2014 Volkswagen Amarok Power Concept

The 2014 Worthersee Festival was packed with numerous high-performance machines and shiny concept cars , but there’s at least one certain pickup truck that literally rocked the Austrian event. We’re talking about the Volkswagen Amarok Power Concept, a truck created not just to showcase the company’s more aggressive side, but equipped with everything it needs to be the life of the party.

The most intriguing part about this pickup is the 5000-watt sound system and the DJ equipment fitted in its spacious bed. The gear includes a 92 Allen & Heath DJ kit, a Pioneer CDJ900NXS player, two Void Acoustics Impulse 3T speakers, a Stasys Xair subwoofer and six micro speakers. That’s more than enough to make a lot of noise while throwing a cool party at the beach.

Speaking of pumping, the party truck is fitted with a 3.0-liter, V-6, diesel engine that’s equally impressive in terms of performance. With help from a turbocharged unit, the oil-burner delivers 268 horsepower and 442 pound-feet of torque, and launches the Amarok from a 0 to 62 mph in 7.9 seconds, before reaching a top speed of 130 mph.

Volkswagen Amarok Power Concept in detail

Volkswagen Amarok Power Concept

Design-wise, the Amarok Power Concept looks like a German version of the almighty Dodge Ram SRT-10 . The truck sits 3 inches (80 mm) lower than the regular Amarok and rides on massive 22-inch alloy wheels wrapped in low profile tires. Finished in Gunmetal, the rims make a great combo with the vehicle’s Dynamic Grey coat and the orange decals adorning the sides. The truck’s unique appearance is further enhanced by a larger lower intake mounted in the front bumper, the smoked taillights, chrome exhaust tips, and the black diffuser.

The grey and orange theme is present in the cabin as well, where the sporty bucket seats are trimmed in black and Orange Power Nappa leather. The orange hue also highlights the dashboard and center console, which benefit from a carbon-fiber-like finish. To round things off, Volkswagen used Alcantara to dress the flat-bottomed steering wheel, the gear lever and the handbrake.

And this special Amarok also has ’rhythm’ thanks to its richly varied interplay of metallic, high-gloss and matt surfaces: deep ’Dynamic grey’ metallic paint underscores for the one part the technical, cool look, while the use of micro glass flakes intensifies the sheen. Wing mirror covers and the mighty 22-inch alloys (tyre dimension 295/35) are painted in ’Gunmetal’. Further striking touches are created by orange decals on doors and sills and orange brake callipers. Genuine highlights on the other hand include the bi-xenon headlights with their chrome inserts and the likewise chrome-plated twin tail pipes of the Amarok ’Power’. The technically high value look and feel is, however, also reflected inside: refined black and ’Orange Power’ nappa leather, black Alcantara on the steering wheel, bucket seats and door trim is additionally combined in the cockpit with high quality carbon leather. A love for detail: on the seats the honeycomb of the radiator grille is recreated as perforation and a silhouette of the Amarok is laser-etched into the leather beneath the head-piece.

And these fine details naturally continue in respect of the sound system installed in the vehicle: centrepiece of the DJ equipment is an Allen & Heath Xone:92. Used as input devices are Pioneer CDJ900NXS units. Sound output comes via two VOID ACOUSTICS Impulse 3t speakers. Their special design was especially created for Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles. With the similarly adapted VOID ACOUSTICS Stasys Xair subwoofer the ’Amarok Power’ is ideally equipped to reproduce even the really low frequencies. The VOID ACOUSTICS mycro 6 loudspeakers used as monitors have been integrated into dedicated functional sound boxes. The VOID ACOUSTICS loudspeakers are driven by amplifiers from MC². All of the individual
components have been designed in such a way that when assembled they perfectly fill the complete 3.5 m2 cargo bed of the Amarok SingleCab and as a ’compact cube’ thus provide space for the complete PA system. All ready for the next open air party, which the Amarok will get really rocking!
