Any self-titled crazed car nut such as myself will tell you, there’s more to cars than just rubber and metal. No, it’s far deeper than that. It involves a certain level of passion and fanaticism not appreciated by the casual onlooker. No, some folks just have gasoline running through their veins and 5W-30 oil in their heads. It’s a disease, really.

Chrysler ’s SRT division seems to have hit the nail on the head with its latest commercial. It’s all about the brand being more than a brand; it’s about being a legend, making a statement, and having a certain attitude. It embodies the essence of being a car junkie and stirs the souls of gear heads everywhere.

Besides a well-made commercial featuring some of our favorite vehicles, the commercial indicates Chrysler’s intentions of heavily promoting SRT as its own brand or division. It all started with the Viper ’s rebirth in 2013. Moving from under the Dodge branch, the Viper seemingly created its own niche label. Conveniently, the Viper immediately had similarly-badged SRT friends ready to join the party. Although they still sport their own badging, the group of SRT vehicles includes the Dodge Charger and Challenger , the Chrysler 300 , and the famous Jeep Grand Cherokee – all with monstrous V-8s thundering underhood.

With SRT’s growth and increasing recognition, it wouldn’t be unlikely for the division to grow its lineup. Perhaps a slew of SRT4 models would be appropriate — ya know, sporting turbos with crazy boost numbers, manual transmissions and rear-wheel-drive. We already know SRT’s CEO Ralph Gilles has been hearing the SRT fan base screaming for an answer to the Subaru BRZ /Scion FR-S twins. Perhaps commercials like this are our first indication Gilles has something up his gasoline-soaked sleeve.

There is the rare occasion that TopGear UK manages to grab my attention and keep me entertained, and its review of the Zenvo ST1 happened to be one of those times. No, it is not because Jeremy Clarkson was just so witty that I couldn’t turn away. No, it was more like the Zenvo was such a train wreck that I couldn’t drag myself away.

The ST1 is a 1,106-horsepower, £800,000 beast that looks to have all of the goods — on paper that is. To hit this monster output, it uses a 7.0-liter V-8 that is both supercharged and turbocharged, which is rather impressive I must say. However, when TopGear got its hands on one of these supercars , the whole thing went downhill almost immediately.

It started well by Jeremy finding that it was a blur in a straight line, and was capable of hitting a insane 230-plus mph. This is the last of the good things, as from there Jeremy found that the car was literally undrivable in "Race" or "Sport" mode and he must have spun it out a dozen times. As if that wasn’t bad enough, the ST1’s rear brakes then failed and the clutch wasn’t far behind. So, back to Denmark the car goes.

In act II, the ST1 arrived with a new clutch and rear brakes, but before the guys can really take a crack at it, the cooling fan fails and the car does its best Fisker Karma impersonation. Back to Denmark it goes for more repairs...

In act III the ST1 returns yet again, and looks to be in perfect working order. So, the Stig finally gets his crack at it on the TopGear track. Well, the ST1 lays down a crap-tastic 1:29.9, which is one second slower than the Ford Focus ST, folks...

According to Zenvo, the roads were not suitable for driving the ST1 and that is why it turned in such a time, but for my money, it had better beat a Focus in the rain.

Kimi Raikkonen is one of the best drivers in the world, so to see him lose control of a road-going car is a little odd. Then again, when that road-going car so happens to be the mighty Ferrari LaFerrari , we can understand how he lost control. With 963 horsepower on tap and a car that he likely has little seat time in, he’s lucky that the spinout was as small as it was.

With the near tragedy aside, the above video, which is courtesy of one of my favorite YouTube folks Marchettino, is chock-full with tons of accelerations, decelerations, fire breathing and flybys from the top-line prancing horse . And man that thing sounds sicker than ever.

Kick back and crank up the volume, because this one is freaking awesome. And pay close attention to the glow coming from the rotors, as this is a clear indicator of just how hard Kimi pushed the supercar — as if the near wreck wasn’t enough of an indication.

Saudi Arabia, like so many Middle Eastern countries, is a deeply misunderstood place. More than an area that deals with war, sand or oil, Saudi Arabia is a country filled with culture, history and car enthusiasts.

Drive had gotten word that this amazing place also held one of the greatest driving roads in the world, and they wanted to investigate. They gave a rang to McLaren to see if they could snag some 12C’s for the journey. They also contacted a local; Faisal Bin Laden, a professional driver and the owner of the Saudi Falcons race team. McLaren gave the team a 12C Coupe and a 12C Spyder and they set about on their epic adventure.

The resulting trip has been documented in a nine-minute video. It’s full of exotic metal, true gearheads and astonishing scenery. I don’t want to spoil the video , but all of the Drive team’s well-laid plans were for naught.

If you enjoy seeing exotic metal parading around exotic locations, you owe it to yourself to hit that play button. It’s a trip you won’t soon forget watching.

With over 800 horsepower under its hood (actually, it’s 836 ponies), this is the most powerful Chevrolet Corvette Stingray in the world — at least as of February 8th, 2014.

We doubt somebody has one-upped it in 11 days, so we’re more inclined to believe that Late Model Racecraft really has the most powerful ’Vette Stingray in its hands.

In this video, you not only get to see the Corvette exhibiting that throaty roar in full ear-splitting fashion, but you also get to have that treat of watching a beautiful brunette get to experience the unmitigated power of this heavily tuned sports car with a camera focused on her cute dimpled face.

