Chrysler recalling 26,000 vehicles in the US over power steering problems

Chrysler has announced that there will be a recall of a number of 2010MY and 2011MY Chrysler and Dodge models. The cause of the recall appears to be a problem with a power steering pressure hose that has the possibility to leak fluid straight into the engine, which could then lead to a possible fire.

The vehicles affected by the recall include a number of 2010MY Chrysler 300 and Sebring, as well as the Dodge Charger, the Avenger, the Challenger, and the Journey where they are also joined by some 2011MY Ram pick-up trucks. All in all, 26,397 owners are affected by the recall in the US with another 13,000 vehicles overseas affected by the same problem.

According to Chrysler, the recall is expected to begin at the end of October where dealers will look into the problem with these cars and, if the parts are deemed to be in need of replacement, the dealerships will replace them at no cost to the car owner.

So in the event that you have any one of these models, you might want to give Chrysler a ring at 1-800-853-1403.

2010 Chrysler 300S

Going to see a film is one of the best ways to get out, and one film we saw last year comes to mind: Transformers 2. After the first film, we were expecting something incredible. Fast sports cars, gorgeous women - Megan Fox - and of course, robots transforming into things. What could be better than that?

For all the special effects and explosions, underneath it all was a film that was lacking. The humor in the film was a bit off and not to mention the script wasn’t nearly on par with the first movie. Everything that one needs to make a film great was there, but it just didn’t come together the way it should have.

For all it’s mobster looks and massive power, the 2010 Chrysler 300S suffers from the same problems that plagued the film about transforming robots. Underneath that bulging exterior is a vehicle that’s lacking in many different ways.

Official Photos Of The Chrysler 200

Ladies and gentleman, the wait is now over. For the first time, we can now see the new Chrysler 200 in all its glory. The four-door sedan draws on the 200C concept for the 2009 Detroit Auto Show and it will replace the old and mostly despised Sebring. The 200 will get all-new front and rear lighting, fascias, and new mirrors and wheels. Yet, we can’t help but think this is just a refreshed Sebring. Thankfully, the changes that were made have helped immensely.

Powering the new 200 will be either a 2.4-liter four-cylinder that can be connected four-speed or six-speed automatic, or the new 3.6-liter Pentastar V6. Chrysler has yet to release any power numbers for these motors, but we should have some details in the next few months.

The interior has also been redone. There are cabin upgrades such as a new instrument panel, redesigned seats, acoustic laminated glass for lower sound levels, and revamped HVAC outlets, although there are no full interior pictures at this time. We are hoping that the 200 continues with the current trend of well built interiors that started with the Dodge Ram and Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Chrysler drops teaser photos of 200C sedan

chrysler drops teaser photos of 200c sedan picture

The on-going tease for Chrysler’s new 200C sedan continued after the company released new – and more revealing - teaser photos of the car’s redesigned front end and its new interior.

Based on past teasers we’ve seen, the new 200C looks to have taken in the new redesigned grille that’s a little more on the rectangular shape when compared to the 200C EV Concept we saw at Detroit a while back. In addition to the revised grille, the new car takes on a number of revisions, including the hood, the mirrors, the fenders, headlights, fog lamps, and LED lights on the tail and brake lights.

In addition to that, it has also been reported that the car will come with a number of powerplants, including a 2.4-liter I4 World Gas Engine and a Pentastar 3.6-liter V6 variant.

Despite these teasers, we’ll still hold off on any judgments until we get official confirmation from Chrysler, but it does give us an idea of what to expect with the new 200C.

America’s Contribution To The Paris Motor Show

This year’s Paris Motor Show is highly important for every automaker that wants to have success selling new vehicles, or updated versions of cars that are already on the market.

The European brands, such as Mercedes, BMW, Audi, Fiat and the many others have a chance to show off some wonderful concepts and new ideas that might make there way onto the vehicles of tomorrow. Most of the brands can afford to do this, as they already have strong sales in most of the continent. Mercedes offers plenty of choice for the consumer, as does Audi, Fiat and even a few of the French companies.

America’s automakers on the other hand need a strong showing more than ever. Chrysler has had difficulty catching on in Europe, as has Chevrolet and Cadillac. Ford on the other hand is huge in the United Kingdom, but they can’t afford to let their guard down.

Fiat Could Sell Part Of Stake In Ferrari

Chrysler’s new owners, Fiat, might not be the most exciting car company in the world for most Americans. However, many don’t know that Fiat owns an 85 percent share of the most iconic exotic sports-car maker in the world, Ferrari.

