Golf VI GTI - official images

Golf VI GTI - official images

We all got excited about the some spy shots from a market test for the new Volkswagen GTI earlier today. As it turns out, plenty of official pics have been right under our nose.

VW’s UK site has the new GTI already up on its site. According to the webpage, the GTI will make the 0 to 62 mph (100 kmh) sprint in 7.2 seconds and will hit a top speed of 148 mph. According to VW the GTI VI will be "available for ordering soon".

Golf GTI VI production version pics

Volkswagen didn’t fool many people back in September when it said that the Golf VI GTI at the Paris Auto Show was just a concept version. It looked too much like the regular Golf VI to just be a concept, and now we see how close that car really was. World Car Fans caught a few shots of the new GTI while it was doing some market testing.

The small differences between the car in Paris and the one in these pics are the door panels that have been smoothed out at the bottom and less prominent rocker panels (well this is also the five-door model, too.) The GTI VI will be powered by the same 207 hp 2.0-liter engine that is also found in the Scirocco. This will represent 10 more hp than its predecessor.

Because sales of the GTI VI could start as early as this spring, we expect VW will parade this car for everyone to see at the Geneva Motor Show in March.

The new Golf inspires respect with its clear design styling – its appearance is dominated by perfect build quality and precise lines. The front end has an impressively sporty look, thanks to both the striking radiator grille and the elegant shape of the headlights. The prominent tornado line gives it a lower and more extended appearance, from the headlights to the characteristic rear lights.

The 2009 Golf VI will be offered at the launch with two 2.0 liter TDI engines; they output of 110 hp and 140 hp. The 110 hp strong entry-level diesel is satisfied with 4.5 liters of fuel (119 g/km CO2) per 100 kilometers – that represents a 0.6 liter reduction! Even the 140 hp version only requires 4.9 liters of diesel (129 g/km CO2), which is 0.6 liters less.

There will also be four gasoline versions with output 80 hp, 102 hp, 122 hp and 160 hp. Engines will be mated to either a 6-speed or 7-speed DSG transmission.

The sixth Golf has a sportier and more distinctive appearance than any previous generation of the model series. The roof section now rests – similar to the new Scirocco – on a dominant filled out shoulder section. Responsible for this is a prominent curving line that – like a muscle trained down to the last fiber – extends from the headlights back to the taillights. All body surfaces are generally more relaxed, more athletic. In front the new car takes up the horizontally aligned radiator grille trim strip between the headlights of the first Golf generation; the grille itself is high-gloss black.

In the rear too is characterized by a dominance of horizontal lines. The taillights – very wide now – are identified among other things by an unmistakably unique night design. Stylistically – with their crystal-clear lines for the turn signal and backup lamps – they bear a resemblance to the taillights of the Touareg.

Overall, the image of the new Golf – in the interplay of all of its design characteristics – is one of a significantly wider, flatter and even more high-end car.

2009 Volkswagen Golf Plus Collectors Edition

Volkswagen Golf Plus Collectors Edition

Volkswagen seems to like to make collector editions of cars not sold in the U.S. First there was the Scirocco Collectors Edition. Now VW unveiled the Golf Plus Collectors Edition at the Bologna Auto Show (the Golf Plus is just what it sounds like: a Golf/Rabbit with a little extra room.) The Collectors Edition, a concept painted in “White pearl effect” and featuring 225/40 tires on new 18-inch “Bilbao” alloy wheels.

Inside and out, the Golf Plus Collectors Edition exudes a kind of lounge ambiance. And not only because of the espresso machine integrated in the center console. The interior is trimmed in high-end nappa leather in “Titanium black” and “St. Tropez” (cream white) – this creates a very contemporary and urbane ambiance. Perfection right down to the last detail is evident in the decorative “Viaggio” seams between the individual sections of nappa leather trim.

Although the new Vw Golf VI was recently launched, ABT Sportsline, the well-known German tuner specialized in what else than German vehicles, released today its new tuning programme for the stylish hatchback. The new programme comes with a new front bumper, new front grille, side sills, a rear roof spoiler and a new rear air diffuser with integrated 4-pipe exhaust system designed just like the one found on the Lexus IS-F. The kit is completed by the new 18 or 20 inch AR and BR alloy wheels.

The modifications don’t stop here because the tuner improved also the engine as it follows: the 1.4-liter TSI engine develops now 160 hp or 200 hp, depending of the type of software, instead of 122 hp found on the standard engine; the 2.0-liter FSI engine was boosted to 240 hp while the 2.0-liter diesel engine develops 170 hp from 140. The complete lineup for the fresh VW Golf VI has already been released by Eibach. This beauty will surely be in the crosshair of people who love the spotlight. The newest VI version, one of the highest grossing cars of all time, was sent to the gym by Eibach for a lowering of its ride height via the Pro-Kit Performance Springs or the slightly “shorter” Sportline Sport Springs to effect the lowering of the car’s center of gravity.

The Golf’s training is becomes more effective in conjunction with the Pro-Damper Performance Shock Absorbers. Also offered are complete packages of fixed ride height spring and damper combinations, Pro-System or Sport-System. The Pro-Street-S Stainless Coil-Over Suspension System, on the other hand, permits adaptable height adjustments, while the Anti-Roll-Kit Performance Stabilizer Bars effects a reduction of the body roll inclination of the vehicle. Additionally, the Pro-Spacer Aluminum-Wheel-Spacers provide the ideal posture and a rich appearance.

Volkswagen pulling the plug on the R32 for the USA

Volkswagen announced the U.S. will no longer be receiving the hottest version of the Rabbit/Golf/GTI known as the R32. Although this car found a home with many wannabe racers, it was likely hard for Volkswagen to sell a $33,000 hatchback that didn’t look too different from the $16,000 VW Rabbit. One hope is that the the 250 hp all-wheel drive hot hatch will return to these shores when the new Golf VI comes to the US market possibly before the end of 2009.