Far be it for us to judge LMR’s taste in women — impeccable, if you wanted to know — the true highlight of this video is that heavily juiced American sports car that absolutely looks and sounds bonkers in a straight line.

Jann Mardenborough is a name we probably should get used to hearing. The young 22-year-old English driver has been added to Red Bull’s driver development program for 2014, largely due to his winning the 2011 Nissan GT Academy and subsequent stops at GT racing, Formula 3 and LMP2.

But none of that can compare to Mardenborough’s biggest achievement to date: debuting at the 24 Hours of Le Mans last year with Greaves Motorsport, in a Zytek Z11SN Nissan , finishing third in class with co-drivers Lucas Ordonez and Michael Krumm.

So the kid can drive and as it turns out, Red Bull is snapping him up for its driver development program, and a big part of that will be his debut into GP3 class racing with Arden Motorsport. As if that isn’t pressure enough, Mardenborough will have some big shoes to fill at Arden as he is essentially replacing another Red Bull-backed driver Daniil Kvyat, who has since moved on to Formula One with Scuderia Toro Rosso.

From what we’ve seen of him, Mardenborough has a good head on his shoulders and he should be able to make a comfortable transition into GP3. That being said, we’re gonna keep a close eye on the kid to see how far he’s come along since winning the Nissan GT Academy in 2011.

What you’re looking at above is one of ten examples of a specially-designed Mini Cooper created by fans of the German marque.

So why are these designs relevant? Well, one of them will be built by Mini as a special-edition model.

All ten of these Mini Coopers, each with custom graphics and special accessories, are going to be part of a special promotion by Mini wherein fans will be given a chance to vote for their favorite design on a dedicated website. Best hurry, though, because the deadline for votes ends today.

Whichever design gets the most votes will be announced at the New York Auto Show on April 16th before Mini goes back to its design lab and builds 56 models of the winning design.

Now that we’ve gotten the specifics out of the way, here’s our three finalists: the Tron-inspired design, the white Cooper with an intricate blue dragon graphic, and the orange Cooper with the tiger on the roof. The last one may be a little tacky for some, but hey, it’s going to definitely stand out, right?

As for our favorite, the Tron Cooper gets our vote.

What we have here, my friends, is a highly-modified Lamborghini Jalpa — a car that in its day, wasn’t all that quick — but now easily lays down 10-second quarter-mile runs like it was a Sunday drive. It’s all thanks to a General Motors LS1 V-8 (350-cubic inches/5.7-liters) with a Magnuson supercharger bolted on. There’s no word on what this Lambo’s American heart pumps out, but it has to be significantly more than the 255 horsepower from the car’s original mill.

Yes, back in 1981 through 1988, Lamborghini produced the Jalpa with a double-overhead-cam, 3.5-liter (210-ci) V-8 that only laid down minimal power. The car was marketed beneath the Countach in price, performance and size. While it wasn’t very stout, its smaller size gave it better outward visibility and better slow-speed handling. Its 0-to-62 time was said to be six seconds flat on its way to a 15.4-second quarter-mile time. Its top speed was rated at 145 mph.

Sadly, 1988 was the Jalpa’s final year in production, as Chrysler bought the Italian automaker and axed the model. Only 412 were made.

Fast forward to the present, Jalpa number 387 makes it’s way down the quarter-mile strip at Calder Park Raceway in Australia. Its supercharged 350 small block is backed by a Toyota automatic transaxle and power is sent to the massive slicks mounted at the rear. Those boys down under sure know how to make a gnarly beast.

Nearly every car enthusiast knows that the Ford Mustang was released on April 17th, 1964, but what if I told you that the first Mustang was actually sold on the 15th. Even more surprising is the fact that this was not special treatment given to some big celebrity at the time. That’s right, folks, Gail Wise — a 22-year-old school teacher at the time — bought the first ever Mustang two days before its release.

She came across this $3,400, Skylight Blue Mustang when she went to a dealer to buy a convertible , but the dealer was fresh out of drop-top models, except the Mustang in question. When the dealer took her into a back room to see the `Stang , she borrowed enough money from her parents to buy it on the spot. The date: April 15th, 1964 — two days before the pony car made its debut at the World’s Fair.

The car ran into issues in 1979, and Gail’s husband parked it in the garage until the early 2000s, despite his wife’s pleas to sell the car.

I don’t want to spoil the entire video for you, so I’ll stop here and let you check it out for yourself. It is an inspiring and interesting story.

If you’ve been a fan of the Gran Turismo franchise since its inception in the late 90’s, you’ve probably heard of Kazunori Yamauchi, the man largely responsible for creating the game.

But what you think you know about Yamauchi is only a small piece of who the man actually is. Fortunately, we won’t have to keep guessing anymore now that an all-new documentary chronicling the man himself has been released.

It’s called "Kaz: Pushing the Virtual Divide" and the official description of the documentary mentions how it’s a film about the “the passion and creative drive of Kazunori Yamauchi, the architect behind Gran Turismo’s birth and breath-taking fifteen-year evolution."

In a lot of ways, it really has been an evolution in how we perceive and appreciate car video games ever since the first Gran Turismo came out in 1997. But more than just the game itself, the documentary also goes into great detail about Yamauchi’s constant and relentless pursuit to improve on his baby.

This is a man with a constant need to pursue perfection, and no more is that more evident than on how Gran Turismo has evolved from its first incarnation to what it is today.

The documentary is pretty long, so if you have plans of watching it, make sure nobody bothers you in the next 90 minutes or so.
