It’s simple marketing mix strategy. You make the impression that after the facelift the car is better and the car in not depreciating because it has more onstock value than before. Besides market analysts say by 2010 there will be an economic swing so better cars for better cash available means better business.

Certainly A5 and Q5 platforms are based on the 3.2 so Audi will surely keep it, but for smaller and newer cars I think opting the 4 cylinder 2.0 engine is the direction for low emission and lighter weight for its coming line up.

This spawning concept is not new. A lot have tried it some ended up like a fad some became a name in itself. FYI: The 599XX is a car designed for track use, based on 599 GTB. Engine’s maximum speed is increased to 9000rpm with engine rated 700 PS (690 hp/515 kW)@9000rpm. Weight is reduced by cutting the weight of the engine unit components, and use of composites and carbon-fibre body parts, carbon-fibre brake pads. A new gearbox shift strategy is introduced to cut overall gear change time to 60 ms. Aerodynamics were retuned to give more downforce (280kg @ 200km/h, 630kg @ 300km/h). The car also includes 29/67 R19 front and 31/71 R19 rear tires with 19 x 11J wheel rims at the front and 19 x 12J at the rear.

I think that it is a wrong decision to increase in price when there’s not much demand for Toyota cars. Basic economic classes should tell them that. It’s definitely a suicide. I just hope that the facelift can actually attract not just mere attention but buyers, too!
