Volvo launched the S40 in the autumn of 2003. It was a larger sedan evolution of its Dutch-built predecessor. The design language and the specification level harmonised more closely with the larger Volvo S60. Volvo has announced today pricing for its 2008 model year lineup. The 2008 Volvo vehicle line has undergone enhancements to its model mix along with the introduction of the exciting C30. Other highlights include the addition of the new T6 turbocharged engine in the S80 luxury sedan, while the S40 sport sedan and V50 sportwagon receive major appearance updates and a bump in horsepower from 218 to 227.

If the Volvo C30 hatchback hasn’t been doing to well, that doesn’t mean that Volvo is not about to give up just yet. A recent photo rendition of the 2009 Volvo S40 shows that the company is pulling away from its ‘boxy’ styling and headed towards a more sleeker and aggressive look.

Spy photographers caught the next S40 on testing in Sweden. It seems that the facelift S40 will make its world debut in march at Geneva Motor Show.
The new S40 received a few modifications: the fornt grill and the spoiler were lowered and the last one has the part beneath painted in black like the C30. The engine will remain the same as in the current model.
The S40 brings the traditional Volvo virtues of style, class-leading safety and driving exhilaration to a growing following of young and young-at-heart customers. Most importantly, this premium compact sedan is highly attainable for those who might otherwise consider a lesser car.

Volvo Cars has started European delivery of S40 sedans and V50 estates with its new and more powerful D5 diesel powerplant, aiming at Europe’s premium diesel car market.
In both cars, the diesel will be linked to Volvos’ Geartronic automatic gearbox, but a six-speed manual will be available by the middle of next year.
Both cars manage a combined fuel economy of 40.4mpg, and each will have carbon dioxide emissions of 184g/km, which will put them into 26% company car tax band.

The Volvo Car Corporation will start producing cars in China. The new Volvo S40 will be built at Volvo Cars’ partner Changan Ford’s production plant in Chongqing.
Volvo Cars’ technical team in Chongqing have worked together with purchasers from Changan Ford to select local suppliers for a number of car parts. The aim is to meet the Chinese government’s requirements for local production to its full extent.

The Volvo S40 comes loaded with features for a very competitive price. For starters, the base price of $24,190 is $510 less than the current S40. Standard equipment includes a 2.4-liter five-cylinder engine, curtain and side-impact airbags, projector-type headlamps, and ABS with EBD, which electronically balances the braking.
