While we are all waiting for the 2014 Golf R to hit the market, the German tuner ALPHA-N Performance decided to offer a few tricks for the current model.
The base Golf R is powered by a 2.0-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder engine that delivers a total of 270 horsepower. That’s a pretty hefty number for a four-banger, but that’s not the best it can can do.
ALPHA-N Performance updated the Golf R with a new EVOMS sports air filter system and a new, stainless-steel exhaust system that considerably improves the sound of the turbocharged engine. All these changes, combined with a new EVOX systems chip tuning box, jump the total output to 330 horsepower - an increase of 60 horsepower over the base version.
All this power is transferred to the asphalt through all four wheels via the standard DSG gearbox.

Volkswagen Golf R by ALPHA-N Performance in Detail
Along with the power upgrade, the Golf R is updated with a new Road & Track threaded chassis from Öhlins. This is combined with a set of extremely lightweight OZ Racing Ultraleggera HLT-wheel 8-by-20-inch rims in the Race Gold finish that fit perfectly the exterior blue paint. The new wheels are wrapped in 235/30R20 tires.
The name is the game: The ALPHA-N Performance from Bad Neuenahr has made a good name for itself mainly with performance optimisations of BMW vehicles from different series up to now. Now, the specialists headquartered near the legendary Nürburgring prove that they know their way around other car brands as well by improving the Golf 6 R’s lap times.
"Road & Track" by Öhlins!
It is mainly due to the Road & Track threaded chassis from Öhlins, installed by Öhlins performance partner ALPHA-N. The high-end chassis finds its perfect partners in the extremely light-weight OZ Racing Ultraleggera HLT-wheel rims in the Race Gold finish. As the motor sports enthusiasts among us know, the vehicle masses without spring suspension directly influence driving dynamics and therefore should be kept as low as possible. ALPHA-N Performance applied 8x20 inch light-weight construction wheel rims with flat 235/30R20 pneu.
The drive of the VW Golf 6 R was revised again as well. ALPHA-N Performance installed an EVOMS sports air filter system and a (customised) stainless steel exhaust system from the turbo, as well as an EVOX systems chip tuning box, enabling the 2.0 litres turbo motor to push a full 330 HP into the DSG gear that are then transferred to the asphalt through all four wheels.
