Volvo Cars has started European delivery of S40 sedans and V50 estates with its new and more powerful D5 diesel powerplant, aiming at Europe’s premium diesel car market.
In both cars, the diesel will be linked to Volvos’ Geartronic automatic gearbox, but a six-speed manual will be available by the middle of next year.
Both cars manage a combined fuel economy of 40.4mpg, and each will have carbon dioxide emissions of 184g/km, which will put them into 26% company car tax band.

Volvo Car Corporation will start producing cars in China. The new
Volvo S40 will be built at Volvo Cars’ partner Changan Ford’s production plant in Chongqing.
Volvo Cars’ technical team in Chongqing have worked together with purchasers from Changan Ford to select local suppliers for a number of car parts. The aim is to meet the Chinese government’s requirements for local production to its full extent.

The Volvo S40 comes loaded with features for a very competitive price. For starters, the base price of $24,190 is $510 less than the current S40. Standard equipment includes a 2.4-liter five-cylinder engine, curtain and side-impact airbags, projector-type headlamps, and ABS with EBD, which electronically balances the braking.
