Vokswagen has announced prices for its new four-door, four-seater coupe, the Passat CC, which is available to order from retailers across the UK from next week, Friday 16th May. The first cars, if ordered now, will start arriving in the UK in mid-July. The entry-level CC, the 1.8-litre TSI 160 PS will cost £21,040 RRP on the road, with prices rising to £31,120 for the range-topping 3.6-litre V6 300 PS.

The Passat CC opens a new market niche for Volkswagen and strengthens the company’s range of models in the hotly-contested B-segment. With high quality and impressive specification levels across the range, the Passat CC is likely to appeal to private and fleet buyers alike.
Three engines are available at launch – two petrol and one diesel. Petrol options are a 1.8-litre TSI unit developing 160 PS and 184 lbs ft of torque linked to a six-speed manual or DSG gearbox plus the flagship 3.6-litre V6 FSI with 300 PS and 258 lbs ft of torque channelled via 4MOTION four-wheel drive and DSG gearbox. A common rail 2.0-litre TDI with 140 PS is also offered at launch, and will be joined in September by a 170 PS version of the same powerplant. An additional 2.0-litre petrol unit, with 200 PS, will also become available at this time.

The Volkswagen Passat was first launched in 1973, but none of the fifth generation had anything impressive regarding their design. The only exception is the newly launched Passat CC, that brings a more attractive design. The next generation Passat will be launched in 2011, and even if everyone expected something big, it only brings small innovation regarding its design; only the front will be changed a bit. The 2011 Passat will be bigger than a current Audi A6 Avant; it will move to a more flexible modular platform and will keep the current engine line-up. Volkswagen will also bring a New Midsized Sedan (NMS) for the US and that they will introduce a complete fleet of hatchbacks across the whole model line-up.

Set to be launched in early 2009, the new Volkswagen CC will be powered by a 2.0 liter turbo diesel engine capable of delivering 200 hp and a 3.6 liter V6 petrol engine which produces 300 hp. >> read

The Passat Estate TSI EcoFuel being premiered in Geneva marks the beginning of a new era for natural-gas-fuelled automobiles. Until now, passenger cars operated using eco-friendly, low-consumption natural gas have tended to be "mild mannered". The Passat changes that once and for all with its 147 hp TSI engines.
And yet the direct-injection turbo engine in the Passat, specifically designed to run on natural gas, consumes no more than 5.2 kilograms of gas per 100 kilometres. The Passat and the Passat Estate TSI EcoFuel are due to be launched on the market around year-end.
