Volkswagen’s->ke94 highly popular sports hatch, the Golf R, is gearing up to conquer new territories after the company finally confirmed its plans of launching the vehicle in the North American market. As such, we’re not that surprised that tuning firms are likewise releasing their own performance packages for the sports hatch. A bigger market for the car will result in a bigger market for these aftermarket companies.

Easy as A-B-C, right?

One tuning company that has released a new performance upgrade for the Golf is APS of Brackley. Actually, the British tuning firm announced that there would be three stages of performance tuning for the all-wheel drive Golf R, beginning with a Stage 1 program that only includes a remapping of the sports hatch’s engine control unit. This modification will bump up the 2.0-liter TFSI’s output from 267 horsepower to 308 horsepower. The package comes with a price tag of £445.00, or around $705.

For a more detailed and comprehensive modification, APS is also offering the Stage 2 package, which consists, among other things, a new Milltek large bore turbo down pipe, high flow sports catalyst, and a choice of Milltek stainless steel sports exhausts. These exhausts bring with them a switchable electronic exhaust valve, 2.75 inch bore tubing, and dual 100mm ceramic black tailpipes.

According to APS, customers who opt for the Stage 2 upgrade can choose between two types of exhausts: a Milltek non-resonated cat-back system that ‘emphasizes performance and aural excitement’ or a resonated Milltek cat back exhaust that ‘majors on refinement and also benefits from EC type approval’. Whatever type of exhaust you end up choosing, APS has said that the Stage 2 package for the Golf R will raise its peak power to somewhere around 320-330 horsepower. This package is being sold for £1999, or about $3,165.

APS also has a Stage 3 package for the Volkswagen sports hatch that is still in its development stage. The tuning firm likewise said that with this package, the Golf R’s output can be bumped further to around 350 horsepower.

Aside from the power upgrades, APS is also offering a range of chassis upgrades for the Golf R, including a three-way adjustable Haldex Gen4 four wheel drive controller, sports lowering springs, a KW height and damping adjustable coilover suspension, uprated suspension bushes, Brembo GT big brake kits, and a set of 18” and 19” Sportec Mono 10 forged alloy wheels with Toyo tires.
