Heico Sportiv and Pirelli started a close cooperation back in 2009 and this year, as a celebration of Pirelli’s centenary, the tuner created a special-edition Volvo V40 Pirelli. The car not only received updates to the exterior and interior, but also an extra 50 horsepower under the hood.
The V40 is a car that gets little attention, but somehow Heico Sportiv managed to completely change its look, making it more appealing and sportier. This doesn’t mean the tuner made tons of updates; instead, it opted to keep the exterior and interior updates to a minimum and updated only the essential parts of the V40.
The package seen here has been built on the V40 with a 1.6-liter engine, but according to the tuner, it can be applied to any model in the lineup.

The exterior is more aggressive than ever, as it received a two-part front spoiler and diffuser-look rear skirt. Both the front spoiler and the rear skirt are made in polyurethane plastic (PUR-R-RIM) and help make the car look more stylish and improve the aerodynamics of the V40.
The rear skirt also hides the left and right oval tailpipes of the quad-outlet exhaust system. The stainless steel tailpipes measure 120-by-74 mm (4.72-by-2.91 inches) in diameter on the inside and are painted in a combination of black chrome and high-sheen chrome plating.
The V40 Pirelli is painted in black combined with a red decorative strip.
For the interior, the tuner also opted for black trim combined with red stitching. As new features, the V40 Pirelli received a sport steering wheel, gear shift and hand brake handle; a piano-black speedometer casing and floating central console; and elegant velour floor mats with embossed tire-tread profiles.
In the standard version, the 1.6-liter turbo engine delivers a total of 150 horsepower and 177 pound-feet of torque. Heico however, managed to increase the output to a total of 200 horsepower and 221 pound-feet of torque.
With these updated the V40 Pirelli will sprint from 0 to 60 mph in just 7.9 seconds (down from 8.1 seconds) and up to a top speed of 142 mph (up from 130 mph).
Suspensions and brakes
Because this is a "Pirelli" edition it comes equipped with a new set of 19-inch wheels wrapped in 235/35R19 Pirelli P Zeros tires.
The tuner is also offering a new suspension system that will lower the car’s ride by 30 mm (1.18 inches).
Prices for the Volvo V40 "Pirelli" by Heico Sportiv will be announced at a later date.
If you ask us, the Audi A3 is definitely our first choice in sport hatchbacks. It features that elegant Audi look, can be further customized and, of course, in its standard garb is a little bit more powerful than the V40.
Still, thanks to the updates offered by Heico Sportiv, the V40 is a bit more powerful than the top version A3, which gets a 1.8-liter TFSI that delivers a total of 180 horsepower. Even though it comes up short in power, the A3 is still a little bit faster, as it sprints from 0 to 60 mph in 7.3 seconds and up to a top speed of 144 mph.

The BMW 1-Series can be the perfect alternative for those looking for a luxury hatchback; still it has never been on the top list of our favorite models.
Customers interested can choose between two four-cylinder gasoline engines and three four-cylinder diesel units. The most powerful version is the 120d, which gets a 2.0-liter engine with an output of 184 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque. This version can sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 7.2 seconds and up to a top speed of 142 mph.
With these minimal updates, Heico Sportiv managed to transform the V40 into the sporty hatchback that never was. If the tuning kit comes in at a reasonable price, we expect it to be a pretty big seller.
- Looks cool
- More powerful
- Updated interior
- No prices
- Could have delivered more power
Pirelli is celebrating its jubilee and HEICO SPORTIV will be joining in in the fun. On the occasion of the “Pirelli Family Day & Open Day”, HEICO SPORTIV will be presenting a special edition based on the Volvo V40. The exclusive vehicle and new Volvo V40 racer will be on display Whit-son Monday, 20 May 2013 from 10.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. on the factory premises in Breuberg.
German Volvo tuner HEICO SPORTIV and Italian tire manufacturer Pirelli have enjoyed a close business relationship since 2009. The cooperation, which initially started only as a partnership in motorsports, was soon extended to cover other areas too.
Today, Pirelli is one of HEICO SPORTIV’s key technology partners: especially in day-to-day business involving the tuning of Volvo road vehicles and assembly of complete wheel sets, the Weiterstadt-based specialists rely to a great extent on Pirelli tires.
What better reason than this momentous anniversary – 50 years of Pirelli in Germany and 110 years of tireworks in Breuberg – to celebrate the successful partnership with a special model? The special edition, based on the Volvo V40 T3, convinces with outstanding performance, unbeatable product quality and excellent handling.
Extensive modifications from the HEICO SPORTIV program
The alterations include a 37 kW power enhancement for the 1.6 liter turbo engine, from 110 kW (150 hp) to 147 kW (200 hp). The awe-inspiring power punch is delivered by a second, equivalent engine control unit that goes under the name of e.motion®. An additional torque boost, from 240 Nm to 300 Nm, propels the Volvo V40 T3 to 100 km/h in just 7.9 seconds (compared to 8.8 seconds for the series-produced model). And for the first time: the new HEICO SPORTIV speedpack enables a higher top speed before the series-delivered speed throttle kicks in – in this case, at 230 km/h rather than 210 km/h. Despite these extensive alterations, the manufacturer’s guarantee remains valid, and a 60-month warranty is provided for the HEICO SPORTIV program parts from their initial registration date. And if that weren’t enough, the HEICO SPORTIV speedpack is also compatible with the full-service offering Volvo PRO, the Volvo Pro New Car Extension Guarantee and VOLVOSELEKT (country-specific).
Optimal traction thanks to Pirelli P Zero
The new 8x19” VOLUTION® VII. full wheel set provides for perfect road traction. For product developer and HEICO SPORTIV racing driver, Martin Müller, there is only one answer when it comes to tires: “For the Volvo V40, we use 235/35R19 Pirelli P Zeros. They offer the best driving dynamics for our application in dry weather, and maximum grip in wet road conditions.”
Optically, the special edition Volvo also differs considerably from the series model: not only has the vehicle been lowered 30mm, but, through changes to its characteristics curves, it is also more firmly sprung. Most noticeable, however, is the bodykit, consisting of a bi-part front spoiler and diffusor-look rear skirt.
The front spoiler accentuates the series-built spoiler lip, while simultaneously setting a falcate design feature between the main headlamp and LED daytime running light. Made of flexible, lightweight polyure-thane plastic (PUR-R-RIM), it is mounted on the original bumper. Crash tests ensure that all safety func-tions – such as the new pedestrian airbag – continue to function fully and properly.
The rear skirt, also in PUR-R-RIM, cites the form of a diffusor, faithfully embracing the left and right oval tailpipes of the quad outlet exhaust system. The insides of the 120x74 mm diameter stainless steel tail-pipes are finished in black chrome, the outsides, in high-sheen chrome plating. Finally, a red decorative strip emphasizes the bodykit and the Volvo V40’s dynamic lateral profile.
Individualization of the interior, too
Red is again a theme color in the interior, with color setting apart every seam of the sport steering wheel, gear shift and hand brake handle, and optimally harmonizing with the piano-black speedometer casing and floating central console, and the elegant velour floor mats with embossed tire-tread profiles.
The HEICO SPORTIV package for the Pirelli special edition model can be optionally combined with other engine and fitting configurations.
