The Passat – the continuation of a success story

The first Passat was built at the Volkswagen factory in Emden 32 years ago. The Passat has become the most successful Volkswagen model after the Golf and Beetle. Over 13 million vehicles have been built since 1973. This means that on average, some 1.150 Passats have been delivered every day for over three decades (2004: 2,700 per working day). The most important markets for the Passat are Germany, Italy, France and Great Britain in Europe. China and the USA are the strongest overseas markets.

I had the car since the end of sept. I was visiting a friend and backed into his driveway to go to work. The eng light flicker and made a hellish noise . I pulled off the road to open the hood. Read the onwers manual and called the dealership. They said to check the gas cap. When I got to work I called and they said that I could bring it in the next day. On the way home 2:30 A.M. on the expressway I lost power. A coil went and I flatbed it to the dealership. They fixed it and 18miles later I was back to the dealer 2 coils and a recir. valve for the turbo. It is a 2007

I bougth a 2007 Passat sedan last month. I have found the car to be a bit smarter than I like (I will get used to our relationship over time), however I find the power curve fast and fun. Those who have ridden with me refuse to believe it is a 4 cylinder! The new design is vey sharp, and I have had several comments to that effect from parking lot pedestrians. The fit and finish is perfect inside and out (my son backed into it on day 5, so there is a bit of paint missing on the front bumper and the VW symbol had to be replaced). I have a history of keeping my VWs for 10-15 years (180k-220k miles), so I look forward to a long and interesting relationship with this, the most complex VW in my history.

Although I have had the passat for only 2 months, I have thoroughly enjoyed it. I must say, it is truly a comfortable ride, HOWEVER, there are several things about it I just cannot accept. 1) There is a lot of give in the amount of pressure needed to initially accelerate on the gas from a stop. 2) The auto-sensor windsheild wipers seem to have a mind of their own when it is damp or raining, which cannot be overridden by the driver. 3) The fuel tank does not seem to want me to fill it all the way. It never fails to click between 3/4 and a full tank. 4) And this is not true on all passats, but I was stuck with the Xenon headlights because the color I requested was only available with that package, and unfortunately for all other drivers on the road, they are rediculously blinding, and there is nothing Volkswagon or the Dealership is willing to do to fix this. 5) After just 40 days the fuel injector was malfunctioning and it has been in twice for service. Overall the car is nice, but after experiencing numerous issues such as the above, I have decided that it is not the car for me.
