The Volvo XC60 enters the 2011 model year with no major changes on either the exterior or the interior. What it does get is a new Pedestrian Detection with a full auto brake safety system and a new infotainment system, similar to the one found in the S60. The new Pedestrian Detection with full auto brake safety system works together to ensure that no pedestrian will get hurt due to unfortunate incident. The system uses radar and camera technology to watch for pedestrians at the front of the car. The system will alert the driver who can then act accordingly by either braking or steering clear of the pedestrian. If the driver is distracted in any way and does not brake or steer away then the auto brake system will stop the vehicle right before the vehicle hits the pedestrian. The Volvo XC60 will come powered with a choice of a four-cylinder direct-injected 1.6-liter and a 2-liter GTDi engine. Press release after the jump. Press release As of the end of November 2010, the Volvo XC60 can be specified with the new Pedestrian Detection with Full Auto Brake safety system. At the same time, the XC60 gets the new infotainment system that has been introduced in the Volvo S60 and V60. All the information is presented in a five or seven inch colour screen integrated into the upper part of the centre console. First a warning, then full braking powerPedestrian Detection with Full Auto Brake uses radar and camera technology to watch out for pedestrians in front of the car. The main purpose of the initial warning is to alert the driver so he or she can brake or steer out of the way. If the driver does not respond to the warning, the car automatically brakes with full force moments before the collision becomes unavoidable. With automatic braking, collisions can in certain circumstances be avoided at speeds of up to 35 km/h. Can also avoid rear-end impactsThe collision warning system is also programmed to react if the vehicle in front is at a standstill or is moving in the same direction as one’s own car. In certain situations, a collision may be avoided if the speed difference between the two vehicles is below 35 km/h. The technology is active in all speeds. Same infotainment system as the S60 and V60The Volvo XC60 is also being upgraded with an entirely new infotainment system where information from the audio system, navigation unit, mobile phone and other functions is presented in a five-inch or seven-inch colour screen in the upper part of the centre console. This screen is positioned high up in the driver’s field of vision to make it easy to keep his or her eyes safely on the road. Two-litre GTDi engines in several modelsThe new four-cylinder direct-injected 1.6-litre and 2-litre GTDi engines are now becoming available in a wide range of Volvo models. The new GTDi (Gasoline Turbocharged Direct Injection) T5 engine has a displacement of two litres and produces no less than 240 hp. Torque is a healthy 320 Nm. The T5 engine in combination with Volvo’s automatic six-speed Powershift transmission becomes available in the Volvo S80, V70, XC60, S60 and V60 models. Powershift works in principle like two parallel manual gearboxes with separate clutches, resulting in lightning-swift and fuel-saving gear changes. Two new 1.6-litre GTDi enginesTwo versions of a new 1.6-litre GTDi engine are also being introduced: the T4 with 180 horsepower and the T3 which produces 150 horsepower. Torque in both versions is 240 Nm, and both engines offer excellent pulling power throughout the speed range. The torque curve is relatively gentle, which promotes a particularly comfortable driving experience. 27 comments: Volvo XC60 Yeah! It is indeed a good decision for not changing the exterior and the interior. It is already best on it.
The radar that they add on this Volvo is such a great idea, even though there’s nothing changed on the exterior and interior design it still quite impressive for me. I like the simplicity of this Volvo.
The Pedestrian Warning system is certa8inly a nice add on. Considering how often accidents involving pedestrians ha0ppen, this would come in handy in trying to prevent that.
2011 Volvo XC 60 is a compact luxury Crossover model available with four trim levels which include Volvo XC 60 3.2, Volvo XC 60 3.2 R Design and Volvo XC 60 T6 R Design.
The Volvo has its own radar and systems that makes the driver alert and has its own smart ways while driving. Its gives a new way of practicing the best drive ever made by a traveler.
