Denmark's Zenvo ST1 is not the most popular or most well-known supercar of the lot, but make no mistake, the people over at Zenvo are hell-bent on changing that perception.

The Danish supercar maker is getting ready to roll out three special edition ST1 models for the North American market, called the 'ST1 50S'. Despite the ultra limited number of this model, Zenvo has made sure that they're worth every penny prospective customers will have to shell out for the chance to own one of these three hypercars.

Aesthetic changes done to the car are limited, but they still stand out from the rest of the supercars running roughshod over America's highways these days. The ST1 50S comes in three different colors - Intense Red, Crystal White, and Mediterranean Blue - with a powertrain that has been improved from the standard ST1 model. The part about the engine is pretty huge considering that the 'base' model already has a 7.0-liter supercharged V8 engine that produces 1,104 horsepower and 1,050 lb/ft of torque.

If there's any improvement on those eye-popping numbers, then how much more powerful is the ST1 50S?

UPDATE 11/07/2011: The Zenvo ST1 50S will finally arrive in the USA this month. The bad news is that it will be limited to only three units and will cost a whopping $1.8 million. Of course, that will also include a Swiss watch that alone costs $49,000. The car will be sold via U.S. distributor Emporio Motor Group.

Exterior and Interior

2010 Zenvo ST1

The Zenvo ST1 50S carries the same aggressive design language as a standard ST1, albeit with a number of aesthetic improvements to warrant its special edition designation. Among the new goodies that come with the Danish supercar include a special color scheme for each of the three available models that includes Intense Red, Crystal White, and Mediterranean Blue. Other new items that come with the limited edition supercar are a set of magnesium wheels, monogrammed seats, and a complimentary Aspen Zenvo watch that customers could find very appealing, considering that it retails for $49,000. Despite the small amount of changes done on the aesthetics of the car, Zenvo certainly makes up for it with an improved powertrain that's even more powerful than the monster found under the standard ST1's hood.

Performance

The Zenvo ST1 is powered by a 7.0-liter supercharged V8 engine that produces 1,104 horsepower and 1,050 lb/ft of torque. For the special edition ST1 50S, that number goes up to 1,250 horsepower and 1,106 lb/ft of torque, representing an improvement of 146 horsepower and 56 lb/ft of torque from the standard model. The ST1 50S is also mated with a seven-speed transmission and can hit a 0-60 mph time of under three seconds with an electronically limited top speed of 233 mph.

Pricing

The special edition Zenvo ST1 50S doesn't come cheap. Nope, far from it. For the chance to own one, you're going to need to shell out €1,252,300, which is about $1.8 million based on current exchange rates. All isn't lost, though, because each of the three available units will come with a complimentary ASPEN Zenvo watch valued at $49,000. Production will be limited to three units (one each in Intense Red, Crystal White, and Mediterranean Blue).

Competition

There are very few cars that can boast of being members of the 1,000-horsepower club. In addition to the ST1, two other European monsters can give the Danish supercar a run for its money: the Bugatti Veyron->ke1112 and the Koenigsegg Agera R.

in terms of pure unbridled power, the ST1 50S has the leg up over the Agera R and its 5.0-liter V8 twin-turbo engine with 1,115 horsepower and 885 lb/ft of torque and the Veyron and its 8.0-liter W16 that produces 1,001 horsepower. The unfortunate thing about the ST1 50S is that it's got an electronically limited top speed of 233 mph, which we think should be a lot higher if Zenvo just went balls to the wall. While it's still enough to be faster than the Veyron's 217-mph top speed, the Agera R trumps both with its 260-mph top speed.

And we haven't even talked about the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport yet. Put the Zenvo ST1 50S against the most powerful version of the Veyron and the latter's 16-cylinder engine with four enlarged turbochargers and larger intercoolers and it's not even fair anymore. The Super Sport has an output of 1,200 horsepower and a top speed of 267 mph, which by the way is the record for the fastest production car on the planet.
