s computer for some extra power.

The result is an extra 131 horsepower, making the total count 636 horses at the crankshaft. The new parts help the naturally aspirated, 7.0-liter V-8 make 553 horsepower at the massive 305-series rear tires.

Hennessey explains the process wasn’t as simple as using the previous HPE600 kit from the old Corvette C6 Z06 toolbox. General Motors changed the LS7’s cylinder heads extensively between the two cars, so the Hennessey team had to reconfigure its porting process. On the flip-side, GM’s stock cold-air intake box on the Z/28 works well enough to be left alone.

As with every car Hennessey builds, a shakedown run is needed to ensure everything is ‘tight and right.’ In the video John Hennessey himself takes the Z/28 through its paces to see what the added power does. The Camaro’s super sticky Pirelli tires, performance suspension, and carbon-ceramic brakes all combine to make the it one of Chevy’s best-handling cars, but the added power allows the GM’s new track toy to keep up with the Camaro ZL1 and perhaps even nip the heels of Dodge’s new Challenger Hellcat .
