2011 Volkswagen Scirocco R-Cup

Last week we brought you news of the 2010 Race of Champions to be held at the Dusseldorf Football Arena this weekend. If you were still looking for a reason to get a ticket and check it out, here’s one more thanks to VW. The German manufacturer has confirmed their Scirocco R-Cup racer will be put through its paces by the world’s best drivers in head-to-head battle. It doesn’t get much better than that.

The entrance of the Scirocco R Cup car into the ROC is especially newsworthy simply because this will mark the first time a bio natural gas powered vehicle will make a run in the race. Bio natural gas is a 100% natural product created in Germany from biogenous waste materials and its use will reduce the vehicle’s CO2 emissions by 80%. The bio-CNG is a great way to power the Scirocco R Cup, but it would be nothing without pairing itself with the 2.0-liter four cylinder TSI engine to produce 275hp.

The 2010 Race of Champions will feature some of the most successful racers from around the world, but also some of the world’s most famous names: Sébastian Loeb (seven-time World Rally Championship winner and three-time Race of Champions ‘Champion of Champions’), Andy Priaulx (three time WTCC champion), Jason Plato (double British Touring Car Championship winner), Alain Prost (four-time Formula 1 world champion) and the German pairing of seven-time Formula 1 champion Michael Schumacher and the recently-crowned 2010 Formula 1 world champion Sebastian Vettel.

Press release after the jump.

The annual Race of Champions showdown returns to Germany this weekend (27-28 November) for the first time in 21 years, and the Scirocco R-Cup race car will join a list of legendary names from the world of motorsport as they compete to claim the title of ‘Champion of Champions’.

Taking place at the Düsseldorf Football Arena, the 2010 Race of Champions will feature some of the most successful racers from around the world, and the Scirocco R-Cup race car marks the first time a vehicle powered by gas has competed in the event. The 275 PS coupés are powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder TSI engine run on bio-CNG which reduces CO2 emissions by 80 per cent.

Among the list of famous names taking part are Sébastian Loeb (seven-time World Rally Championship winner and three-time Race of Champions ‘Champion of Champions’), Andy Priaulx (three time WTCC champion), Jason Plato (double British Touring Car Championship winner), Alain Prost (four-time Formula 1 world champion) and the German pairing of seven-time Formula 1 champion Michael Schumacher and the recently-crowned 2010 Formula 1 world champion Sebastian Vettel.

The 2010 season saw the eco-conscious Scirocco R-Cup complete its inaugural season as the partner series of the popular DTM. The grids were made up of a wide range of racing talent throughout the year, with guest drives from a number of motorsport legends including Martin Brundle, Mark Blundell, Johnny Herbert, Carlos Sainz and Derek Bell.

It looks very aggressive on its front design. However, I’m too disappointed on its engine output, which is so weak with this kind of vehicle.

The front looks like a mad sports car, well I’m not really into a sports car because you can only use that on a race but I must say that I am really impressed with this.

It’s not like the R will encroach on A3 sales since we don’t get the mechanically identical S3 here and there’s no longer a 3.2L A3 available.

Now for this version the styling seems better and they are giving us both a DSG and stick, but still no 4dr. We have a 4dr GTI now, why not the R?

As a fuel for racing cars is biomethane, which is made of 100 percent from biomass or renewable resources. Beginning of the season also occur in the 25-strong starting field five well-known race car driver.

The 2010 Volkswagen Scirocco Cup is now over and the German Automotive producer is looking forward to next year’s edition of the event.

We’ll remind you that Volkswagen is no stranger to the world of surfing, as the company’s 1960s’ T1 bus is an iconic vehicle for those who like to ride the waves

now that’s mad.. imagine a 275Horses under the hood and powered by a bio fuel? this is a great innovation for automotive industry does it?.
