Until Volvo finally unveils the revised XC60 we’ll just have to deal with minor updates. The 2013 New York Auto Show brought just that to the current lineup in the form of a new XC60 R-Design that adds a renewed and sporty appearance, a dynamic driving-focused chassis and a powerful engine.
For the exterior, the new R-Design package adds a frameless Tech Matte Black grille with high-gloss black stripes, a silk metal diagonal and a refined R-Designed emblem. For the interior, the new XC60 R-Design gets new sports seats wrapped in a combination of black nubuck textile and perforated leather, and features an embroidered "R" logo.
The new R-Design models have been specially designed for "performance-minded individuals with a passion for exquisite details." Volvo also hopes that with its latest addition to the lineup will steal attention from customers currently driving other car makes today.

Yesterday we brought you the first set of spy shots for the upcoming Volvo S60 facelift and now is time to see another updated Volvo playing in the snow: the XC60. As you can see, the refreshed XC60 is donning the same camouflage as the S60, meaning that the SUV will get the same updates as the sedan.
As a result, you should expect the next XC60 to feature the same design elements we have seen in the new V40, which was unveiled at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show. We will see a redesigned hood, new front bumper and new headlamps, plus, of course, an updated interior.
We can’t see any camouflage on the SUV’s rear end, so you shouldn’t expect any updates in this area. Under the hood, the new XC60 will carry the same engine lineup, including both gasoline and diesel powertrains.
Expect the new Volvo XC60 to arrive at a major show this year.
We’ll bring you more updates once Volvo releases more info.
Do you remember the Volvo C70 Inscription unveiled at the 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show? Now Volvo has applied the same treatment to the XC60. The new XC60 Inscription will add an extra luxurious, personal touch to the dynamic XC capability and is now available for order, even though an official public debut won’t be made until late June at the 2012 Leipzig Auto Show.
Just like the C70, the new XC60 Inscription will be fully upholstered in fine semi-aniline quality leather and will add a charcoal headliner, special effect paint, and a new set of 20" wheels.
"Many consumers we talk to have very exclusive, individual tastes. The Inscription version is designed around their preferences, by offering the opportunity to give the XC60 a highly personal touch," says Doug Speck, Senior Vice President Marketing, Sales and Customer Service at Volvo Car Corporation.

Volvo will come at the Detroit Auto Show with an innovative petrol plug-in hybrid: the XC60 Plug-in Hybrid Concept that previews a production version vehicle set to be offered in both Europe and North America. The concept combines a 280 HP four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine driving the front wheels with an electric motor producing 70 HP.
The concept offered three modes of operation: Pure, Hybrid or Power, with the Hybrid one offering a fuel economy of over 100 mpg. This system will sprint the car from 0 to 60 mph in just 5.8 seconds
"The technology in the XC60 Plug-in Hybrid Concept is as ingenious as it is unique," says Stefan Jacoby, President and CEO of Volvo Car Corporation. "You can make really green progress on the road without compromising on any of the luxury car’s renowned properties. No other manufacturer has succeeded in delivering fuel economy and electrical range on this level in a capable, spacious performance car with 350 horsepower on tap."

