VW Scirocco Need For Speed Edition coming to Essen

If life can imitate art, why can’t a car imitate a video game?

A company called Individual that is VW’s domestic division for customization and accessorization, bolted together a Scirocco in a theme for the Need for Speed (NFS):Undercover video game.

The base is the standard Scirocco with the 200 hp 2.0-liter. Outside the car gets a custom two-tone paint job with plenty of race-fan graphics. VW Individual also outfitted the Scirocco with a body kit and set of contrasting black 19-inch alloy wheels. Like a SEMA-style car, the rear seats were removed in order to accommodate two 32-inch and two 19-inch Samsung monitors. because this is video game related, the big screens are linked to three X-Box 360 video consoles.

If you just have to see this car in person, you’re going to need to hop a plane. The car will debut at Essen Moto Show in Germany at the end of this month.

Unlike the Mustang from Midnight Club LA there are not any announced plans to give this car away.

Scirocco may come to USA after all

scirocco may come to usa after all picture

Back in March, Volkswagen announced that Scirocco will not be offered on the US market. The company feared it would take sales from the Golf GTI. The strong euro also was a factor. But today Automotive news reports that Scirocco may be exported to the US after all.

But prodding from enthusiasts and the Scirocco’s popularity in Europe has VW executives rethinking that decision, said Steve Keyes, a company spokesman. The dollar’s gain also doesn’t hurt.

"People are looking at: ’Would it make sense? What are the volumes?’ and all that," Keyes said at a press event here last week. "There’s no real decision yet," he added. Keyes also said the car may be positioned "a little bit differently."

2008 VW Scirocco by Eibach

The new VW Scirocco is one of those great looking Euro-only cars that we wish we had. But for those who can get their hands on one, it can still be improved. Eibach has now released its new suspension components it says is specially designed for the Scirocco (even though the Scirocco shares its suspension basics with the Golf.) This includes the Eibach Pro-Kit, which lowers the center of gravity with up to 30 millimeters, the Pro-Spacer kit and the Pro-Street-S kit, which lowers the car with up to 70 millimeters.

Press release after the jump.

2008 Vw Scirocco by ABT

After Oettinger released yesterday its new tuning kit for the Vw Scirocco, today another German tuner, ABT, revealed its customization program for the recently launched hatchback. The new visual upgrade includes a new front bumper, an ABT front grill, new side sills, a new rear wing spoiler and a diagonally attached 4-pipe rear muffler integrated in the new air diffuser. ABT also offers a new set of 18 to 20 inch BR or AR alloy wheels, of course with fitting tires and wheel spacers.

Under the hood the tuner tweaked the ECU and the results were seen immediately: the 1.4 TSI engine develops now 200 hp (from 160 hp) while the 1.9 TDi engine was boosted to 170 hp (from 140 hp). Also, the tuner is currently developing a new kit for the 2.0 TSI engine in order to develop an astonishing 240 hp.

VW Scirocco by Oettinger

The Volkswagen Scirocco has been on sale in Europe for only about a month, but that didn’t stop Oettinger from making a tuner kit. The new kit consists in a front lip spoiler, new side sills and a new rear air diffuser featuring a 4-pipe stainless steel exhaust system and 20 inch Oettinger type RXX alloy wheels.

Because the Scirocco is based on Golf parts, engine improvements are easily obtainable. The 1.4 TSI engine has been boosted from 170 to 200 hp while the 2.0 FSI engine now develops 240 HP. There is also a new kit is currently under development, which will boost the 2.0 FSI engine to 350 hp. No words about the price yet.

VW working on more variants of Scirocco

The Scirocco coupe from Volkswagen, when unveiled earlier this year, created waves for its design and the advanced technology that went into making it. It is a car with something for everyone. A range of powertrain options justifies that but the company isn’t planning to take a break anytime soon.

Instead VW has gone ahead working on more variants which will appeal to customers looking for power or fuel economy. VW has confirmed that the coupe will be released in an AWD format which will use a high-performance engine, which is likely to be the turbocharged 4-cylinder engine found in Audi S3 at present.

For the cost-conscious customer, VW might in the near future release a special “BlueMotion” version of the Scirocco which is aerodynamically more efficient with mechanical tweaks to help lessen C02 emissions and fuel consumption. At present, the base model employs a 1.4L TSI but the BlueMotion will probably work in tandem with a diesel engine generating fewer horses.

The Scirocco will not come stateside though it would find so many interested buyers. The collapse of the dollar against the euro is the only reason VW has for the curious American needing urgent answers.
