Recent spy shots of the next generation Touareg revealed the SUV will offer enough space for seven-seats. It will also be sportier and have better fuel efficiency. Volkswagen will use more aluminum in order to reduce weight and save gas. The official launch will be made in late 2010.
The 2010 Touareg will be built on the same platform as the next-generation Porsche Cayenne and Audi Q7, with a design inspired by the latest Tiguan.
The company will also offer a range of more fuel efficient engines, starting with a 278 hp 3.2-liter V6 gas engine and top out with a 344 4.2-liter V8. Diesel options will include 2.7-liter and 3.0-liter turbodiesels. All the engines will be matched with a six-speed automatic gearbox.
Volkswagen goes sailing: in collaboration with the world’s leading sail manufacturer, North Sails, the company unveiled a Touareg study specially designed for the marine life.
The Touareg North Sails study is painted in "Campanella white" and fits the shiny 19-inch alloy wheels "Zaragoza"; all this next to the design "Individual" package perfectly in a marina.
The concept also features: fog lights, outside mirror and reflectors equipped with aquamarine blue colored lenses. On the interior: wood flooring panels outlined with LED lighting strips.

Touareg Stanley will make its penultimate stop at the Tech Museum of Innovation in San Jose, California from 20 June to 18 July 2008. This is the place (in the Silicon Valley region near San Francisco) where the prototype was born.
Stanley was the first automobile to master the “Grand Challenge” for robot cars, gaining itself the reputation of a pioneering development project for autonomous vehicles.
The Touareg Stanley made a 212-kilometer race through the Mojave Desert amidst a field of 22 other competitors on 8 October 2005. The SUV drove through the deser with no driver and finished the cross line after six hours, 53 minutes and 58 seconds. Never before had a motor vehicle managed anything close to such a distance completely autonomously.

While the US is still waiting for a V6 diesel engine, Volkswagen UK announced today the introduction of a revised version of the 3.0 liter V6 diesel engine on the Touareg, which will deliver a useful boost in power but also a higher fuel economy and less CO2 emissions.
According to the manufacturer, the Volkswagen Touareg powered by the 3.0 liter diesel engine represents almost 68% of all the sales of the vehicle in the UK. The upgraded engine, linked to a six speed tiptronic gearbox and four-wheel drive, will now deliver 240hp instead of 225hp, the sprint from 0-100 km/h will be possible in 8.3 seconds while the CO2 emissions will drop from .278 g/km to 262 g/km

It could pull a Boeing 747 weighing 190 tonnes with ridiculous ease(almost) . It got a lot of praise from all of those who went off-roading in it for the first time. The V10 comes with a 5.0-liter diesel engine producing 310 hp and 533 ft-lbs of torque(enough to restart a dead planet?!)
So its rugged, its fuel efficient, its powerful and reliable. All these characteristics belong to a Hummer or a Jeep used in military applications. VW has taken some time to realize that and have come out with their new, rugged and not-so-marvelous-looking Touareg Military Edition. Its mean and its green.
The green paint has sunk the chrome and premium communications systems, recovery hooks and a machine gun has been thrown in. The idea here is to give the military officials a look at VW’s potential when it comes down to preparing vehicles which will help soldiers do their routine job. The military presently uses Merc’s G class cars which are aging and need replacements or companions. There are plenty of fitments in the exterior, and who here knows what they are for?
The Volkswagen Individual product offensive proceeds to the next round; the elegant but sporty R-Line accessory package was recently also made available for the Touareg. The “Exterieur” and “Plus” packages include a range of sporty design features and can be ordered individually or together as desired.

For Spain, the equivalent of April 1st is December 28. This is the only reason why the Spanish Volkswagen website "unveiled" the Touareg Cabrio! (I first thought they got a little bit to enthusiast by the holiday’s spirit, but when I talked to my friend from the Spanish TopSpeed and find out the real reason!)

2002, the Touareg marked
Volkswagen’s powerful way into the domain of SUVs. "Even for Abt, the car was absolutely new territory," explains Hans-Jürgen Abt. Back then, the managing director of Abt Sportsline did in fact have doubts about the market opportunities of the heavy weight: "But the SUV has become a great success, and meanwhile the Touareg and the Audi Q7 belong to our success stories.
