Volkswagen Passat

Volkswagen Passat

The Passat was launched in 2008 and the latest variant was launched this year. It has only a 2-litre CRDi engine and the petrol will come later. Its biggest competitors are the Honda Accord, Skoda Superb, Toyota Camry and the Hyundai Sonata. VW has launched the Passat with the BlueMotion technology and the Passat has the first in class park assist and Dynamic Light Assist.

Volkswagen may be betting the world’s largest car market and the world’s fastest growing market will like the same car. VW is having its Chinese subsidiary, Shanghai Volkswagen, develop a new mid-sized car for the U.S. and China. This new car should be about the size of a Camry, and will replace the China-only Volkswagen Passat Lingyu by 2010. Since the car will be Passat sized, it may also be a replacement for the Passat in the U.S.

The ‘New Midsize Sedan’ or NMS may be produced at the new Volkswagen plant in Chattanooga, Tennessee by 2011. The car’s body - including exterior and interior parts - will be developed by Shanghai Volkswagen.

Recently launched, the Volkswagen Passat CC received its first customization programme from the German tuning house Abt. Due to the fact that the body kit is currently under development, the car received only engine modifications as it follows: the 1.6 TSI engine develops now 200 hp, with 40 hp more than the standard version while the 2.0 liter TSI found also on the Vw Golf V GTI brings 240 hp.

Volkswagen announced that a cheaper replacement for the Volkswagen Passat developed primarily for the United States will likely be built in a US plant next to an eventual Jetta replacement.

Volkswagen wants to increase US sales to 1 million by 2018: 800,000 VW vehicles and 200,000 Audis, so making a one or both cars in the dollar zone with U.S. components is crucial.

The plant would begin production in late 2010 with a capacity of 200,000 to 250,000 vehicles. Volkswagen is considering adding to the factory a new mid-sized SUV, also under development.

The new SUV will be placed between the Tiguan and the Touareg.

The Passat replacement would cost about $20,000, considerably less than the nearly $25,000 with shipping for today’s model. The car would be bigger to compete with the Toyota Camry.

Although few people have seen the new Vw Passat CC in flesh, H&R wanted to be the first company offering a new set of springs for the Mercedes CLS rival. With the new H&R components, the vehicle is lowered with up to 40 mm in order to deliver better handling while keeping the same level of comfort. For those who want more, H&R can also improve the chassis of the car, keeping the same TUV approval!

Volkswagen will unveil the last facelift for the current generation Passat in 2009, before the unveil of the next generation in 2012, and not in 2013/2014 as previously reported.

The 2009 facelift will receive the usual cosmetic changes which should reduce the chrome content, add new lights, restyle the bumpers and spice up the equipment with goodies like a rear-view camera and automatic parking aids. Also under the hood there will be a new base unit in the shape of the 110bhp/184lb ft 2.0-litre EU5 motor as well as more potent 2.0-litre TDIs mustering 204bhp/332lb ft.

The Passat B7 will almost certainly retain its current transverse engine layout and will be built on the brand new ultra-flexible MQB architecture. Volkswagen’s new MQB architecture is a transverse architecture that’s designed specially to underpin all the group’s larger mainstream Volkswagens: the Passat saloon and estate, the Passat CC successor, and a new mid-size sedan and SUV for North America.

For 2012 Volkswagen will use small-displacement engines, high-torque 1.4 and 1.6-litre TSI fours, 1.6 and 2.0-litre TDI units and – with a bit of luck – a pair of 3.0-litre VR6s at the top end of the model range.

Volkswagen announced that the new Passat CC will be on display at dealerships in Europe. The sporty design of this new Volkswagen is coupled with coupé-like contours. The Passat CC also offers a multitude of technical innovations, such as the “Lane Assist” active lane-guidance system and “DCC” adaptive chassis control.

The new, automatic DCC system combines the athletic quality of a coupé with the comfort of a top saloon. Another unique feature of the Passat CC is the "Lane Assist" guidance system. Should the vehicle be about to drift out of its lane, this assistant will intervene with corrective steering. Volkswagen is offering the Passat CC in combination with ultra-modern direct-injection engines only. The entry-level engine is a TSI system with 118 kW (160 PS) at a starting price of 30,300 euro.

The next-level engine is a 147 kW (200 PS) TSI with impressive torque and fuel-consumption qualities. This vehicle version comes at a price of 32,975 euro. The most powerful petrol engine in the Passat CC range is a 3.6-litre, six-cylinder engine with 220 kW (300 PS) and with 4Motion permanent all-wheel drive as a standard feature. This vehicle version, fitted with an automatic DSG double-clutch gearbox, is available from 40,800 euro.

Volkswagen unveiled at this year’s Worthersee GTI meet in Worther Lake, Austria the Passat R36 Styling Study. It is based on one of the most powerful Volkswagen Estate and is the work of the specialists from Volkswagen Individual.

The car also features larger Brembo six-piston units, 20 inches wheels borrowed from the Touareg R-Line. On the inside race-ready Recaros replace the softer buckets found on the standard model, and they match the two-tone, black-and-white steering wheel, shift boot and even seat belts quite nicely.

Vokswagen has announced prices for its new four-door, four-seater coupe, the Passat CC , which is available to order from retailers across the UK from next week, Friday 16th May. The first cars, if ordered now, will start arriving in the UK in mid-July. The entry-level CC, the 1.8-litre TSI 160 PS will cost £21,040 RRP on the road, with prices rising to £31,120 for the range-topping 3.6-litre V6 300 PS.

Volkswagen announced UK pricing for the Passat CC

The Passat CC opens a new market niche for Volkswagen and strengthens the company’s range of models in the hotly-contested B-segment. With high quality and impressive specification levels across the range, the Passat CC is likely to appeal to private and fleet buyers alike.

Three engines are available at launch – two petrol and one diesel. Petrol options are a 1.8-litre TSI unit developing 160 PS and 184 lbs ft of torque linked to a six-speed manual or DSG gearbox plus the flagship 3.6-litre V6 FSI with 300 PS and 258 lbs ft of torque channelled via 4MOTION four-wheel drive and DSG gearbox. A common rail 2.0-litre TDI with 140 PS is also offered at launch, and will be joined in September by a 170 PS version of the same powerplant. An additional 2.0-litre petrol unit, with 200 PS, will also become available at this time.

The Volkswagen Passat was first launched in 1973, but none of the fifth generation had anything impressive regarding their design. The only exception is the newly launched Passat CC, that brings a more attractive design.

The next generation Passat will be launched in 2011, and even if everyone expected something big, it only brings small innovation regarding its design; only the front will be changed a bit. The 2011 Passat will be bigger than a current Audi A6 Avant; it will move to a more flexible modular platform and will keep the current engine line-up.

Volkswagen will also bring a New Midsized Sedan (NMS) for the US and that they will introduce a complete fleet of hatchbacks across the whole model line-up.
