Volkswagen today unveiled in Shanghai the Tiguan HyMotion, a SUV prototype with a fuel cell. The electric engine has a maximum power of 134 hp and the fuel cell system develops 107 hp. The Tiguan HyMotion weights 1870 hg, makes the 0 to 60 mph sprint in 14 seconds and can hit a top speed of 93 mph.
The SUV family from the Allgaeu region gets a sleek increment. The new Abt Tiguan is more than the "small" brother of the successful Touareg. The car presents itself very self-contained in technology and form. "With its straight lines and curves at the right place it is a very likeable car," says Hans-Jürgen Abt.
Even before its market introduction on 9th November of this year, the European consumer protection organisation Euro NCAP (European New Car Assessment Programme) tested the safety of the Tiguan and the results are first class. With this result, the Tiguan continues the good tradition established by the Golf, Touran, Passat and Touareg in the past.
While the Volkswagen Tiguan concept car has just been unveiled at LA auto show last year, it seems the hostility already started from Toyota.
The new weapon: Tiguan.com domain name. This name will obviously be typed in by numerous buyers when the car will be available someday in 2008 but they might be surprised to see toyota.com website coming up on their screen. it is surprising to see this kind of maneuver from a big car manufacturer. Are they really afraid of the Tiguan that much ? I admit the name itself is scary.
Volkswagen has unveiled its compact 4x4, the Concept Tiguan, at the Los Angeles Auto Show, and has announced that the first examples of the SUV will be delivered to customers by the end of next year. The first news of the Tiguan’s development came with the debut of Concept A in Berlin earlier this year. This latest development in Los Angeles takes the Tiguan one step closer to production and hints strongly at how the final version could look.
