Mitsubishi launched the new Lancer Ralliart in Japan today. The sedan, known as the Galant Fortis Ralliart in Japan, offers a compromise between the everyday Lancer and the rally-like Evolution X. In the past, Ralliart editions have been a slightly upgraded Lancer, but the new version is built more like a de-tuned Evo.
From the Evo’s parts bin include the 2.0-liter, 16-valve four-cylinder turbocharged engine, which will make 240 horsepower (80 less than the Evo.) The dual-clutch automated manual transmission is also lifted from the Evo, but this will be geared for better fuel economy and everyday use. To keep the rubber on the road, the Ralliart gets the four-wheel drive system from the Evo as well.
So everyone knows you’re driving more than just a Lancer, Mitsubishi gives the Ralliart distinctive exterior features, including a more aerodynamic bumper and an aluminum hood with turbocharger intakes. The package also adds a few slightly prestigious Ralliart badges to the interior and exterior.
Prices in Japan start at 2,982,000 yen (about $27,700), and a North American version should be on sale by next year.