If these new rumors coming from Il Corriere della Sera are true, Fiat might sell some of its share in Ferrari. Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne has just cast a huge vote of confidence in Chrysler, as he looks to sell part of Ferrari to get a large stake in the American automaker. Currently, Fiat owns 20 percent of Chrysler, and Marchionne is looking to up that to around 35 percent.

Fiat won’t sell all of Ferrari, but they will drop their stake down to 51 percent. That percentage is worth around $3.1 billion. We doubt that this drop in stake will affect Ferrari’s current lineup, but we will wait and see the effects on their future models.

A Little Drinking On The Job Proves Costly For Chrysler Employees

While Chrysler continues to struggle financially, employees have found their own way of getting over it. Outside of the plant, 15 workers have taken up drinking, and possibly even smoking pot, as a way to ease the pain. They might need to hit the bar because Chrysler has just announced that they all have been suspended indefinitely without pay.

This wasn’t just a one day occurrence either. These workers at the Jefferson North Assembly Plant have been hitting the bottles for ten days. It didn’t take long for Chrysler to identify each one of the 15 men and notify them that they had lost their jobs within 36 hours.

Although the video evidence is about as clear as a perfect summer’s day, Chrysler must still obey its protocol when releasing employees. The company also stressed that each one of their vehicles is screened for quality control and an issue like this will not affect the vehicles in any way.

Chrysler to build Jeep Wrangler Call of Duty Edition

Say what you want about the violence and gore that comes with the video game Call of Duty, but it is one of the most popular games to have come out in our generation. Actually, it’s so popular that Chrysler has even decided to jump on its bandwagon – or in this case, MPVs – after the automaker announced that they will be building, through their Jeep brand, a Call of Duty-inspired Jeep Wrangler to go in line with the upcoming release of the video game franchise’s latest bloodfest, Call of Duty: Black Ops.

The game, which is scheduled for a November 9, 2010 release, is expected to be wiped out within days of its release. That’s a good thing for Chrysler because they’d look like complete yahoos if the game flopped massively and here they are, flaunting their limited run COD-themed Jeep Wrangler. Not surprisingly, the special edition off-road vehicle – it even makes recurring appearances throughout the game - will also be released at the same time giving those COD fanatics with enough spare change to buy a special edition Jeep Wrangler first dibs on the off-roader.

2011 Chrysler Town & Country

Chrysler is in the process of unveiling a whole army of refreshed models for 2011, and one of those models is the 2011 Town&Country. This year’s Town and Country will receive many changes to the exterior, interior, and even the powertrain. The new model will go on sale in the fourth quarter of 2010.

The 2011 Town & Country will be powered by a new Pentastar V-6 engine mated to a six-speed automatic transmission, producing 283 HP and 260 lb.-ft. of torque. The interior gets a new instrument panel and instrument cluster, upgraded cloth and leather seating materials, new “soft touch” door trim and new heating and cooling control system. The pièce de résistance for all of the revised Chrysler models is the new Chrysler Brand steering wheel with integrated controls that allows the driver to operate the radio, cruise control, handsfree phone, and other vehicle functions while keeping their hands on the wheel.

The list of standard equipment will include Blind-spot Monitoring and Rear Cross Path detection, SIRIUS Backseat TV – both of which are exclusive to Chrysler Group minivans - voice command functions for radio, iPod/mp3 players, phone, navigation and information, and the SafetyTec bundle.

Press release after the jump.

2011 Chrysler 200

The Toyota Camry and the Honda Accord better watch out because the Chrysler 200 mid-size sedan has just been revealed. What used to be the Sebring has now been completely restyled and re-engineered into the Chrysler 200 and not the Nassau, as we had originally thought. It will be ready to go on sale in the fourth quarter 2010 with the Accord and the Camry as its main targets.

For 2011, the 200 sedan will be getting front and rear fascias and fenders and a grille featuring the new Chrysler brand winged badge. It will also feature a new hood, rear decklid and exterior mirrors, projector headlamps and fog lamps, LED taillamps, and an LED center high-mounted stop light. A glance to the interior of the vehicle will show a new instrument panel, bezels and gauge face, upgraded leather and cloth seats with a new design, new “soft touch” door trim panels, new “soft touch” armrests and dash, new heating and cooling outlets in the instrument panel, acoustic laminated glass for lower sound levels, and revamped HVAC outlets. Although there are no full interior pictures at this time, we are hoping that the 200 continues with the current trend of well built interiors that started with the Dodge Ram and Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Under the hood Chrysler has given customers a choice of two engines: a 2.4-liter I-4 World Gas Engine mated to either a four- or six-speed automatic transaxle, or the new 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine that delivers 283 HP and 260 lb.-ft. of torque and is mated to a six-speed automatic transaxle.