About a month ago, we reported on a safety recall being done by Volvo over an improperly manufactured airbag system covering a certain number of Volvo models, including the 2010-2011 models of the S80 and XC70 as well as 2011 models of the V70 and the XC60.
Unfortunately for Volvo, another model seems to be experiencing the same problem after the National Highway Safety Traffic Administration reported that 58 units of the 2010 Volvo XC60 are all suffering from the same problem.
Just to remind you, the recall is being done due to a problem with the driver’s airbag “clock spring wiring connector for the supplemental restraint system”. The problem causes the airbag to improperly deploy should a crash occur, risking more injury to driver’s involved in the crash.
So if any of you are driving a 2010 Volvo XC60, it’s highly advisable that you contact your local dealers and have them inspect the car for the potentially dangerous problem. In the event that it needs to get them fixed, you should have your dealers fix it as soon as possible.
Despite our fascination for fast cars and exotics, one thing still holds true for us: safety always comes first.
The Volvo XC60 enters the 2011 model year with no major changes on either the exterior or the interior. What it does get is a new Pedestrian Detection with a full auto brake safety system and a new infotainment system, similar to the one found in the S60.
The new Pedestrian Detection with full auto brake safety system works together to ensure that no pedestrian will get hurt due to unfortunate incident. The system uses radar and camera technology to watch for pedestrians at the front of the car. The system will alert the driver who can then act accordingly by either braking or steering clear of the pedestrian. If the driver is distracted in any way and does not brake or steer away then the auto brake system will stop the vehicle right before the vehicle hits the pedestrian.
The Volvo XC60 will come powered with a choice of a four-cylinder direct-injected 1.6-liter and a 2-liter GTDi engine.
Proving that there’s still some people out there that will help anyone in trouble despite being on the receiving end of a car crash, the driver and the passenger of this Volvo XC60, which had a small plane crash into it, came to the aid of the injured pilot. Apparently, the plane was landing when it quickly took off again before appearing to try a second landing. This second attempt lead the small aircraft into the back end of the Volvo. Officers are still not clear on whether this was a mechanical or human error.
Despite having their SUV completely totaled, both the driver and the passenger immediately got out of their wrecked ride to ensure that the pilot, who was pretty banged up from the car, was out of harm’s way. Fortunately, fire crews were already in the vicinity when the crash happened thanks to a drag racing event to which the XC60 was a part of.
The pilot was taken to the hospital with serious injuries after this traumatizing ordeal. Fortunately, there are still good people out there with the instinct to help, despite being the wronged party during this unbelievable ordeal.
Two years ago, we began hearing rumors about Volvo creating a soft-roader with the inner workings of the Volvo C30 and the styling of the Volvo XC60. After being in the pipeline for so long, those rumors were finally confirmed at the Geneva Motor Show by Volvo’s President for Overseas Corporate Strategy, Lex Kerssemakers. He says, "There will be some further expansion of the XC range in the near future."
Generally speaking, society is becoming more environmentally and economically conscious. The trends that we have seen with cars such as the BMW X1 and the Audi Q3 are that of a market wanting more for less. The photo shown here is a rendering of what the Volvo XC 30 might eventually look like. Starting off as a 3-door and possibly moving to a 5-door, this compact crossover shows us that the days of those big, heavy SUVs - along with their ridiculous gas mileage - just might be a thing of the past.
Volvo today announced prices for the 2010 XC60 SUV. Prices will start at just $39,000 for the XC60 T6 model, from $42,400 for a standard XC60 and for the R-Design package customers will have to pay an extra $3,900.
The 2010 XC60 is powered by a 281-hp turbocharged six-cylinder engine and comes with leather interior, 18-inch wheels, numerous airbags, Bluetooth, and all-wheel-drive system, a revised suspension, 20-inch five-spoke wheels, color matched body trim, sports seats, and a unique “metallic-themed” interior.
Customers will have the possibility to choose from three additional packages: climate package ($1000) which includes heated front and rear seats, heated windshield washer nozzles, and rain sensing wipers; the multimedia package ($2700) with a premium audio system, navigation with real time traffic updates, and a rearview camera; and the technology package ($1700) that includes adaptive cruise control, collision warning with automatic braking, driver alert control, and lane departure warning.
With the up-coming launch of the much-ballyhooed second installment of the Twilight saga, ‘New Moon,’ the stars of the film are quickly ramping up promotional and marketing efforts to get people to watch the movie. Now, you might think that when we say ‘stars’, we’d be talking about Robert Pattinson and Kristin Stewart, right?
Not exactly.
In this commercial by Volvo, the Swedish car company – and also the official car for the movie – releases a trailer of sorts to promote the new movie. The only thing different about this one from the other New Moon trailers is that Volvo is promoting the movies’ ‘other stars’, in particular, the Volvo C30 and XC60.
Apparently, Volvo thinks that being associated with pale-skinned vampires would be reason enough for people to come watch the movie.
